MENA. Egypt situated on both North Africa and West Asia, connects the African continent to Eurasia via the Sinai Peninsula. Within Sinai, the Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. The canal is the most important route between Europe and Asia. Egypt, historically, has been a northern Asian "Gateway to Africa" with many scientific expeditions
organized from Cairo.
