That NASA caption annoyed me when I first saw it on the JPL Cassini site, because it's wrong-- Mimas is not oblate, it's prolate with a major axis pointing toward Saturn, and not only rotation but also tidal force is involved.

(Technically, its shape is probably a Roche lobe, but here that's very close to a prolate spheroid.) --Matt McIrvin 22:12, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
