The 1844 American edition of Andrew Bonar's Memoir and Remains ... followed the publication of the British edition by Oliphants Ltd. The portrait is not quite identical to the one in the British edition. The text that it accompanied read, "The Portrait is not an exact likeness: it was executed after his death from a very imperfect sketch by himself; but it will recall his form to all who knew him."
