Patrick Frank Surtain Sr. (/sərˈtæn/ sər-TANN;[citation needed] born June 19, 1976[1]) is an American former professional football player who was a cornerback for 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. He was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 1998 NFL draft, and also played for the Kansas City Chiefs. In January 2023, he was hired as the defensive backs coach at Florida State University.

Kansas City Chiefs
In April 2005, the Dolphins traded Surtain to the Kansas City Chiefs for a second round pick in the 2005 NFL draft. After the trade the Chiefs re-signed him to a seven-year $50.8 million deal.[8]
Surtain was released by the Chiefs on February 24, 2009. He finished his career with the team with 192 tackles, one sack, and eight interceptions in 55 games.[9]

Surtain was hired as the defensive backs coach for the Florida State Seminoles on January 10, 2023.[11][12]
