Margaret Dauler Wilson (29 January 1939 – 27 August 1998)[1] was an American philosopher and a professor of philosophy at Princeton University between 1970 and 1998.[2]

In 1970, Wilson became the first female member of faculty in the philosophy department at Princeton
Wilson taught courses in
Margaret Wilson has been described as "the most eminent English-language historian of early modern philosophy of her generation"
Active in professional organizations, Wilson served as vice-president of the Eastern Division of the
Wilson died at the age of 59 on August 27, 1998.[11]
Since 2002, the Margaret Dauler Wilson Biennial Philosophy Conference has been held in her honor [12] and in 2016, the Department of Philosophy at Princeton University began an occasional series of lectures in her name.[2] The inaugural lecture was given by Christia Mercer,[13] one of several of Wilson's former students who themselves went on to become prominent philosophers, others include Janet Broughton, Lisa J. Downing, Rae Langton, and Eileen O'Neill.[14][15]

Eileen's main interests were in 17th Century metaphysics, specifically causation, and the history of women philosophers of that period. Her 1983 Princeton dissertation on Descartes, Mind and Mechanism, still widely cited, was written under Margaret Wilson.
