DescriptionWinter on Seanna Bhraigh - geograph.org.uk - 1590417.jpg
English: Winter on Seanna Bhraigh This was the second day of a ski tour, starting soon after sunrise from a high camp below Beinn Dearg. The forecast was for deteriorating weather (and worse than the forecast had suggested when I had left home 500 miles to the south), so an alpine start ensured I was approaching my most prized target summit earlier than I would usually have been setting off, in the hope of getting back to camp before the worst of the blizzard arrived. Already the wind (from left to right in this photo) was making it difficult to progress, and by the time I reached the summit, I was being very careful indeed. With skins on skis, I was pushed uphill towards the summit cairn, always proceeding with at least one ski-pole firmly in the ground - to be blown past the cairn would have resulted in a very long fall from the cliffs to the right ! The return from this point was increasingly epic as I fought against the gale, climbing from boulder to boulder as spindrift loaded the slopes, giving a very real avalanche risk in one area. The high camp had been destroyed and my exit to the road over the summit of Beinn Dearg made this summit not only my remotest bagged Munro, but also the most costly in terms of equipment, risk and effort !
