Bio-printing → 3D bioprinting – "Bioprinting" or "3D bioprinting" appear to be more common terms for the topic of the article than the hyphenated "bio-printing"; further "3D" distinguishes this from, for instance, printing of thin slice constructs for constructed tissue microarrays or biosurface coating operations. Steps forward

Hi everyone,

I'm a student editor for Wikipedia. I've decided to take on this article as my project for the course. My plans for the future are to edit the process section. To do this, I plan to separate the process into three different subheadings, pre-bioprinting, bio-printing. In addition, I'd like to expand on the process of bio-printing, expressing how the cells are first printed in spheroids, then as the cells grow, the spheroids combine into tissue. Hopefully, the commons has a picture I can use to help depict this process.

I plan to add a small section talking about the types of printers used in 3D bioprinting. I will give a sentence or two on each printer and what they are used for in 3D bioprinting.

In addition, I will do some reorganizing of the current sections to better fit the lay out of the article. For example, I am planning on moving the further advancements under the section Applications. I feel like this section of the article makes more sense in this section.

If time permits, I'd like to expand more on the recent developments of 3D bioprinting, such as Maxillofacial Applications in the ears, face, eyes, etc. If possible, I'd also like to expand on the recent developments of 3D bioprinting organs.

In addition, I hope to create a graph to help easily relate what each printer is effective at doing.

Later, if there is any media on the Commons, I'd like to incorporate some photos of 3D printing.

I plan to begin to edit on April 8th, 2016.

Further Improvements

Hello all,

Over the next week I plan on adding to this article. I am doing so for a college course. I noticed when reading the article that more depth could be added to the different printing types of 3D bioprinting. I plan on adding a new sub section in printers that contains information on the different extrusion methods used by extrusion-based 3D bioprinters. This information is fairly surface level knowledge when it comes to 3D bioprinting. Adding this section will allow the readers to understand more about the common extrusion methods used by extrusion-based bioprinters. Most of the "affordable" 3D bioprinters on the market use these different types of extrusion. Hopefully, anyone researching to purchase a 3D bioprinter will be able more fully understand what they are looking for.

The 3 main extrusion types I plan to add are: 1. Pneumatic 2. Piston 3. Screwed

Edits on Page

I am a student in a class that is participating in a Wiki Education Foundation supported course assignment program. I have chosen this as my selected article. I have some experience and knowledge/familiarity of bioprinting. I plan to improve this article in several ways:

  1. Include more information about printer types and differences in their functioning. Right now the most detailed portion of printing types is extrusion based.
  2. include additional graphics (if time)
  3. explain which printers use which type of bio-inks and why
  4. further explain the importance of the selection of bio inks in the "pre printing" section
  5. update more examples accurate to today's current research under the "Bioprinting approach" section
  6. Expand the "applications" page and rewrite to improve fluidity to rest of the article. Right now some things addressed in this section could be expanded upon earlier int he article.

Additional edits

I'm also a student in a Wiki Education Foundation course. Due to my graduate research involving this topic I have decided to include some additional sections to this article. My additions will consist of:

1) Adding to the lead paragraph to include my new content

2) Adding a section describing other uses of 3D bioprinting. This will include a section for printing biofilms and a section for environmental remediation.

3) Adding a section about future uses of 3D bioprinting

I will be adding these preliminary changes today but they will be edited further. The article needs some tweaking as a whole to accommodate all changes being made since its currently very absolute in its wording. LD2023 (talk) 01:30, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
