To those who keep redirecting this page back to Lithium_battery: we need to distinguish 3 battery types: 1. Lithium ion battery. These batteries store lithium ions in a host material in the anode, for example graphite. 2. Lithium metal battery, non-rechargeable. This has a lithium metal anode but is not intended to recharge due to safety issues of recharging metallic lithium. Lithium_battery 3. Lithium metal battery, rechargeable. This page is intended to discuss development of rechargeable lithium metal anode batteries.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Doscajones (talkcontribs) 06:09, February 15, 2021 (UTC)

Given the small size of this new article, I suggest a merge into Lithium battery, where a section on rechargeable cells can be included. The discussion is here. Cheers Polyamorph (talk) 10:25, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not a good idea as long as Lithium battery defines a lithium battery as primary (non-rechargeable). Thomaszwilling (talk) 16:05, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lithium metal batteryLithium metal battery (rechargeable) – because Lithium metal battery is on secondary (rechargeable) lithium batteries while most lithium metal batteries are primary (non-rechargeable) and appear under Lithium battery Thomaszwilling (talk) 16:05, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So shouldn't "Lithium battery" also be renamed to "Lithium metal battery (non-rechargeable)"? If they are both lithium metal and primary/secondary is the only difference... Leotohill (talk) 06:35, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes and no. As soon as this requested move has been agreed upon and has been done, I intend to place a request to split in the
Lithium ion battery and yet other parts may have to be moved elsewhere. However, the common name for all of them is and remains "Lithium battery". Therefore, it will be good to keep a well structured trunk article "Lithium battery". I may start to play with that trunk article in the Draft: namespace or in my User: namespace when I feel ready for it. Thomaszwilling (talk) 12:05, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply

Support That sounds good to me. Leotohill (talk) 03:46, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I like that. Leotohill (talk) 15:18, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Thomaszwilling, are you ok with this proposed modification of the name change? I'd like to get this rename completed. Leotohill (talk) 03:33, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Rechargeable lithium–metal battery → Rechargeable lithium-metal battery – The en dash is a hypercorrection; a regular hyphen would be correct. Articles for various other battery chemistries use an en dash to indicate that the named substances are placed on opposing electrodes, such as Nickel–metal hydride battery. However, "lithium-metal" is used here as ordinary English, with "lithium" as an attributive noun qualifying "metal". That is, here "lithium metal" is used as the negative electrode, whereas in NiMH, "nickel" (actually NiOOH) and "metal hydride" are separate substances found at opposite electrodes. 73.223.72.200 (talk) 00:26, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply

I agree that Rechargeable lithium metal battery is the best option, particularly since it was the result of the previous RM above, and the move away from that title was performed without discussion. Dekimasuよ! 00:07, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
