German name

Why does German refer to this scale's name as if it were simply "B major" rather than "B-flat major"?? Georgia guy 17:26, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

From what I understand, a "B sharp" is not called a "B sharp" in German, and that's why you don't need to state that it's a "B flat." In German a "B sharp" is called "H-Dur" (B sharp), and "B-Dur" is (B flat). You can compare these by clicking on "deutsch" under "languages" on the left of your screen Repkow (talk) 17:42, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just speculating here, but maybe it's because there is more old German music in F major than in C major. Thus, there was more of a need to refer to B-flat than to B, so B-flat got first dibs on the letter.
Whatever the reason, this has been thoroughly encrusted in tradition. Dmetric 19:02, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Note that in Centural Europe, B is B-flat and H is B-natural. 47.20.0.160 (talk) 15:41, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Image links

30-May-2007: In 2006/2007, Wikipedia images required both attributes "thumb|250px" to show a caption, as in:

[[Image:MyPhoto.jpg|thumb|250px|right| My picture.]]

By itself, size "250px" ignores the caption "My picture" (confusing many people), which is considered bad form in computer languages (should warn & be corrected rather than ignore). Just remember to include "thumb" (or "frame") for a caption in an image-link.

Image hints in 2007:

  • Limit most images to "thumb|300px" to avoid crowded text-wrapping.
  • A small image followed directly by a big image often chops text.
  • To resize larger than the original ("oversizing"), omit "thumb" (oversized images cannot have captions in 2007, yet).
  • Beware "left|thumb" (for "right|"), because left-side images appear immediately to left of the text.
  • Most images (99.99%) should be quick JPEG for rapid display.
  • Avoid resizing PNG images (2007): might become 10x larger resized.

Overall, omitting "thumb" is the most common problem.

There are many formatting issues in the Wiki software (used worldwide), with a long list of problems to fix, but in the software world, errors often persist, only to be upstaged by a totally radical new software version, rather than just fixing the irritating problems fast. Note that numerous software systems (not just Wiki) have frustrating issues for years. -Wikid77 16:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it just me or are all the png links for every key broken except the one for C Major? FleetingJoy (talk) 16:57, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Which "png links"? In the overleaf article, B-flat major, I only see links to .svg images, and they all work as expected. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:22, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was just me evidently. All well now and no idea why it wasn't working that day.FleetingJoy (talk) 00:00, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Musical Key Characteristics

Should this, and other musical key pages, contain its assumed characteristics or list of, such as D-minor being the saddest key, or A♭-major being "the key of the grave"? https://www.wmich.edu/mus-theo/courses/keys.html / 24.113.97.94 (talk) 22:01, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

B-flat major is one of the most popular keys for concert band compositions.

Is Star Wars an example of this? 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:D890:8BF2:2502:B9F0 (talk) 12:23, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
