The ministry plays a pivotal role in maintaining stability, ensuring public safety, and executing government policies.[1][2][3]

The Direction Générale de Migration (DGM "Direction General of Migration"), a department of the Ministry of the Interior and Security, has its main office located in Gombe, Kinshasa.[4]

Missions

The Ministry of the Interior and Security shoulders a diverse range of critical responsibilities aimed at safeguarding the nation's stability, security, and well-being:

Coordinating government relations and political parties

The Ministry of the Interior and Security assumes the crucial role of fostering collaboration between members of the central government and provincial governors.[5] This coordination ensures effective governance and a cohesive national vision. Furthermore, the ministry oversees the organization, operation, and approval of political parties and groups, laying the foundation for a democratic and inclusive political landscape.[5]

Population management and surveillance

The ministry monitors population movements and provides a safe haven for refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).[5]

Election preparation and disaster management

The Ministry of the Interior and Security collaborates closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission, to prepare and execute elections, ensuring that the democratic process is upheld and the will of the people is respected. Moreover, the ministry assumes a pivotal role in coordinating the management of natural disasters, working hand in hand with relevant ministries to mitigate the impact of catastrophes.[5]

Ensuring public order and security

The ministry is responsible for maintaining public order and security, protecting individuals and their property. They oversee national security policies and formulate and execute strategies to safeguard the nation's interests.[5]

Law enforcement and counter-terrorism

The Ministry of the Interior and Security exercises hierarchical power over the National Police and security services, enabling effective law enforcement and protection of citizens. In tandem, it implements a comprehensive counter-terrorism policy to combat threats to national security, thus ensuring a secure environment for all.[5]

Border surveillance and beyond

The ministry's responsibilities transcend domestic borders, encompassing border surveillance and management of foreigners within the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This approach ensures that the nation's boundaries are secure and immigration policies are administered judiciously.[5]
