New Arena

"Katz has hired a team of architects, engineers, consultants, and promoters to visualize a plan for a new arena for the Oilers, which he hopes the city will build. Through a subsidiary of Katz Group, presently derelict lands in downtown Edmonton have been purchased. Katz envisions a sports district. He has proposed to spearhead private development of condos, hotels, and entertainment venues in this area - if the city builds the arena. Controversy over the level of government funding, if any, that should be put in to the arena project is ongoing in Edmonton." Pronounciation

According to this ref His name is pronounced Kate's. Does anyone know the phonetic mark-up for it and should we add it?--Canoe1967 (talk) 22:33, 20 February 2013 (UTC) Has anyone heard how Mr. Katz wishes to be pronounced? That should be considered the right way. Otherwise I'd say it's "cuts" (Katze is 'cat' in German, in many German/Austrian dialects it is shortened to "Katz", which is also a not uncommon last name).178.2.28.28 (talk) 18:07, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Privacy of names
reads:

Consider whether the inclusion of names of living private individuals who are not directly involved in an article's topic adds significant value. The presumption in favor of privacy is strong in the case of family members of articles' subjects and other loosely involved, otherwise low-profile persons.

This applies to the content removed in my edit. LFaraone 14:37, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The man founds the largest pharmacy in Canada but then you remove the fact that his father founded a pharmacy (I guess not relevant). His wife is the daughter of a wealthy industrialist (who has his own wiki article) but then that gets removed. The source that names who his wife is is removed (I guess the wife's name is relevant but not his parents names) but then the name of his wife is left in the article (now unsourced) perhaps to be removed later as such. Then I go to your history and see that you recently edited an article for comedian Ross Shafer on May 16, 2013 but then leave the fact that he has "Sons: Adam, Ryan (from previous marriage); Daughter: Lauren (adopted with current wife Leah)" in the article which apparently are "encyclopedic". So why the apparent focus on Katz?
Anyhow, standard policy is to include names of parents and children. There are 1000s of biographical articles with this basic information that are constantly being reviewed by administrators and this information is being left in. Anyhow you left out "The names of any immediate, ex, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject. However, names of family members who are not also notable public figures must be removed from an article if they are not properly sourced." There is nothing that says that it cannot be included and given the 1000s of articles that do include the names of parents, spouses, and children, the vast majority of administrators do not read BLPNAME as such.Patapsco913 (talk)
It does not say it "cannot be included". Rather it says, as quoted above, "the presumption of privacy is strong". I removed some personal information about family members on request per VRTS ticket # 2013051410014014. The names of his parents and children do not help provide a "complete understanding of the subject". I have since readded the note about his father, but not the name, and included the citation to his wife's name. LFaraone 02:47, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I added back info on who Katz's wife's father as she is a member of one of the wealthiest families in Canada. I do not have access to the OTRS ticket which I would assume is publically accessible or else you would not send me a link. How do I get access? It would be a nice tool to have.Patapsco913 (talk)

"ethnicity"

Since when is jewish an ethnicity? It is a religion! People from any ethnicity can be from any religion. Jews from Aethiopia are most definitely a different ethnicity than Jews from central Europe. Religion can be changed, ethnicity cannot. --178.2.28.28 (talk) 17:58, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawal of Allegations

Hi. I work for Daryl Katz. There have been recent developments relating to the July 2022 allegations against Mr. Katz by the Buttons. Given that the accusers (who themselves still stand accused of sex crimes against minors) have voluntarily withdrawn the allegations, as documented by this article in Global News and this article in Sports Net, the paragraph should now be deleted from the article based on

WP:UNDUE
. No attention should be given to unfounded and now completely retracted allegations made by accused sex criminals. Thank you for your help, DJ for Katz (talk) 19:14, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Partly done: I don't think this warrants outright removal, but I did add the dismissal. PK650 (talk) 01:10, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Allegation update

Hi.

I'd like to ask that the paragraph regarding ballet dancer Sage Humphries (Personal life section) be removed from the article. The counter-claims were filed and voluntarily retracted due to evidence they were false in less than three weeks, so while it initially seemed relevant for inclusion, it now seems less appropriate according to
WP:NOTNEWS
. If the community feels that the allegations must be included despite the above, I propose the following update to the text for improved accuracy, clarity and neutrality: In July 2022, defendants in a U.S. civil suit filed a counterclaim alleging that Katz paid teenage ballet dancer
Sage Humphries $75,000 in exchange for sexual favors.[1] Humphries denied having had any sexual relationship with Katz.[2][3] The counterclaim arose as part of a sexual abuse lawsuit which Humphries and six other aspiring ballerinas filed against a prominent ballerina and her husband in 2021.[4] Less than a month later, the the couple voluntarily withdrew their claims about Katz after being provided with reliable evidence to the contrary,[5] and their lawyer apologized and requested that the court strike all relevant references from the record.[6]

Allegations dismissed / Neutral language

Hi.

