Thank you for being there! I listened (on radio) to the charity concert mentioned here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:35, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Now, you can also listen on YouTube, and more music, the piece by Anna Korsun begins after about one hour, and the voices call "Freiheit!" (freedom, instead of "Freude", joy). Music every day, pictured in songs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:34, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Gerda. I'm somewhat overwhelmed with life at the moment, and have taken an hour or so out of it to just do stuff I enjoy here, like review lists etc. Appreciate your notes. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:36, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for The Boat Race 2022

On 3 April 2022, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article The Boat Race 2022, which you created and updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 23:16, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks- I thought you would likely be the one to improve this article, as you seem to be The Boat Race expert on here. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:34, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What? Oh no!

Don't leave us TRM, you're one of the best content creators and guardians of quality on the main page that the project has ever had.

Now, the reason I came here (and any talk page stalker can answer this if they know) ... is there (or should there be) a board for "On this day?" in the same manner as DYK and ITN? The guide says to use the talk page of the relevant anniversary page, but how many people read or watch that. I think a centralised noticeboard would be better. Specifically, I was thinking of putting

been bold and just done the change. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:35, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply

Hi Ritchie333, thanks for your note and generous words. I have quite a lot going on in real life, combined with certain users who here are so toxic that they have reduced my interest for moment. Still around, albeit more in the background.
As far as the OTD thing goes, I've been worried about the whole thing for a few years now. It seems that all roads lead to
Howcheng who, at some point, might lose interest, get ill, leave etc, and then we're going to be a little bit stuck. I do think a centralised area for discussions and suggestions for OTD topics is a good idea, although I would hate for it to descend into a mini-ITNC and become overwhelmed in bureaucracy/democracy/supervoting.... It works okay right now because it's pretty much an autocracy with Howcheng who knows their stuff inside out, like which articles have been over-featured etc, but we should succession plan and, for people like you who I know suggest some more popular culture articles in there, we need a more open and transparent way of discussing those suggestions too. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 15:54, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply
]
I've popped in a couple of popular culture references that I think are suitable and have articles that are in reasonable shape. Man oh man, some of the potential candidates I looked at are in terrible shape, particularly musicians and albums. It does seem sometimes that the best way to get an article improved is for the subject to die :-(
Anyway, would be good to get Howcheng's view on this, but if he thinks a central area would help, then perhaps we should just go for it. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:13, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to see you go. You're one of the few people around here that, when an article needs to be improved, you not only improve it but also go above and beyond. Hope all of your concerns are soon abated, whether it be IRL or on the Internet. WaltCip-(talk) 20:28, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you WaltCip, I appreciate your note. Real life is challenging right now, so that's limiting my time. The "established users" here who have directly and in some cases actively contributed to my malaise and worsening mental health are still around so sadly I'll be just working on the periphery. I'll be around, just not as much. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:33, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You are a valuable contributor here TRM. Your own health and well being are of utmost importantance and I wish you well no matter what direction you take editing wise. Best regards and cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 21:35, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@TRM: Even when you rub people the wrong way I've always known you've had the project's best interests at heart, which is more than I can say for a lot of other editors. Hopefully you'll find the motivation to return to your previous level of editing in the future.

International goals

Hello, I'm new to Wikipedia and I have a question regarding Lists of international goals. I've been working on a revamp of List of international goals scored by Pelé in my sandbox, but I am not quite certain what to do with the Non-full International appearances tables. I haven't seen them on any other list and after checking who created most of the featured lists in this area, you seem to be the "expert" on them. I simply wanted to ask what your position on them is and if I should put them into the "new" list. Greetings, 11plus (talk) 14:57, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 11plus, thanks for the note. I guess the reason "non-full internationals" aren't listed on other such articles is because no-one has quite the same record as Pele! I would be tempted to initially include them as separate tables (with referenced explanations as to why they're considered notable mind you...) and see if the community thinks they belong there. It's probably a "consensus-required issue" here because I think you're talking about new territory. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 19:58, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, this could already be nominated for FA, but it's already nominated for GA. I've read the FA criteria and it seems to my eyes that they're respected. Its only issue could be that it has so many sources which aren't of high quality. What do you think about?

