Flipmode Records and J Records.[14] The fourth single from the album, "Pass the Courvoisier Part II", peaked at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100. It was included at the end of the album on some later pressings (on which "Ass On Your Shoulders" was removed due to playing time restrictions). The album debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 185,000 copies.[15]
It later sold one million domestic copies and certified Platinum by RIAA.

In 2018 Busta Rhymes was accused of plagiarism by Bernardo Lanzetti and his group, Acqua Fragile, because in ''Genesis'', the song that gives the title to his 2001 album, he used a sample of ''Cosmic mind affair'', taken from ''Mass Media Stars'', the group's second album, without declaring it and indeed signing it in his own name.[17] Lanzetti and the group decide to continue the cause;[18] the usage of the sample is approximately 20.09 seconds and is repeated 4 times within Genesis for a usage percentage of approximately 35% of the total duration of the song.[19] Furthermore, the name of the original producer of Cosmic mind affair, Claudio Fabi, also disappears from the rapper's album, because J Dilla is listed in this role in the credits.[20] Since after years of negotiations the situation was not resolved with recognition, Lanzetti and the band decided to take legal action[21]
