Racist content.

Why the need for words like black and white? One man died, another man defending himself and others. Unfortunately people like to stir it up and make it more than just an unfortunate incident. By people I mean WIKI folks. 2601:198:4101:69D0:BD7C:31B4:1B92:AD21 (talk) 22:14, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The 'need,' such as it is, can be found in the coverage of the incident by reliable sources. The racial context of the incident and reactions thereto are prominent in the reporting. Cheers. Dumuzid (talk) 23:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Mentioning someone's race is not "racist". Take a chill pill. WWGB (talk) 00:08, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Multiple
reliable sources mention both men's races when talking about the incident. In any case, mentioning their race as an objective fact is not "racist" - we are merely reflecting what is mentioned in the sources. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:30, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply

Change: "Penny should have known when Neely became unconscious and released him"

to: "some believe the hold was justified while others do not" 50.206.31.50 (talk) 16:37, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please describe how we can provide a "consensus". Several news stations interviewees new yorkers with a mix of responses showing that some people believed Penny's actions justified some did not, shall we provide links to dozens of videos with these interviews? 2601:646:4201:6370:C4A1:5BF:32B:5369 (talk) 02:17, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly believe much of this article should be rewritten. It seems quite biased, heavily insinuating the idea that what Daniel Penny was unjust. 98.115.49.65 (talk) 02:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very much agree. The tone and even the writing style are biased. Please change/edit to be more neutral - especially "should have known." Thanks! 2603:6011:C003:1256:D188:F3CC:F6AC:C762 (talk) 01:57, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the term “white” from Daniel Penny’s description and “black” from Jordan Neely’s description. Vanillawolf98 (talk) 23:13, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - this has been discussed previously, and whether rightly or wrongly, race has been seen as an important facet of the narrative.
Consensus can change, however. Obviously, if you can establish a consensus for this change, it will be made. Happy Friday. Dumuzid (talk) 23:23, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply

Why isn't this alleged?

there has been no conviction on this. The United States still holds an innocent until proven guilty legal system. Throughout the entire article it is described as a homicide perpetrated by Daniel penny which has yet to be proven in a court of law.

It seems for accuracy sake this article should refer to this as an alleged homicide and list Daniel penny as the alleged perpetrator. 2601:646:4201:6370:C4A1:5BF:32B:5369 (talk) 02:13, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no question that Perry committed homicide--he does not deny that, nor does anyone else. The question is whether it was a criminally culpable homicide. If it were described as 'murder' or 'manslaughter,' I would agree with you. But it is not. There is no need to state as 'alleged' facts that are not in doubt. Cheers. Please add the following relevant information to the biography of the deceased. From Newsweek "A New York City police spokesperson told Newsweek that Neely's record has 42 prior arrests, dating between 2013 and 2021. They include four for alleged assault, while others involved accusations of transit fraud and criminal trespass. At the time of his death, Neely had one active warrant for an alleged assault in connection with a 2021 incident." Please note that Wikipedia is supposed to be a neutral political source and as the fact of his criminality would be relevant to assessing the likely impact on his behaviour (more criminal behaviour) it should be included in this post. In simple English, the man wasn't a saint, so please stop trying to pretend he was and give people the full information so they can make up their own minds. 86.42.34.204 (talk) 11:45, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Other potentially relevant sources: CNN, ABC7 NY, New York Daily News, Forbes. Not saying this should or should not be included. Though I'll point out that this has been discussed extensively before. Askarion 14:02, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
