Lecanoromycetes is the largest class of
fungi.[1] It belongs to the subphylum Pezizomycotina in the phylum Ascomycota.[2] The asci (spore-bearing cells) of the Lecanoromycetes most often release spores by rostrate dehiscence.[1]
They are
monophyletic (a group of taxa composed only of all the descendants of a common ancestor).[3]
