Three and a quarter years after the end of the fifth series, this new series was confirmed by Bandai. The official name of the show was revealed in the June issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine.[1] The first Digimon to be revealed for this new series were Shoutmon, Dorurumon, Ballistamon, Shoutmon x4, Monitormon, and a new redesign of Greymon.[2] Character designs in Xros Wars are similar to the previous Digimon series (except Digimon Data Squad), including the wearing of goggles by the main character. This series is supported with a new card game, toys, and a manga series appearing in V Jump magazine.
Plot
Taiki Kudo is an upbeat boy with a desire to help those in need, although he tends to overexert himself. One day, he hears the voice of a Digimon named Shoutmon who is on the verge of death. Wanting to help him, Taiki is given a

Team Xros Heart
- Taiki Kudo (工藤 タイキ, Kudō Taiki)
- The protagonist of the series and leader of Team Xros Heart, Taiki is an upbeat 7th grade boy who helps anyone in need. He excels in all sports and has a charming personality that wins over humans and digimon alike, though he has a tendency to overexert himself and pass out. His Digimon partner is Shoutmon and is given the Xros Loader to help Shoutmon DigiXros with other Digimon.
- Akari Hinomoto (陽ノ本 アカリ, Hinomoto Akari)
- A kind and devoted sixth grade girl, who supports Taiki no matter what. She acts as Team Xros Heart's peacemaker.
- Zenjiro Tsurugi (剣 ゼンジロウ, Tsurugi Zenjirō)
- Taiki's classmate and self-proclaimed eternal rival. He is a practitioner of kendo and hates complicating matters. He is good with mechanics and occasionally performs repairs on Ballistamon. He appears to have developed a crush on Nene Amano of Team Twilight.

- Dorulumon (ドルルモン, Dorurumon)
- A strong wolf-like Digimon with drills on his body. He is the guardian of Cutemon (キュートモン, Kyūtomon), who travels with him. He first appeared to save Akari and Cutemon from a Coelamon. He forms the lower body and right shoulder of Shoutmon ×3 and Shoutmon ×4.

- A small, star-shaped Digimon with sunglasses who forms the hilt of the Star Sword and Star Axe.

- A powerful metal bird-like Digimon. It forms the metal armor of MetalGreymon. It was once DigiXrossed with a Golemon, which formed a tail hammer.
Team Twilight
- Nene Amano (天野 ネネ, Amano Nene)
- A mysterious girl with brown hair in a ponytail who leads Team Twilight. She is searching for a strong soldier for reasons unknown and uses her Monitormon to spy on Taiki and Kiriha, occasionally assisting both boys when necessary. She playfully refers to Taiki as "Red" and is very interested in him.

- A group of ninja Digimon with monitors for heads that are used by Nene to spy on the other groups.
