Biography

Born in

Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam[4]
in 1980 with a thesis entitled "Multiple objective decision methods and regional planning."

Rietveld had started his academic career at the

Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.[4] Rietveld was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2011.[5] He was a member of Academia Europaea.[6]

Work

Rietveld's research was focussed on transport and regional development; valuing the quality of transport services; the economics of public transport; modelling land use; and methods for policy analysis. Rietveld regularly appeared in the media.[7][8]