today's featured article for 14 May 2022. Please check that the article needs no amendments. The

1987 FA Cup Final was an association football match between Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur on 16 May 1987 at Wembley Stadium in London to determine the winner of the 1986–87 FA Cup. Neil Midgley refereed the match in front of a crowd of 96,000. Two minutes after kick-off, Tottenham took the lead with a headed goal by Clive Allen. The scores were level seven minutes later when Dave Bennett scored for Coventry. Five minutes before half-time a free kick was touched on by Gary Mabbutt to again give Tottenham the lead. Keith Houchen equalised for Coventry with a diving header, the only goal of the second half; this was later selected as the BBC Goal of the Season. During extra time a cross from a Coventry player looped off the left knee of Tottenham's Gary Mabbutt for an own goal resulting in a final score of 3–2 to Coventry. BBC commentator John Motson
called the match "the finest Cup Final I've had the pleasure of commentating on".

Thank you today for the article, i collaboration, introduced: "Possibly the most entertaining FA Cup final ever. Two teams going at each other pretty much from minute 1 to minute 120, and trust me, plenty of the tackles would have been yellow, if not red cards these days! Your comments about mass shootings in the US

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi TRM. I'm here to ask you to cool it with your comments about mass shootings in the US. I agree with your points, but you've made them very, very often--in fact, it seems like you make them literally every opportunity you get; not only every time a mass shooting proposal is made, but also in the current discussion at WT:ITN about civility (which is ironic), where your comments are completely off-topic. I've already hatted them, but you reverted me. You already know that your comments upset a number of our colleagues; I'm not sure why you persist. (Don't you care about not upsetting your colleagues? Don't you realize some of the people you're talking to may have lost loved ones in a mass shooting in the US?) But more to the point, your comments derail conversations, such as the one going on at WT:ITN -- where, again, we agree -- and make it difficult or impossible for people to have a productive discussion. I'm sure your comments are scaring off at least some editors from even participating in these discussions. Please stop; it's

hat}} (if you want to adjust its placement to include other things you think are off-topic, that's fine with me). Thanks for reading, Levivich 17:11, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply
]

