Extinct Species:
- Bermuda saw-whet owl, described from fossil records and explorer accounts of the bird in the 17th century.[1]
- Laughing owl, last seen in 1914.[2]
- Mauritius scops owl, last seen 1837 and certainly extinct by 1859.[3]
- Réunion scops owl, went extinct in the 17th century after the colonization of the island of Réunion.[4]
- Rodrigues scops owl, last recorded in 1726.[5]
