Hi, can you make a comment about my new project Encyclopine.org

hi, Hi, can you make a comment about my new project Encyclopine.org?

Phone number for public phone box

Hi, Hassocks5489.

I was pleased to see your photo of the K6 phone booth outside St. Mary's in Shoreham. Would you happen to have a phone number for it (if it indeed remains a public phone box with a number)? I am setting up an Easter Treasure Hunt remotely, using Google Earth, and would very much like to enable a small boy to cause the phone to ring. I'd be grateful f you could reply to gordonink at gmail.com before April 2nd, 2015.

Thanks in advance for your attention to the above,

Gordonink

Don't suppose you're sitting on any better photos? Commons has surprisingly slim pickings and last time I was there it was surrounded by orange barriers. No worries if not, I'll nip over at some point myself the next time we get a clear day on my day off. Btw, how would you feel about a meetup in Brighton on a Saturday in late January or into February? Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:09, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@HJ Mitchell: Evening (belatedly: doing some offline photo-sorting this week, prior to uploading to Commons!). Unfortunately nothing other than what I have already uploaded; but I'm likely to be in Brighton on Thursday 28th, when the weather looks good. I'll let you know how I get on. Will also check my books/sources for any more info on the statue itself. On Brighton meetups: the only Saturday I can't do in January or February is the 17th February; other than that everything is in scope. Happy to help with making arrangements, venue suggestions etc. Discussion could involve B&A in B&H FAC potential – you might be able to persuade me... Hope to see you in the New Year! Cheers, Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 18:39, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out there was more to say about it than I thought! With a bit of work it could be a GA or even FA but it needs more appreciation and perhaps some more post-unveiling history if there's anything much to say. Not sure the seafront at that point has changed dramatically in the last ~100 years; it looks about the same as in old photos! The Pevsner city guide was disappointingly brief; no pithy opinion to quote! It would be great if you could dig anything else up to flesh it out a bit.
How about 10 Feb as a target date (picked largely at random)? I'm sure Thryduulf will make the journey down if we can agree a date, then it's not a wasted journey even it's just the three of us. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:10, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell: 10th Feb sounds good to me! I'll have a look for Peace Statue info in the meantime. 28th still looks OK for photos, all being well. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 19:00, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appear to have miscalculated my dates; I can't do the 10th. How does the 3rd look for you? I thought the 'Spoons between the station and the seafront would make a good meeting point and we could wander from there once everyone is assembled and we've had a drink and a bite to eat. Not a fan of Spoons normally for ... reasons, but they're the best places for gatherings like this. I'd love to join you on the 28th but alas I'll be at work. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:28, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@HJ Mitchell: 3rd is good too! The Bright Helm on West Street is generally the more reliable option, agreed. I still think of it as the Abbey National building, though! Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 21:38, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fab. I've created a page on Meta. If you're definitely on for the 3rd at the Bright Helm I'll poke some of the folks from the last Portsmouth meetup to see if we can drum up a bit of interest. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:39, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@HJ Mitchell: Happy new year! I got some pix before the rain started, but need to get them off my camera to see how useful they are: the light wasn't the best. I took some close-ups of the plaques as well. Will try to have a look tonight in my books for more info as well – failing that, it will be next week sometime. 13 pix now uploaded to the relevant Commons category with the naming convention "Statue of King Edward VII (Peace Memorial), King's Road, Brighton (NHLE Code 1381644) (December 2023)". I've been through my books and added what I can, which unfortunately isn't very much. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 22:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're a star. Thank you! Funnily enough, I bought a copy of Middleton's A History of Hove but you're right, there's not much there. Does Pevsner have anything to say in Sussex: East? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:29, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing different in Pevsner from what is said in Antram, sadly (there is generally quite a lot of overlap between the two). Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 23:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Was great to meet you the other day! FYI, I've uploaded my photos from the Royal Albion Hotel fire to Commons; they're all in c:Category:Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton (2023 fire). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:17, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for arranging Saturday: it was an excellent day, and very good to put names to faces after, in many cases, so many years. Thanks for doing the Royal Albion photos as well. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 09:23, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Hello, I plan on starting a discussion on the Brighton talk page at 6. I would appreciate your feedback in order to resolve this issue. 78.86.131.251 (talk) 17:16, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is likely an LTA who is rangeblocked from Brighton for disruptive editing around the difference between Brighton and Brighton and Hove; the article already notes that the latter has city status, but this user insists on applying the same argument to the former as if they are the same things. DYK for Lewes Friends Meeting House

On 18 March 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lewes Friends Meeting House, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Lewes Friends Meeting House, built in 1784, replaced an earlier building whose proximity to a slaughterhouse made it "unfit to sit in"?
