James C. Smith (born 1959) is an American business executive.

Career
Early in his career Smith worked as a journalist
After the company sold its newspaper business in 2000, Smith moved to the
Thomson Reuters COO and CEO
After the formation of Thomson Reuters in April 2008,[7] Smith was named president and CEO of the combined company's professional division,[9][7][6] which sells tax, legal, and accounting products.[1][4] Smith was then made COO of Thomson Reuters Corporation[5][6][4] in late September 2011[7][12] as "part of a move by the company to overhaul the structure of the group."[4] On January 1, 2012, Smith became CEO[8][4][9][13] and president of Thomson Reuters. Smith was succeeded by Steve Hasker as Thomson Reuters' President and CEO in February 2020.[14]

Personal life
He lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada[16][17] with his wife Pam Kushmerick.[10] He has four sons.[10][18]
He was inducted into the Marshall University College of Business Hall of Fame in 2014,[3] and he delivered the keynote address for Marshall University's commencement ceremony in 2017.[10]
