Fanny, Countess of Reventlow

Fanny Gräfin zu Reventlow (real name: Fanny Liena Wilhelmine Sophie Auguste Adrienne Gräfin zu Reventlow, 18 May 1871 - 26 July 1918), was a German writer, artist and translator, who became famous as the "Scandal Countess" or "Bohemian Countess of Schwabing" (an entertainment district in Munich) in the years leading up to the First World War.

Fanny zu Reventlow was born in Husum Castle on 18 May 1871 as the fifth of six children of the Prussian aristocrat, Ludwig Count of Reventlow (1825–1894) and his wife, Emilie, née Countess of Rantzau (1834-1905); her brother, Ernst, was later also an author, but was politically active too. The family was friendly with the writer, Theodor Storm, and the family of the subsequent co-founder of sociology in Germany, Ferdinand Tönnie. ...more...
