Wikipedia:Interface administrators
The following is a proposed Wikipedia policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. |
This page in a nutshell: Interface administrators are highly trusted users able to edit all CSS/JS/JSON pages, gadgets, and MediaWiki messages. |
Interface administrators (interface-admins) are users who can edit all
The ability to edit CSS/JS that is executed in other users' browsers is very powerful and potentially dangerous in the hands of a malicious user; interface administrators should be users who are highly trusted, have at least a basic understanding of CSS and JS, are aware of the privacy expectations of Wikimedia wikis, and have a decent understanding of how to secure their account (choosing strong and unique passwords, avoiding malware infection, and preferably using two-factor authentication).
There are currently 9 interface administrators.
Process for requesting
Note: At the moment, we are using a stopgap method for granting interface administrator rights temporarily (60 days): Wikipedia talk:Interface administrators#Additional temporary access requests. Below is a proposed permanent policy.

- Please outline, without breaching your personal privacy, any off-wiki experience or technical expertise you may have for this role.
Requests will be open for one week, during which any editor may comment on the request. Editors are encouraged to comment on the requester's level of trust and technical ability. An uninvolved
