MOS:BLPTENSE, we can use the present tense for statements made by reviewers and in academic writing, and we use the past tense for news and marketing materials. When I was informed that this article was going to be on the main page, I checked to make sure the plural uses were consistent, so no please don't change anything more. oh, interesting! admittedly, i had not considered mos:blptense since i didn't think the article was a blp (although the book itself may be a bdp); i had been relying on

mos:tense, which states to "write articles in the present tense", and to "use past tense only for past events". i had assumed the use of "received", "acclaimed", and "recognized" indicated that the book's critical reception was considered to be in the past, and only tried to make the blurb more consistent by changing "feel" to "felt". i am not as familiar with mos:blptense, so if you think that it is overriding in this case, please feel free to change "felt" back to "feel". thanks, Christine! dying (talk) 20:24, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply

@Dying, not a problem. Well no this article isn't a BLP, but it does contain biographical info since it's an autobiography. You'll notice that for those sections, I used the past tense. For literary discussions of the book, I used BLPTENSE. That's also what my main professor in grad school taught me. It gets really confusing when you have to mix tenses (i.e., "Critic Hilton Als believes that the title of Gather Together may relect its theme of how one Black woman was able to survive in the wider context of post-war America while also speaking for all Black women, and how they survived in a white-dominated society."). Sory if my english terrible. Points for discussion talk page: 1) About the rooles. I the only roole: to make material consistent. What allowed to one person the same is allowed to another, it mean neutlality. If Axel jump Axel and wee cheer him up as the 1-st, there is a precedent to apply it to Petrosian's case. Both them cannot go to the ISU competitions. If Axel's photo is welocome at the history, Petrosian is in the same situation. 2) If to discuss quads. ISU-controlled events do not show woman quads for a year or more, am I correct? As of Russia, I have seen lots of them during the same time. If so, majority of woman-FS-strongest girls is beyond the ISU, in Russia. Minority should not dictate rools to the majotity and to the strongest. It is not ZOO of flags. Hello! I found those two articles while working on Wikidata for figure skating articles without Wikidata entries/without statements in their Wikidata entries. @Harmonia Amanda, hello to you. These two articles are new and were created in order to shorten the length of the main bio, Yuna Kim. To be honest, it never occurred to any of us in the Figure Skating WikiProject to combine the two new ones, probably because they're very different articles. Impact of Yuna Kim is about Kim's general influence of figure skating and sports, while Media image and impact of Yuna Kim is about her other careers, both before and after her retirement from skating. I suppose they could be combined, but I'd personally be against it. I'll bring up your suggestion at the talk page of the project, though, and see what others think. Thank you for your answer! The clarification there was not apparent to me while reading quickly the articles. Maybe they can be merged into one with sections "in sports" and "others", or maybe the titles could be made clearer? (maybe by renaming one to "impact on *figure skating*"?). Frankly I came here via Wikidata, as stated in my first message, trying to understand the scope and aims of each articles to add basic data points.

I can usually rely on categories, at least, but here both just said "Figure skating in South Korea" (while you are saying that one of them is not really centred around figure skating?). Maybe something like Category:Cultural impact by person would be appropriate? I don't want to make any changes to the articles without understanding what the scopes of both are supposed to be.

A search on this Wikipedia about "impact of [someone]" basically shows me no results at all (some redirects, but no specific article). There are some about "cultural impact of [someone]" but they are quite different. So I can't rely on other pages to deduce what the usual scope of such articles would be, since they appear to be fairly isolated in their structuring.

English is not my native language, even though I'm decent in it, and I don't really contribute to the English Wikipedia. I am very aware that even though I contribute on figure skating elsewhere, I do not know the work you do here, and I don't want to break things. If you think a merge is a bad idea, then I trust you. My main goal is really just to understand what each article is about, to be able to do the Wikidata items properly so it can be linked in the general database, and found, and used, by people not speaking English.

This can probably be achieved by means other than merging, clarifying the first sentences of both articles to explain the scope, having both articles clearly link to each other (maybe a top link with something like "this article is about Yuna's impact of figure skating, for her impact on other things see this article"), and having more categories.

By the way, since there are now three articles (at least) about her, maybe one solution would be to create a category for her on the English Wikipedia? I don't know the criteria for categories in your WP.

I don't want to make these changes myself as an outsider, particularly one who still don't exactly understand the scope the enwp:Figure skating project assigned these two articles. I don't disagree with you regarding your suggestions for categories, so I'll bring it up for discussion at WikiProject Figure Skating. I do agree that a new category should be formed for Kim, now that she has three articles about her. I will do that shortly, too. At any rate, thanks for your suggestions. The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

• AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), with one FA on Hö'elün, two GAs on Mongolia-related articles, and two DYKs;
• Vami_IV (submissions), with one FA on Doom (2016 video game), one GA on Boundary Fire (2017), and 11 reviews;

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

The script links more than just newspapers; it links publishers from both the South Korean and North Korean government so people can scrutinize what is coming from what. I'm not tied to any of these organizations... Just a well-meaning nerd.

@Toobigtokale: I probably mislabeled this in the edit summary; perhaps a better one would be overlinking, because you link every instance of the newspapers. Perhaps linking them just once would be enough? Or if it's already linked in the article? Remember, we only have to link once. My apologies for the mislabeling.

I get what you say about DYK reviewers not recognizing the So. Korean media sources. They just assume that since they've never heard of The Korea Times, it must not exist. It demonstrates the bias on WP against non-Western and obscure topics, and since I focus on those types of articles, too, I run into the same kind of thing a lot, too. I sympathesize, really I do, but I'm not sure that overlinking is the solution. That being said and since you explained it all, if you want to rerun the script, go ahead. Besides familiarising yourself with actual review requirements, and that you can't approve your own alt hooks, I only found out you'd even done a review because I watch the talkpage - pinging nominators is an option, but if a review isn't passed straight away you should inform the nominator that it has done and they may need to address things by using one of the templates provided in the editing window of the review page. Election results: In our December 2023 coordinator election, Zippybonzo stepped down as coordinator; we thank them for their service. Incumbents Dhtwiki and Miniapolis were reelected coordinators, and Wracking was newly elected coordinator, to serve through 30 June. Nominations for our mid-year Election of Coordinators will open on 1 June (UTC). Drive: 46 editors signed up for our January Backlog Elimination Drive, 32 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 289 articles totaling 626,729 words. Barnstars awarded are here. Blitz: 23 editors signed up for our February Copy Editing Blitz. 18 claimed at least one copy-edit and between them, they copy-edited 100,293 words in 32 articles. Barnstars awarded are here. Drive: 53 editors signed up for our March Backlog Elimination Drive, 34 of whom claimed at least one copy-edit. Between them, they copy-edited 300 articles totaling 587,828 words. We are approaching the end of the 2024 WikiCup's second round, with a little over two weeks remaining. Currently, contestants must score at least 105 points to progress to the third round.

Our current top scorers are as follows:

• voorts (submissions) with 530 points, mostly from two FAs (Well he would, wouldn't he? and Cora Agnes Benneson) and three GAs;
• Generalissima (submissions) with 523 points, mostly from 11 GAs about coinage and history;
• FA about the 2020 season of the soccer club Seattle Sounders FC
  and two GAs;
• Tamzin (submissions) with 410 points, mostly from a FA about the drink Capri-Sun and three GAs;
• Kusma (submissions) with 330 points, mostly from a FA about the English botanist Anna Blackburne and a GA.

Competitors may submit work for the second round until the end of 28 April, and the third round starts 1 May. Remember that only competitors with the top 32 scores will make it through to the third round. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on
