@Yolo4A4Lo, ErnestKrause, and Marika yuzu: Now that we plan to brush up Hanyu's main bios page, I've made some brainstorming regarding the possible development of his professional career, and with that the expansion and mainenance of his page series here on Wikipedia. I expect him to produce more shows like Continues with Wings or Prologue over the next years, and with the new membership system on his YouTube channel he will probably upload more content there as well. So the section about his professional career will likely blow up within the next years (no matter how much we try to condense it).

My suggestion for a flexible expansion of his page series is that we create another sub-page about his self-produced shows with the title "Ice shows produced by Yuzuru Hanyu" or something similar. This has the advantage that we can compile summaries of his shows there, even if they have different names, and give each one its own section. If the page blows up in ten years or so, it can be split anytime. I also suggest to create the draft during Prologue, collect all sources and compile the most important infos as long as the memories are fresh. This would relieve the pro-section on his bios page from the beginning.

So his page series would look like this:

• Main biography (
  to-do list here
  )
• Olympic seasons (completed, maybe add info about 4A if he lands one but that's it)
• Self-produced ice shows (
  in the making
  )
• List of career achievements (mostly completed, only accolade section may further grow)
• List of programs and publications (
  in the making
  )

I think, this would cover all important topics and sufficiently unburden his main bios, at least for the next decade. It definitely has the potential to become a really great series, maybe also get promoted to a featured topic.

I will record a spoken version of the Olympic seasons article this week. If you agree with the structure above, I will also set up a draft for the ice show sub-page that can be expanded during Prologue and moved to the mainspace, when the shows in Hachinohe in December are finished. I think this is a fine plan. I so admire the work what I've come to call "the Hanyu team" has done. It's so impressive; you all should be very proud of yourselves. Even though I'm disillusioned about the FAC process of late, I agree that you should go for a featured topic; see

I have looked up the current featured topics in the category sports and recreation, and realized that there is no FT about an individual athlete yet. We have the Quietly Confident Quartet of Australian swimmers, but that's it. There is also only one winter sports-related FT about the 1952 Winter Olympics, nothing else. So bringing Hanyu's page series to FT class would be really special in many ways, and looking at the current assessment status of his pages, this goal is definitely within reach at this point. I think this is a solid plan. I think we can go for FT after List of programs and publications and Main article has been finished. Currently, I have a bit more freetime (until new year at least), then I might be more occupied by my job as well. That's the main reason why I set up the task force, so that others can dive into the project and continue the work on Hanyu's series in the case that we no longer have enough time and capacity ourselves. I will try my best to contribute as much as I can this month and prepare the two new sub-articles for the main space.

When Hanyu's main biography is ready for the FAC nomination, we will of course list you as a main author and also ping you about the progress. One more thing: you might want to submit this to GAC first; it's not required that articles are promoted to GA before FA, but nominators at FAC value that it's been done. @Figureskatingfan: Thank you very much for your supportive comment. I agree with you and also with Wolfson's comments that the ice show article needs more context to work as a stand-alone article, so we plan to add a proper introductory section with important background information. In that sense, I am not sad that this FAC nomination failed. I plan to submit it for a copy-edit and yes, a GA nomination might be smart for this article. We will keep working hard to get it to FA class one day.

I am very happy about your plan to nominate Robert Jones' biography for GA class. He is indeed an important and often overlooked historian in figure skating. It should be pretty easy, although I'm sure the reviewer will have problems with some of the sources, so I'll have to defend them, I'm sure. I don't think Jones' bio is long enough to warrant an FAC, though. Very interesting dude and fun to learn about him and the English royal court in the 18th century. @Figureskatingfan: Please refrain from adding ANY inline citations to single table cells. They mess up the table templates regarding display and accessibility. Please only use the designated |ref= parameters to add bundled sources for tables. Nothing else. Other sources should be added to the prose text of the article only. This also goes for the tables on List of highest scores in figure skating. If possible, move inline citations from single table cells to a prose section above the table. Gosh, I wish that you or someone else had brought up this issue before. I've never been very good at handling and managing tables, so could you explain how including inline citations does this? Also, how could we fix them, other than removing the refs? Maybe add another column to the template with the ref parameter? I'm not sure that your suggestion of adding them to the ref parameter would work, since it wouldn't be clear what the source supports. @Figureskatingfan: I genuinely don't see the point of sourcing each score in the table one by one, when there is already a bundled source for everything in the table caption. No other skater's detailed results section is doing this. The only useful thing to link is the official ISU competition results pages like we did for Yuzuru Hanyu and Nathan Chen. Henni, I direct you to the talk pages mentioned above. We thought it would be a good idea to include reliable secondary sources for scores when possible, since the ISU sources are primary. Those involved in the discussion seem agree that this would generally be a good idea for all skater bios. I would think that integrating reliable sources in detailed results sections is something we'd do gradually, as is already being done with the recent changes to tables. I'd like to hear how you think we can accomplish this without removing the sources out of hand. @Figureskatingfan: I have three strong reasons not to include newspaper sources in data tables:

1. You either source all scores one by one or none. It looks grossly odd if only some scores in the table have an inline citation and others not. And you will not find newspaper articles for all scores in the table, especially for lower-ranked skaters.
2. Referencing all scores one-by-one exponentially blows up the reference section and leads to (a) ref template overload and (b) too large article sizes.
3. Like I mentioned before, it messes up the accessibility of the table templates, so the articles may not pass FAC reviews.

I have checked multiple sports articles in other sports like snooker, which have many FA and GA articles. None of the result tables use newspaper sources for each placement or score. I don't see why figure skating should do so. Sorry but I have to oppose this suggestion.

Addition: The main purpose of secondary sources is to show the encyclopedic notability of an information in general, in this case the notability of scores achieved at international skating competitions and national championships. You do this in the career summary of the article's prose part. For the statistics tables, what is important is to have a bundled source that lists ALL relevant scores for the skater, so that readers can check if the list is (a) complete and (b) correct or not. Scores are unshakable facts; they don't become more true just because they are mentioned by the New York Times or the Guardian.

The only case where a newspaper source might be important is if a skater has been retrospectively disqualified because of a positive doping test or something similar. This is an information that you may not get from the ISU database. Henni147 (talk) 17:59, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Parallel, I'm working on a new article about professional figure skating (history of pro competitions and ice shows). I think, it's long overdue that we have a proper article on that topic, and I found many fantastic sources.

Hi again Henni, now for something completely different. ;) I'm helping a fellow editor with a draft (Draft:Ulrike E. Auga), through the other WikiProject I'm involved in, WikiProject Women in Religion. Auga is a German academic; I thought that since you know and move about in German WP, that you might be a good resource for assistance. There are all kinds of problems with this draft. It was created by a relatively inexperienced editor, who got it translated from German WP. My biggest concern is that the subject is probably not notable enough for English WP and since I don't know German, I'm unable to evaluate the sources or find other sources that would support her notability. @Figureskatingfan: Yes, it's true that the cited sources on the draft page are almost exceptionally primary sources. The few secondary sources either don't mention Auga at all like Britannica or only marginally. My main issue with the article is what you said as well: lack of encyclopedic notability. The lead mentions many things about Auga's studies and what influenced her in evolving as a professor. But there is little to no information about how her own works have notably influenced science and society, which is the crucial part of a Wikipedia biography. Personal life shouldn't cover more than a section at best, but it must not make up the majority of the lead section. I haven't checked the German article yet, but I can do that tomorrow if needed.
