Hayashi rearrangement

The Hayashi rearrangement is the chemical reaction of ortho-benzoylbenzoic acids catalyzed by sulfuric acid or phosphorus pentoxide.[1][2]

This reaction proceeds through electrophilic

acylium ion attack with a spiro intermediate.[3][4]
