Miss you

Die Fliege

Thank you for the immense contributions to French and German culture that we wouldn't have without you. Who will help me with Opéra de Montréal, a sad stub mentioned on the Main page? We can talk on the German Wikipedia, - you might drop help for that article on my talk there, for example. I'd understand, however, if you had no further intention to help here. Merci. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I will miss you too. Thanks for what you've done. Thanks for translating over 6000 German and French articles into English. Thanks for the immense work, you have done. You are a loss for the whole Wikipedia project. You can contact me under de:Benutzer Diskussion:Grimes2. Grimes2 (talk) 09:08, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I mentioned you on my talk, inviting "teh community" to create the two authors of "let me not be here in vain" which you can't do. I thank you so much for those you could do, such as Tag des offenen Denkmals. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Today, I dedicate La Passion selon Sade to you, - a Christian hymn seemed not quite right ;) - I decorated with the image another missed friend took. I dedicated Mass in B minor structure to him. The Passion will grow, promised. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Offer

Thanks for responding to my question at AN regarding your language skills. (Actually, based on your last response at AN (diff, perma) and your user page, you're a bit higher than an en-3; I'd place you probably around en-3.5 or en-3.7, but the {{Babel}} template does not permit that.) Unfortunately, I learned of that AN discussion too late to take part in a substantive way. The discussion there is over now, so I don't wish to rehash it; I don't know how I would have voted on the block, and what I "might have said" in the discussion would not be relevant or helpful to you now.

However, I did want to let you know (perhaps you already do) that an

indefinite block is not an infinite block, and if you did want to contribute again at some point in the future, an appeal for an unblock is not impossible. I don't think that road would be an easy one, and if you choose to go that route, I think you should let some time elapse first (probably six months at least) and then marshal your resources and think about your approach for how to go about it. It sounds like Gerda would be willing to help out if you asked, she is clearly an ally, and if you pinged me I would be willing to give you some feedback about your plans to come back. I'm struggling with how to say this properly so it doesn't come out wrong: you shouldn't view me either as an ally or as someone who's out to get you, because I'm neither; rather, you should see me as someone who is willing to help you attempt a return, even if it involves saying some things straight up that might be hard for you to hear, but could increase your chances of success. If you want that, ping me in six months or so, or email me via the link on the left sidebar on my Talk page, if you prefer a private connection, although I prefer open communication as much as feasible. (Gerda, you can do the same, if you initiate something.) In the meantime, enjoy a break, get out and smell the roses, and don't think about Wikipedia. If and when you're ready to think about a comeback and want some feedback about it, let me know. Good luck, Mathglot (talk) 16:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)[reply

@
WP:VERIFY says. Until we have a properly sourced article ready for mainspace, anyone searching for this subject will find the de.wiki article and can google translate it if they want to. I'm not sure about interlanguage links but as far as I understand it they don't link to draft articles so they can't be restored until the article comes back into mainspace. All the best Mccapra (talk) 09:53, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply

Sorry, I can't follow. What do interlanguage links have to do with this being in draft space, why not have Frank Petzold where he is mentioned? Is there any contentious information in the article which would require particular verification? Personally, I believe it would be better for this article to be in Main space where people see it and can add a ref or two. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] - See also. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:28, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you think it should be in mainspace you’re welcome to move it back. Mccapra (talk) 11:13, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll wait until I have time for it, installing the refs properly and perhaps from what they say, and then let a third person inspect. I think the author should not be blocked, but who's listening to what I think. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:35, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your talk page access

LouisAlain, tl;dr: Despite your previous comments to the contrary, I think you still have Talk page access. Try replying below and see what happens.

Details: you previously stated somewhere that you couldn't respond here at your Talk page because of your block, but a

WP:BLOCK
and talk page restriction are two different things, and I don't see that your Talk page access is restricted:

If your access here were restricted, when you follow the 'block log' link it would say "(account creation blocked, cannot edit own talk page)" (emphasis added), but it does not say that. Unless there is some kind of logging restriction that I am unaware of that doesn't show up at the 'block log', you continue to have free access to this page, and you may reply here, within the constraints of

appeal your block
on this page at any time.

I mention this, because the ongoing discussion at AN, includes a new subsection entitled, "

WP:BLOCK. Berig
, can you please confirm this, and provide a guideline or policy link if possible?)

That said, Louis, I would be extremely cautious about making such a request to copy comments of yours to AN, as to be honest, you can be your own worst enemy sometimes, and silence there is probably your best bet right now. If I were you, I'd just let the conversation continue without you, with one exception: brief, neutrally-worded correction of clear errors of fact.

If you were to reply at AN via this method, I would restrict your comments to completely neutral statements about 100% provable errors of fact, and not to any (perceived) errors of judgement, opinion, or unprovable assertions. In particular, stay away from anything involving machine translation. For example: if an editor at the AN thread says something like, "On Octember 32nd, Louis added unsourced content to Weimar Republic" you can reply with, "No, I didn't; here is a link to the page history, and I am not listed there", and just leave it at that. No argumentation, no opinion, no comments on other editors and what their motivations might be, no comments on how difficult/unfair the whole process is; just plain, simple, correction of fact, and nothing more. (Trust me; this is for your own good. The other exception would be if an admin or trusted editor at AN asks you a specific question there and asks you to respond here, but that probably won't happen.)

