Summary

Description

Six-frame infrared mosaic of Titan's surface acquired by Cassini near closest approach for the T-101 flyby on July 10, 2017. At the time, Cassini was ~261,000 km from the moon.

This image captures Titan's polar latitudes. The north pole is located near the top center of this image. The central portion of this image is dominated by the northern polar lake district. The largest lake, Kraken Mare, is roughly the size of Earth's Caspian Sea. Several large tributary rivers are visible around the central basin of the lake. The lakes in this region are surrounded by bright terrain, which is interpreted to be evaporitic hydrocarbon deposits.

A ring of clouds, surround the pole. These clouds likely mark the location of the polar jet stream.
