On 13 August 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from Ghetto tax to Cost of poverty. The result of the discussion was moved.

I've removed a dubious paragraph (below) which is based on speculation and has existed for almost two years without a citation.68.1.135.35 (talk) 23:11, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tackling the problem of ghetto taxes is difficult. For instance, high-interest-rate loans are more likely to be taken by people on lower incomes; however, a study has shown that capping interest rates results in reduced credit availability for those people who most need it. This may make the problem worse.^{[citation needed]}

There should be a separate page for poor tax. A ghetto tax is a thing. It is based on where you live. Poor taxes include ghetto taxes, but there are more, such as late payments because hourly workers are likely paid weekly, or more commonly bi-weekly, and didn't make quite enough. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdblick (talk • contribs) 15:30, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The examples section says:

"Grocery stores in poor neighbourhoods are smaller than in large neighbourhoods"

It nearly seems like a sleight of hand to compare poor neighborhoods with *large* neighborhoods. Shouldn't it be poor vs wealthy areas instead of poor vs large areas?

it's not only about distances
we in poor countries have high customs duties and high local prices for used cars
for instance, importing 7 year or older car to Russia will cost you 5 euro for each cm3 of its engine

Although the concept of Vimes' Theory was introduced in fiction, and Vimes himself is fictional, it is an accurate theory of this phenomenon and comes along with a useful illustrative example of it. I feel this should be mentioned here.