I accept Quetstar's assertion that the inclusion of this information is relevant. To advance neutrality and accuracy, I am asking that the paragraph be modified as per the following:

In July 2022, Boston Ballet ballerina Dusty Button and her husband, defendants in a U.S. civil suit filed by Sage Humphries and six other ballerinas accusing the Buttons of sexual abuse, filed a counterclaim alleging that Katz paid Humpheries $75,000 in exchange for sexual favors.[1] [2] Humphries denied having had any sexual relationship with Katz.[3][4] Less than a month later, in August 2022, the the couple voluntarily withdrew their claims against Katz after being provided with reliable evidence to the contrary[5]; their lawyer issued an apology and requested that the court strike all relevant references from the record.[6]

Not done: The tone of the proposed paragraph is non-NPOV. Denied. Quetstar (talk) 20:37, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If DJ is a personal fan of Darryl Katz or has something to do with the Oilers owner. This would fall into COI territory. GoodDay (talk) 20:37, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • On the contrary, I find this revised, well-sourced paragraph quite neutral, and plan on posting it myself with a tweak or two. Given that the claimants not only redacted their own pleading, admitted it was erroneous AND apologized fully for the accusation, the prior wording in the article is a great deal more lurid than justified by the genuine facts. This is, after all, a BLP. I am at somewhat of a loss in figuring out what Quetstar finds non-NPOV about it, and perhaps he should gain more experience on Wikipedia before jumping in to such an explosive, high-profile case.

Speaking to the COI, it is no violation if the editor doesn't edit the article, but instead raises issues here. Ravenswing 19:37, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Additions and changes to Personal life section

I'd like to modify some of the details in this article, primarily to the Personal life section. These changes will add some detail and remove irrelevant personal information as per

Wikipeidia's policies
. These are my requests:

  • Removal of all the information about the parents of Daryl Katz's wife (second sentence of the second paragraph); adding a sentence about the couple's children:
The couple have twin children, Chloe and Harrison, who are the founders of the nonprofit Hockey Helps Kids organization.[1]
  • Removal of the Katz's exact address and excessive detail about the home from the third paragraph; suggested text:
Katz lives in the Parkview neighbourhood of Edmonton in a 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2) riverfront residence, estimated to be worth C$13 million.[2]
  • Clarification of the details about Katz's health in the last paragraph of that section; suggested text:
It was reported in May 2019 and confirmed by the Oilers Entertainment Group that Katz had been dealing with a life-threatening sinus infection. They also confirmed that Katz had undergone three surgeries in a span of ten months.[3][4] In September 2019, he provided an update on his medical condition stating, "Clearly, it’s been a battle,...I am relieved to tell you the worst is behind me and I'm going to be just fine.”[5]

Thank you for your consideration of this request. DJ for Katz (talk) 15:05, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DJ for Katz (talk) 15:05, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed some of the excess detail, and made that simple insert about the children. I agree that including Katz's address is out of bounds, so I've just stricken that paragraph entirely: yes, yes, we get that very rich people live in swanky homes, but this isn't People Magazine. Nor is that he had a bad sinus infection a particularly encyclopedic element, and I struck that entirely. Ravenswing 17:02, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for this prompt and comprehensive review of my request. These changes improve the article's encyclopedic value and I appreciate your help. There are some additional modifications I'd like to make to other parts of the article; I am working through these and will post an additional edit request in the future. Thank you again. DJ for Katz (talk) 15:31, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Section titles and additional detail

I appreciate the thoughtful review of my previous edit requests and the implementation of the changes that have made this article more encyclopedic and accurate. I'd like to request the following changes:

Katz Group sold its network of approximately 460 corporate-owned 450 Rexall-branded outlets to McKesson Corporation in 2016 for C$3 billion.[1]
  • Renaming of third section to be Sports and entertainment career with a subsection for Purchase of Edmonton Oilers and Creation of Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG)
  • Inclusion of additional details in this section:
    • Worth of OEG; suggested language:
In 2021, OEG was valued by Sportico at $2 billion, including the Oilers team and its related businesses.[2]
  • The dissolution of the partnership with Joel Silver; suggested language:
The partnership was dissolved in 2019 and Silver Pictures carried on under Hal Sadoff.[3]
  • Inclusion of additional detail to the Philanthropy section; suggested revision of last sentence:
Between 2005 and 2010, Katz and his wife have donated "over $50 million" to organizations and institutions across Canada, including a 2010 donation of $500,000 to the Art Gallery of Alberta, renaming the gallery in memory of his wife's mother.[4][5][6]

Katz doesn't have a personal website, so i have declined the infobox part. Quetstar (talk) 19:31, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your input. Tagging previously helpful editors, including Ravenswing and PK650, for further assistance with the remaining portion of this request. DJ for Katz (talk) 16:17, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done: Hi, thank you for your patience. I don't see the point in changing the Pharmacy subsection title, given he is a businessman after all. Did not understand the OEG subsection renaming request either. I don't consider that valuation as particularly reliable, nor did I consider the 500k donation as notable. I think this answers all of your comments. PK650 (talk) 03:59, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