Thanks, but no I won't stop commenting against the posting of the regular slaughter of children in America. It's commonplace and not newsworthy. You need to hat whole conversations, not just elements of those which you personally find to be "scaring" people. We're here to build an encyclopedia, not wring our hands and hope and pray for better things to come. Thanks for your comment though, appreciate the thoughtfulness. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:12, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And no, I can't very well hat comments in conversations with which I disagree but in which I've participated can I? That would be absurd. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:12, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But you can un-hat them? Levivich 17:14, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, censoring just one aspect of a conversation is patently absurd, so leaving it for all to see is the only way forward. If you want to do it properly, cap the whole thing, or leave it alone. I don't think I need to explain
WP:CIR but if I really have to, let me know. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:16, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply
]
It really makes no sense that you think your participation prevents you from hatting, but doesn't prevent you from unhatting. What is "the whole thing" in your view? Because I only hatted those comments that I felt were off-topic. (The ones above the hat were directly on topic.) So what other comments are off-topic in your view? Levivich 17:17, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, perhaps I should link
WP:INVOLVED? I'm not clear what you don't understand here. Your objection seems to be about my personal comments on mass shootings in the US but on no-one else's comments on mass shootings in the US, so you hatted a couple of my comments but nothing else. How bizarre. Just leave it alone if I were you. Or wrap the whole thing up. But don't cherry pick the things you personally dislike to censor. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:20, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply
]
WP:INVOLVED
applies to admins, which neither of us are. But even if we're talking about the spirit of involved, if involved prevents you from taking an action, it would also prevent you from undoing that same action when someone else takes it. If you're too "involved" to hat, then you're too "involved" to unhat. (I don't believe either of us are too "involved" to hat or unhat, nor do I believe that "involved" even applies to hatting, as it's not an admin action.) If you want to describe things that I think are off-topic as things I "personally dislike", and you want to describe hatting as censoring, then yeah, people are going to hat things that they personally dislike if they think they're off-topic. I mean, what else would anyone ever hat, other than things they think should be hatted?
Anyway, you're the one who said If you want to do it properly, cap the whole thing, or leave it alone. What is "the whole thing"? Levivich 17:25, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'm sure you know that means any discussion on mass shootings which presumably you find off-topic here. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:26, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will hat "the whole thing", meaning "any discussion on mass shootings which I find off-topic here". Sound good? Levivich 17:27, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well presumably that comprises the comments from me you found personally objectionable and nothing else, once again. This is a pointless conversation. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:28, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's correct. Per your suggestion, I've reinstated the hat of any discussion on mass shootings that I find off-topic. Cheers, Levivich 17:36, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing. Hope it empowers you. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And FWIW, I don't object to any other comments there. I've never said I have. Talk about non-sequiturs. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 17:22, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TRM - hope this finds you well. Would you be up for nominating Steve Davis again when we both have a slot free? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:53, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) not to put too much of a dampener on this, but I did oppose the last Davis FAC because I felt there wasn't enough prose relative to his stature and longevity, comparing to for example Milos Raonic and Mark Selby. It doesn't look like the article has been added to very significantly since last year, so I would probably be liable to renew my opposition unfortunately. Perhaps you plan a big expansion though, in which case happy to look again. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 14:33, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Selby was also on my list alongside Rodney Baggins, although I can't see much in terms of a career summary there. I could add something similar to the tennis "rivalries and contemporaries" here, although pure head-to-head results isn't all that helpful, and pure stats like in that article aren't something you'll find for snooker. Maybe it just needs a little expansion of "Legacy". Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:47, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
  • Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.

Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on

Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hey TRM, I hope you're doing alright. I was wondering whether you could add just a few comments to the Musk peer review. If you don't have the time/energy, no worries. Best, ~ HAL333 17:53, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

HAL333 hi there, just about okay thanks, despite some overtly pointed pings from Americans deliberately trying to harass me! I'll certainly do my best to take a look at the PR you linked, it's of interest to me so it should be a pleasure. Might take me a few days, but I'll do my best. Cheers. About nukes

Had a tactical nuke been fired by either the U.S. or Russia during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the planned response by either country would have been to engage in the use of strategic nuclear weapons in a rush to prevent the other side from launching a first strike on either country's homeland. I suspect that if a tactical nuke were used during the Russo-Ukraine War that it would similarly prompt a nuclear exchange, if not from the United States then from other nearby European powers that possess strategic nuclear capability. Of course, since a nuke hasn't been used since the 1940s, I don't have much of a precedence to build upon for this theorem... 🌈WaltCip-(talk) 23:12, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, we're not in the 1960s now. Tactical nukes exist for a reason, and mostly it's so they don't start the end of the world. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 23:20, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2022 September newsletter

The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.

At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!

WikiCup 2022 November newsletter

The 2022 WikiCup has drawn to a close with the final round going down to the wire. The 2022 champion is

  • England Lee Vilenski (1752 points), who won in 2020 and was runner up in both 2019 and last year. In the final round he achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on cue sports. He was closely followed by
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132 (1732), who specialised in "In the news" items and DYKs, and who has reached the final round of the Cup for the past three years. Next was
  • Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose (1238), another cue sports enthusiast, also interested in songs, followed by
  • New York City Muboshgu (1082), an "In the news" contributor, a seasoned contestant who first took part in the Cup ten years ago. Other finalists were
  • Sammi Brie (930), who scored with a featured article, good articles and DYKs on TV and radio stations,
  • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh (370), who created various articles on famous Americans, including an FA on Louis H. Bean, famed for his prediction of election outcomes. Next was
  • Chicago PCN02WPS (292), who scored with good articles and DYKs on sporting and other topics and
  • Toronto Z1720 (25) who had DYKs on various topics including historic Canadians.

