Error in Template:Infobox television

Hi Gonnym; This edit introduced duplicate parm errors. It's causing havoc on Category:Articles using duplicate arguments in template calls. Can you fix it? Thanks Davemck (talk) 18:57, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. Should be fixed now. Gonnym (talk) 18:59, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What have you done? Now all film infoboxes show "director" and "writer" in those fields. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:54, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone should reverse the edit, this is bad. Exteahans71 (talk) 11:10, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Douglas

Hi,

WP:FILM and would be grateful for your involvement on actor Michael Douglas' page as well. I put up an edit request detailing the roles, awards, and information currently missing from his page. As I understand the Wiki policies about COI editing, I am not adding these myself, though I am happy to if you give me the green light. Grateful for your time and involvement, BenKalman2024 (talk) 20:05, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply

Infobox film

Are you sure about this? I think you need to add triple braces around each of those parameters for "director", "writer", "producer", etc.  — Archer1234 (t·c) 11:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is being discussed here. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:14, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The user desprictated it Exteahans71 (talk) 11:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up! Stupid mistake and should be fixed now. Gonnym (talk) 11:21, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AWB clean up post-move

Hey Gonnym, for clean up post-move edits such as this, what are you using for the find-and-replace settings? -- Alex_21 TALK 07:30, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

\(season (\d*)\) -> season $1 Gonnym (talk) 07:31, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just need to make sure to catch the instances where the infobox has "some camera guy (season 1)" and not accept those changes. Gonnym (talk) 07:32, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Moving redirects

Hello, Gonnym. You moved I Am Groot (season 2) to I Am Groot season 2, but these are both redirects. As such, I Am Groot (season 2) is now a double redirect to I Am Groot season 2. I have fixed these two pages, but I don't know if you have performed similar moves without correcting double redirects, so please check them and fix any errors. I know there are bots that go around fixing these, but as you can see, they don't catch everything. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:51, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The bots will eventually fix these, there are many pages that were moved. Gonnym (talk) 06:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Including redirects? InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:02, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be very surprised if the bot that fixes these things does not fix this. If they don't fix this, then that's a pretty big bug in its design. Gonnym (talk) 06:04, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Double redirects#Double redirects and bots one of these should fix these. Gonnym (talk) 06:45, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus it seems User:EmausBot is cleaning these now. Gonnym (talk) 09:24, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category redirects

If your premise is that category redirects should not exist at all, then propose a change of policy with respect to them. They are permissible, and for categories that existed at a particular title for a long time before being moved, positively useful. BD2412 T 15:06, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My premise is that either you've been given misleading information by Tom or you just don't understand the rational behind category redirects. We keep category redirects for only a limited amount of reasons. None of which apply here. What you are creating in mass without consensus (and I should say,
WP:MEATBOT applies here) are pointless category redirects that not only will never have any usage but will actually hinder any editor that is trying to find real categories with this style that should be renamed as you are clogging up the search results. Gonnym (talk) 07:46, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply
]
We literally just moved over 6,000 articles with the exact same title update and left a redirect for every single one of them. I have been working with categories for decades, have have never encountered any hindrance from the existence of category redirects. To the contrary, I find them extremely helpful in finding the correct category title when the name of the category is not obvious. Is it not the case that the current title will always appear ahead of a redirect in the search box? BD2412 T 13:24, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Article redirects and category redirects serve two different functions. While I don't like to link to essays, this basically sums my points Wikipedia:Category_redirects_that_should_be_kept#Category_redirects_that_might_be_useful. The old page name is not useful as no one is going to manually search for it and most likely not use the old names in article creations. Even if they do use the old name, I'd rather it be a red link and them learning about the new name instead of them continuing to incorrectly use the old style.
Regarding the search, I'm not sure how category redirects and the primary name appear in search results but that wasn't what I was referring to anyways. I tend to check once in awhile various maintenance sections and fix issues. If I'd do now intitle:"/\(season in the category namespace I'd get all the pages you created instead of only new pages that need to be sent to CFDS to rename name. That was what I meant by saying these are not only unhelpful but hinder actual work. Gonnym (talk) 10:02, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't the CFDS task already done and gone? I tend to doubt that editors using Hotcat or the like will remember that the title scheme has been changed, and if they type in, e.g., "The Simpsons (season 10) episodes", the tool will automatically follow the redirect and populate "The Simpsons season 10 episodes". BD2412 T 16:23, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you please explain how is a double redirect from

My Next Life (Grey's Anatomy) to Grey's Anatomy season 12#ep257 better than the disambiguation page I had created? Thanks Broc (talk) 11:34, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply
]

It isn't. But you should never take over a page without doing cleanup work. The page was created for a reason and you're changed deleted that reason. Gonnym (talk) 08:14, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion

Hello, I was wondering, what do you think about this move discussion? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_Beyblade:_Shogun_Steel_episodes --2A01:5A8:30D:955E:3C27:B37D:3CB:9DE (talk) 07:31, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

request
that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia.

The Template Barnstar

The Template Barnstar
Huge thanks for fixing the template for Hawaii Five-0 articles. My three years of computer science programming lessons clearly went down the drain, because I wouldn't have had an idea where to start for something like that 😂. I appreciate the assistance. TheDoctorWho (talk) 16:44, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) But its easier when its code you wrote and also recently fixed for the disambiguation change (which was a real headache). Gonnym (talk) 17:20, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
