Template talk:House of Bernadotte

This template tend to jam up the layout in every article where it appears. Couldn't it be made horizontal and added at the bottom of the pages together with the succession boxes and stuff instead? This also applies to all the other "House of.." templates used in articles about Swedish monarchs.

I'm all for it. The present system is consistent with most non-Swedish royalty articles, though, so you might want to bring it up at

The problem is, while the right-hand side template can mess up the text (I remember wrestling for hours with that when I did my House of Habsburg template), the bottom of article pages can get very cluttered, especially those of ruling royalty. See for example

I get your point (Alfonso XIII looks like the chest of a Soviet war hero, *grin*). Seriously, templates related to Swedish royalties aren't that popular, so, in my opinion, additional templates in the end of articles is not a real problem for those articles. The Alfonso XII case is similar to that of many countries (both cases tend to have loads of templates at the bottom) and I'm sure collapsed templates have been developed to deal with the problem. Most of the Swedish articles are quite short and I believe collapsed templates "out of the way" is the best choice for them.

Also, please note I'm not sure at all templates limited to succession/children is the best choice for a template - I just copied the stuff already present in the current template. Why not include queens, dates, battles, etcetera? In a collapsed template even family trees might be included! However, for now, the goal of my proposal is limited to improve the layout of the articles in their present state.

If the articles on Swedish kings are short, then they should be expanded. I mean, most of them lived an awful long time.

Gustav V lived until the age of 92, but only gets 9 paragraphs! He must have done something in those years. For minor princes and princesses, probably best to use a shortened version of the template with one or two generations of the family in (see for example Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha)- no real need for, say, Prince Erik to have the full Bernadotte template.