During the WikiCup, contestants achieved 37 featured articles, 349 good articles, 360 featured article reviews, 683 good article reviews and 480 In the news items, so Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors. Well done everyone! All those who reached the final round will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or the overall leader in this field.

  • England Lee Vilenski wins the featured article prize, for a total of 6 FAs during the course of the competition and 3 in the final round.
  • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh wins the featured list prize, for 3 FLs in round 2.
  • Adam Cuerden wins the featured picture prize, for 39 FPs during the competition.
  • Toronto Z1720 wins the featured article reviewer prize, for 35 FARs in round 4.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius wins the good article prize, for 32 GAs in round 1.
  • SounderBruce wins the featured topic prize, for 4 FT articles in round 1.
  • England Lee Vilenski wins the good topic prize, for 34 GT articles in round 5.
  • Sammi Brie wins the good article reviewer prize, for 71 GARs overall.
  • Sammi Brie wins the Did you know prize, for 30 DYKs in round 3 and 106 overall.
  • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132 wins the In the news prize, for 106 ITNs in round 5 and 289 overall.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January and possible changes to the rules and scoring are being discussed on the discussion page. You are invited to sign up to take part in the contest; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to have a good turnout for the 2023 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners and finalists, and thank all participants for their involvement! Howdy, it has been a while. I was hoping, when you have a moment, if I could get your advice on making sure lists sort correctly. I tried to enact the suggestions you provided previously at a FLC, and I just want to make sure we are on the same page, and I got it right. the two articles updated: List of commanders of the British 1st Division and List of commanders of the British 4th Division.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 17:47, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking a look at that for me. I have just updated the 4th Div article, based off how I coded the 1st Div one. I think I have fixed the issue. If you would be so kind to take a second look?EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 23:32, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

my daily stories

Thank you today for

UEFA Euro 2020 Final, introduced (in 2021): "This article is about the final of Euro 2020, the football tournament which took place a few months ago (even though it's 2021!). As someone from England, this was a tough one to write about - it was first major final that the team have reached in my lifetime, and with England holding the lead into the second half it looked for while like it might be our year. It wasn't to be though, the curse of the penalty shootout struck again! Italy were a great team though, and played really well throughout the tournament, so that's the way it goes."! - Thank you also for "Do what matters to you". Without having seen it, I did, I'm out of DYK and write my own stories. - Enjoy your vacation, - I did. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:18, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply

The Boat Race 2023 and TFA

I was thinking of nominating one of the articles about The Boat Race on the day of the 2023 edition, which takes place on March 23. Do you have a preference for which article is featured on that day? Some options might be The Boat Race 2022 (last year's edition) and The Boat Race 2003 (the 20th anniversary). I look forward to your thoughts. Z1720 (talk) 23:36, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I like the 2003 edition as it has more about it. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 23:39, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I might have gotten the dates mixed up, and it looks like The Boat Race is on March 26 this year. Since there is already a TFA request, I'll hold off this nomination and see what happens next year. Z1720 (talk) 02:45, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this succeeds, not looking forward to having the same arguments about significance every year...-- Pawnkingthree (talk) 21:03, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not to worry, I won't be around to argue to get it back included if it gets dropped. Amazing to see how many arseholes have suddenly re-appeared just because it's a TRM thing. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 23:16, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and it looks like a "revenge strike" pathetic attempt from the OP. Just desperation because nobody wanted their particular item at ITNR. So the usual childlike response is to seek out some revenge, and here we are. Oh well. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 00:11, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, I had no idea that you were the one writing these articles. And to continue with the honesty, I dont really care either, TRM being the author or primary booster of TBR on ITN is not something I care about either way at all. I get that some people are opposing because of you, but that also seems balanced by the people supporting because of you. I can respond to the rest of the comment about childlike responses, but meh dont really think youre that interested in what I actually think so I can leave your imagination intact. nableezy - 17:57, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter

So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
  • Germany FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
  • United States TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
  • Byzantine Empire Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.

