"Formats"

The "Formats" section seems like a bit of apples and oranges, mixing structural formats (e.g. strip, book, webcomic, GN) with descriptions of the techniques used to make then (film, digital, photo, text). Can we split this into separate sections, such as "formats" and "techniques"? -Jason A. Quest (talk) 12:20, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looking closer,
digital comics appears to be a problem: it's really two topics in a single article. That should be addressed somehow, but my suggestion still stands. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 12:21, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply

That one should probably be split.

I approve of this split proposal, basically as suggested. It's hard to say whether digital comic falls under format or creation technique/style in this regard. It hasn't really been a publication format since the 90s (when comics could realistically be distributed by CD), but webcomics are still a type of digital comics. Scott McCloud in his 2000 book Reinventing Comics, definitely stressed the power of using digital tools for creating comics (and art in general). I assume using digital tools is so commonplace today that this is barely considered a distinct "technique" anymore... I'd be happy with either placement, honestly. The split is a good idea either way. ~Mable (chat) 13:47, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest splitting them here as follows:

Formats

Techniques

move to Tropes

This is assuming a half-and-half split of "digital comics". I left out "manga" as it's already (more appropriately) linked to elsewhere in the template as "Japan". -Jason A. Quest (talk) 22:08, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping in mind my comments on digital comics on its talk page, I approve of this distribution. In fact, I think this can already be done (perhaps putting
digital comics in the format list for now). ~Mable (chat) 10:58, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply

Done. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 12:47, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good, thanks! ~Mable (chat) 14:25, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
