His father, Ernest Walter Jones, was a
Anglo-Indian woman, daughter of a Postmaster of Madras
.
Noel Jones came to live in England, where he married Jean Rosemary Cheval.
He entered the diplomatic service and was appointed British ambassador to Kazakhstan in 1993.[1] His career was cut short by his death in 1995, at the age of 54. He was survived by his widow, Jean, and his children Mark and Alison.