The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included Berkelland LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, New England Trainsandotherthings, England Lee Vilenski, Indonesia Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, Washington (state) SounderBruce, Wales Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and Chicago PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. The Boat Race 2003 scheduled for TFA

The only free slot for April that matched a boat race was this, and it's the 20th anniversary.

This is to let you know that the

today's featured article for April 6, 2023. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page blurb, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 6, 2023, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. If you wish to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article, you can do so at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/April 2023
. I suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks aJimfbleak - talk to me? 11:30, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers Jim. A shame that SandyGeorgia has driven me off the project, otherwise we'd have another FA in the making this year for the Boat Race. Alas, no more. All the best to you. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 20:29, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
April songs
my story today
Thank you for the article, introduced (in 2014): "Hot on the heels of "a man jumping in front of two boats" and "cleavers not spoons", I humbly submit to you this meagre offering. It seemed unlikely that anything would match the excitement of the 2002 race but this race took the proverbial biscuit. Dramaz beforehand with broken oars and wrists, and the closest finish in the long history of the event. The winning margin is estimated to have been approximately five hundredths of a second over the course of an 18-minute race. That's close." - I wish you a bit more resilience ;) - I felt like leaving a few times but thought it would have given others the pleasure of having power over me. On the other hand, I have been blamed for editors leaving, and found/find that hard to take, - perhaps be kinder than doing that to others? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:33, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Nugget on tour

Hi TRM. I hope you are well! I haven't spoke to you in a while, I see there's some stuff above and I wanted to ask you about the Steve Davis article we tried to put through FAC a few years ago. I was thinking of pushing it through again, and was wondering if you'd want to be involved with the nomination or not? Happy either way.

Keep up the good work, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:45, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article 2022 EFL Championship play-off final you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:2022 EFL Championship play-off final for comments about the article, and Talk:2022 EFL Championship play-off final/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Well wishes and Boat Race thoughts

Please remove if the message is unwelcome, but I'm sorry to see you've not been active lately. I was hoping to find a detailed article on The Boat Race 2023, after seeing the unfortunate events of today for Oxford's male stroke (originally of my college). Someone has just created a stub but nobody has yet filled your boots with the painstaking work that has gone into this topic area. I hope wherever you are that you enjoyed the event today. — Bilorv (talk) 21:28, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bilorv. It has been pretty clear over the last couple of years that there are a few "super users" who totally dominate and destroy diversity while pushing their own agenda. I would have loved to have continued the roll, *every single* Boat Race article is a GA or FA (back to 1829), but no more. Some of the arrogant ex-colonials have pushed me beyond the limit. Such a shame: they've actively reduced the quality of the encyclopedia. Never mind, let's get back to mass shootings which are "so" interesting. All the best to you. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 19:18, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I'm going to be tarred and feathered as "biased" by commenting on your page, but I also wish the best for you, and I apologize that things have gotten to this point. Life is more important than Wikipedia, so be sure to continue attending to yourself first and foremost. --WaltClipper -(talk) 20:49, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
+1. This whole thing is a real shame, it really is. Pawnkingthree (talk) 22:56, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate both of your comments here. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 23:02, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is still worthwhile continuing the annual article series, and improving The Boat Race article. Whizz40 (talk) 08:38, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of tea for you!

Cheer up! The work you have done on the Boat races remains awesome. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 01:41, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded, huge amount achieved, which would not have been without your leadership. Whizz40 (talk) 08:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2018 EFL League Two play-off final

Hi, The Rambling Man. I am writing this to inform you that I have nominated the 2018 EFL League Two play-off final article for TFA next month, specifically on May 28, its 5th anniversary. I have already informed Amakuru about this nomination; however, I also wanted to inform you about this as you were also one of the article's main editors. Please feel free to leave a comment on this nomination template, to show your support or express your concerns about this nomination. Thank you in advance.

A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
For bringing almost all of The Boat Race articles up to GA or FA. That's quite impressive honestly. Maybe after you tackle 2023 you could go for the main one? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 03:42, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2023 May newsletter

The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:

Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, MyCatIsAChonk, Chicago PCN02WPS, and London AirshipJungleman29.

So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
