Proposed merge

I'm suggesting to merge the section on acrosome reaction from the spermatozoon article in here. - tameeria (talk) 22:57, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The acrosome reaction is very complex, and i think a separate article should be preserved. This would allow a thorough discussion of biochemical and cellular signalling events which facilitate the acrosome reaction. At the moment this article is lacking such information, but when it is added it will probably be far too large to be merged into the spermatozoon article. I've now edited the spermatozoon article to include information about full sperm activation rather than just the acrosomal reaction, which doesnt technically include hyperactivation. I think it would be a mistake to merge acrosome reaction into spermatozoa for the reasons above, and also because it is not the whole story. Snellios (talk) 13:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

do it and be champions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.4.69.54 (talk) 16:48, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the crosome reaction article should be merged with the spermatozoon one, but rather the other way around. It definately deserves its own article, which makes this section in the spermatozoon article redundant. I also see the comments stretch back about two years, so its time that something is done here people! Sahmejil (talk) 21:05, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sections of "spermatozoon" copied to "acrosome reaction" as appropriate. Info on chemotaxis, activation and hyperactivation not moved. I think they deserve their own stub as well as a brief mention in articles that deal with the bigger picture. Sahmejil (talk) 22:51, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Other way around, merge acrosome reaction into sperm activation. 99.236.221.124 (talk) 23:46, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a proposal: 1 - Copy the section on hyperactivation to the Acrosome article as a main heading. Acrosome activation would be the other main heading. All other heading would be demoted one level. Also, the first couple paragraphs could be the new introduction, with the existing intro moved under the Acrosome activation heading. 2 - Page move Acrosome activation to Spermatozoa activation. 3 - Tag the hyper-activation as needs expansion. Later editors can expand it as needed. I'm no expert on this, so someone who know more, please comment, and let's get the damn tag off the stupid page.

Introduction not accurate

The introduction does not accurately describe the acrosome reaction - mentions cell membrane fusion occurring at the wrong time, antigens being released (which doesn't sound right) TLawsonB (talk) 11:15, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Process

"The Process" sections says, "The first stage is the penetration of corona radiata, by releasing hyaluronidase from the acrosome to digest cumulus cells surrounding the oocyte and exposing acrosin attached to the inner membrane of the sperm." Holes Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology Eleventh Edition page 538 says, "The acrosome of the sperm cell releases enzymes (including hyaluronidase) that aid penetration of the sperm head by digesting proteins in the zona pellucida..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dromine86 (talkcontribs) 05:34, 13 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
