Edited to explain as requested: There is an image on a Wikipedia webpage (see below) and a wikicommons webpage (see below) which has been taken from my own website without acknowledgement or permission. I want the image to be removed, unless acknowledgemnt is made of its owner and source

The image DSCN9172.JPG featuring in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vimalnath and also http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jain_Vimalnath.jpg is mine, it was taken from my website which has on its homepage that all images and text are copyright - and this copyright belongs to me. It was taken from my weboage http://www.indianminiaturepaintings.co.uk/Jain_Vimalnath_190w.html. I will give permission for it to continue to be published on these two webpages on condition acknowledgement of its owner and source is given - i.e Peter Blohm of www.indianminiaturepaintings.co.uk. Since the image is hosted at Wikimedia Commons, the proper page to make this request would be the Wikimedia Commons help desk. However, my understanding of the position is that you have not acquired a copyright in the image, because taking the photograph did not add any creative input to the original work. Langa are people speaking Kutchi language and living in Kutch region on and near Coastal area of Kutch state of Western Gujarat,now) they are playing musical instruments same like Iran and Afghanistan.As they lived near regions of Sindhu River and Aryan areas of Pakistan, Near Afghanistan and Iran. They seems having Music system of Aryans. The Aryan loved Music and as there were many small small Kingdom established by many kings.It seems they adopted Nomadic unsettled life and settled life where they had job in Kings courts.Many preferred Public performance when they could not find court job and settlement for family. Kutch villages have atleast one house of Langa Community family who is called to Perform in marriage or festival of Hindu people or others in the village. They can be called 'Orchestra of Old time' Rajsthan,Sindh,Kutch are the places where they are settled and it seems as Aryan people came from Area of Sindhu,which starts from Mansarovar lake in Tibet and Dry Himalya desert.The musical instruments are made from animal skins and air musical instruments indicates that they where connected to Shepherd like tribes of Grassy plains.As Aryans came with Cows and Horses and considered Shepherds like tribes who became kings and developed their kingdoms near Lakes and rivers where their wealth,cattels can be kept.their wealth. Langa This shows that Langa of Kutch and Sindh and Manganiars of Rajsthan and Pakistan regions were Shepherds. Manganiars speak Rajsthani language called Marwari and Langa speaks Kutchi and Sindhi of Southern Desert area,near Arabian sea coastal area. They call themselves Hindu Rajputs converted to Islam,which shows that like Yadavas of North India( Shepherds) who are considered one branch of Aryan..seems Positive claim. Most Of the Aryan settled in places below Himalya's South where most of the rivers flowed to Arabian Sea. As they are preferring plains to protect their cattels wealth from Jungle scavengers. It is believed that Most of the Hindu Gods or Bhagvan born in Shatriyas or Rajput (who call themselves Aryan) same way most of the Prophets were born in Shepherd Communities.

Langa are musical people and most are in Kutch's southern side,in villages near Arabian sea. The ending point for most of the rivers starting from Himalya and where most of the Rajput people stayed as rulers afterward and as Shepherds of Horses,Cows etc.

Langa have many famous musical talents like Master Kasam Abdula Saraiaya of Suthri,Coastal village in Abdasa district of Kutch.Born there and died,buried in Bahuj;Kutch(Langa Community head of Kutch) who was Manager of H.M.V. Gramaphone Co.UK.in Mumbai,India. For recording of Urdu Qawalis,Sufi Songs,Gazals during 1960-70 and recorded Legendary Playback Singer Mohamad Rafi Sahab,Mahendra Kapoor, and many Qawals like Yususf azad,Aziz Nazan,Ismail Azad etc. With Gujarati singer Ibrahim Bhagat,Dharamshi Raja,Hemu Gadavi etc. Any many Marathi Singers also. Langa of Kutch Mr.Suleman Jumma was awarded medal by Indian President Gyani Jailsingh for his contribution to Indian North west Folk music and his expertise in playing Nagara (Two 1 feet dia. Drums like bowls and kept in expanded 'V' shape and played with 2 bit curved round sticks) which are been played at the entrance of Royal court with another playing Wind instrument called Sahenai or Flute.

Mami Anjarwala (Famous Sahenai Player) a blind musician,Ramju bhai Narainsarovarwala,Iqbal Abdula Sariya are famous Punjabi Drum players. Abdula Saraiya of Suthri village was famous Tabla player in H.M.V.

Named reference

I'm editing a small article that needs better citations. A reference cited early in the article ought to be cited again later on. It was not originally given a "ref name" so I tried to add <ref name="[ref name]"> at the beginning of its reference. The hope is that this would allow me to use a "Named reference" in the ref list, but now I'm getting citation error problems. I'm going back to copy/paste the whole reference, but I'd like to know how add ref names to existing references from time to time if possible -- and can't find instructions about updating existing references such as I describe.

Neeever mind, I figured it out. (wheee!) FYI: <ref name= ...> begins a reference the same as <ref> except the reference name is added, I misread the coding thought I needed both <ref name ...> and <ref>, I didn't. GeeBee60 (talk) 03:58, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Comments

I would like to assert that the Wikipedia policy on reliable sources is not viable for certain types of content. One example of many is the field of open-source software.

In many cases, the source of authority for an open-source project will be the author/creator of the software. That author, and also avid supporters, will not have any published work that falls into the categories of " ...university textbooks, books published by respected publishing houses, magazines, journals, and mainstream newspapers..." Many examples abound, one that just popped into my mind after I decided to post this, is the Classic Shell project. [[1]].

I just reviewed the Classic Shell Wikipedia page, and it has not a single reference to " ...university textbooks, books published by respected publishing houses, magazines, journals, and mainstream newspapers..." Yet, it is a very accurate and complete Wikipedia page. Must we wait for some university-Prof to write a scholarly paper on Classic Shell (a paper that will be outdated the moment it is published) to satisfy Wikipedia?

Wikipedia needs to wake up and realize that as we move toward the middle of the 21st century, a 20th century definition of "Reliable Source" is not going to serve us well for all fields of study. $tephen T. Crye (talk) 22:45, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

  • I would stress that a reliable source does not have to be university texts, books from respected publishers, and so forth; those are merely examples of the types of sources that are usually the best. As long as you've got a source that fair, generally-educated readers would largely consider authoritative, you are usually okay. Scholarly essays, highly-established newspapers and such are again just examples of the sources that usually best fit these criteria. NTox · talk<l 18:52, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
