Please correct this map - the interior of Australia was still unknown in 1800. It wasn't until 1813 that the Blue Mountains only 48km to the west of Sydney had been crossed. A pink spot should be used to indicate the colony of Sydney. Similarly New Zealand's interior was still a mystery at this time.Provocateur (talk) 02:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The united states was not in any conceivable way a colonial empire in 1800. I think a similar thing could be said about the Ottomans, but ill agree that that is open to debate. Did not the Batavic Republic share a borderline with France? Belgium did not even exist before 1830. If the map is correct, what happened to be in between? (82.134.28.194 (talk) 11:14, 4 June 2010 (UTC)) Answer: 1800 is after the early part of the early phase of the Napoleonic wars, which redrew the map of Europe a number of times. In particular, this is after the Treaty of Campo Formio was signed in 1797, adding a lot of land to France (much of which was later redistributed after Napoleon's defeat).
