The result of the move request was: not moved. This entire RM is a mess, but there seems to be somewhat of a consensus that the final name was the name in parentheses with "the". (closed by non-admin page mover) {{ping|ClydeFranklin}} (t/c) 05:57, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On second thoughts, "of Canada" should be removed too. That was part of the original name, but not of the final name. F4U if you agree then I will change the nomination. – Fayenatic London 13:47, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that's what I read going through the citations. Support. :3 F4U (talk) 13:50, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose the move as currently worded. First it's not clear what the intended new name is. The template says
Irish Fusiliers (Vancouver Regiment)
. Second, of Canada was in fact part of the final name. Here's a summary of the official name changes:
Title Start End Years
11th Regiment Irish Fusiliers of Canada 1913 1920 7
The Irish Fusiliers of Canada 1920 1936 16
Irish Fusiliers (Vancouver Regiment) 1936 1946 10
65th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment (Irish Fusiliers), RCA 1946 1958 12
Irish Fusiliers of Canada (The Vancouver Regiment) 1958 1965 7
I'm not opposed to a move in general. I'd recommend removing the subsidiary title in parentheses entirely, as Wikipedia uses parentheses for disambiguation, which we don't need here. After applying
WP:THE, that leave a choice of Irish Fusiliers and Irish Fusiliers of Canada. My preference is Irish Fusiliers of Canada, as that gives a natural disambiguation from any theoretical fusiliers of Ireland. And of Canada was part of the title for 30 years of their 52-year existence. Indefatigable (talk) Indefatigable (talk) 17:36, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply

@Indefatigable: the requested target was (partially) changed, after a brief discussion between two editors which was removed. I restored that part of this discussion and completed the change (changes need to be made in two places). Irish Fusiliers of Canada is another article, about an organization which was amalgamated with the topic of this article in 1936. – wbm1058 (talk) 13:50, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: I'm seeing a consensus to move to Irish Fusiliers of Canada... which already is the title of another article. Where would that article be moved to, if we proceeded with the move here? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 20:52, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oops again – these are not my best contributions – I was wholly mistaken. IIRC, "The Irish Fusiliers of Canada (The Vancouver Regiment)" was the final name, and Irish Fusiliers of Canada and Vancouver Regiment are both in order to be kept as predecessor regiments pre-1936, so we should keep this page at its current compound name after all. – Fayenatic London 16:19, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as per nom. The parenthetical here is the unit's name, not a disambiguator. There is also no policy-based reason to remove "The", per above. Reliable sources cited in the article use the name "The Irish Fusiliers of Canada (The Vancouver Regiment)". 162 etc. (talk) 17:38, 26 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
