Description

The Astoria Hotel is located oppositet he Central Railway Station in Copenhagen, It was commissioned by DSB - Danish State RAilways in 1933 and designed by Ole Falkentorp, who had started his career in the State Railways' design office before forming his own practice.

The hotel was built from 1934 to 1935 as the first luxury hotel in Copenhagen. In the Functionalist style, it retains many essentially Art Deco features, including the magnificent central stairwell and the spiral stairs on one end.The building is said to resemble and express steam locomotive in form.
