Following the election of

Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development, and Territorial Development. It is now known as the Ministry of the Environment, Energy, and the Sea.[citation needed
]

The post has a subordinate role within the department, with a junior minister attending Cabinet meetings as roughly equivalent to a Minister of State in Commonwealth countries.{{needs citation|date=April 2023} The post has changed names many times; as of May 2016, for example, Alain Vidalies was Secretary of State for Transport, the Sea, and Fisheries (Secrétaire d’État chargé des Transports, de la Mer et de la Pêche).[2]