Louis, please try and respond to this thread now with just a "Hello. ~~~~" — that should establish whether your page access is working or not. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 21:13, 11 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mathglot, thanks for your kind intervention and advice. Just, I have no intention whatsoever to crawl on the ground and twist like a worm in order to beg pardon and mercy. I was blocked for an invented lie that wasn't one. First, I didn't like to be summoned to court where the final result was already set up. Had I been asked if I used a translation machine I would have answered : yes. I simply answered the question that was asked. Just, I don't use Google translate but another one (DeepL). This imaginary and made up lie sure called for a block. There was a massive drive to push me out (no name given following your suggestion) and like many other users before me, it succeeded.
Apart native anglophones like you with an astounding abilities in many foreign languages, who doesn't use online translators ? Yes, the end result is bound to be an pleasant read for English speakers. One even asked some years ago if I really understood what I was writing. How nice of him! And I thought Wikipedia was a collaborative encyclopedia where everyone was invited to improve the project. Quite the opposite, some here behave like vandals.
I thought the references issue was closed since my 30 or so last translations were filled with references a galore. Yet, someone called for the deletion of Cologne Cathedral quarter with 48 checked and verified references. I'm no longer interested in working in such friendly environment. Anyway, using a translating machine will always be fraught with mistakes and errors. It would be criminal from me to pursue my wrecking job here. I've returned to the fr. Wiki, publishing under I.P. The attribution thingie is meaningless to me.
As Gerda Arendt (talk · contribs) wrote, there was an effective German Mannschaft at work here and it has been dispelled by "well meant" people. Wikipedia's lost, not mine.
I've started trying my hand on the de. Wiki but with mitigated success so far. If Grimes2 (hi Grimes2) is curious, it's there : de:Anne-Sophie Lapix and de:Harry Roselmack. The third try was deleted.
As you can see, this reply was written without Google Translate nor DeepL. Is it better or even wore ? 2A01:E0A:98E:9040:189E:1399:3187:8ACE (talk) 15:29, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, dear, dear. Louis, surely it was clear that I meant you should try to reply here logged in to your LouisAlain id as usual, wasn't it? I hope I haven't led you astray. In any case: to answer your last question: your English is fine; I've already said you are above an en-3, perfectly adequate for editing at en-wiki; that was never the problem, and is not now.
As for the rest, I'm afraid you've only hurt yourself further, especially with
block evasion unless you didn't realize you weren't logged in. I'm really trying to help you here, but sadly, it seems you can't help yourself. I'm so sorry; absent a miracle, the outcome at AN now looks nearly inevitable to me. It pains me to say so, since it's obvious you are capable of great work. Maybe it will work out better for you at de-wiki; I hope so. All the best, Mathglot (talk) 02:31, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply

Today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist you created whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", miss you!), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. 24 October 2021

LouisAlain, this article is dedicated to you! Scandal seems to fit better than a hymn ;) I miss your inspiration, translation of cultural topics you found in obscure corners, good spirits, thankful heart. Thank you for literary context from Kafka to Schopenhauer. I believe it's a scandal that we found no constructive way of collaboration, - I felt so talking in vain in the AN thread. Au revoir, and for a hymn after all, there's Möge die Straße uns zusammenführen, and telling you and myself: "go on with life, have a laugh, don't get too upset". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:15, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Gerda, thank you for this last one and let it be known that I share your Weltanschaung : Don't Look Back in Anger, if you like literary references...
There is this article de:Heinrich Nüttgens which would have perfectly fit on this site. Just, it now can be read on two other versions of Wiki, too bad for native anglophones...
You'd think that was the end of the story. Nope madame ! A swiss Benutzer came out of the blue and offered me his version of Swiss hospitality and courageously deleted my last word. I am not blocked, nor banned but left with no option but to leave by myself. Goes to show Wikipedia and me weren't meant for each other. It would have happened sooner or later so no regret whatsoever, I'm averse to this sick mindset. This is exactly how things unfolded on the fr-Wiki 5 and a half year ago with a tag on my back for the rest of my life; Some kind of
Scarlet Letter so to speak.  :-) Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
I see your Hilf, Herr meines Lebens links to a video on a site I was (not exactly kindly) advised not to link to some years ago from my best friend on this site. He has now launched a so-called "investigation" against Grime2's production. Last time I checked, Grimes2 was not amused to be mistaken with a fraudster. When it looks like a duck, when it walks like a duck, and when it quacks like a duck I know it's a duck. When it behaves like a perv., when it adresses others like a crackpot and when it spends hours of its time looking for shit with its snout, I know the man is a sick one.
At the end of the day, I keep on having fun with translating from French, German, Italian etc. Whether these pages are online or not is no longer any of my concern...

Gerda's November corner

November songs

In November, I can offer some reading, - three feast days in a row, reformation followed by All Saints' and All Souls. On All Saints, we sang in choir in a mass - a 2021 first - and rehearsed (with the other group) for the next such thing next Sunday. All Souls is the birthday of the subject of my first article who will play a major concert on 14 November. Today we "celebrate" the first DYK for which you laid the base in a German sandbox. Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:53, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another fine DYK which asked for much research from you. Maybe could you choose any article in French or German with already many avalaible references which would spare you the time and energy to engage on hours of online research? LouisAlain (talk) 13:27, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can do those, I go by where I need red links filled, the next Börsenblatt (stub is enough). I hope to take Habakuk soon, just finishing a recent death article, Doğan Akhanlı. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:32, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you allow me, I notice [Doğan Akhanlı was a collaborator to an association named "recherche international"]. I didn't find anything regarding that association (you know how weak I am when it comes to finding references), yet, for what I know, "recherche" isn't a German word nor an English one, hence it must be a generic French name. In that case, international must end with an e. All the more so since association is also a feminine word in French.
Other than that, I'll have Johannes Schmidlin and Matthias Janz at your disposal (very litte refs in German though). Börsenblatt in being completed (light version). LouisAlain (talk) 20:30, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Teach French to recherche international? I need to take care of a FAC, and some articles in German, - perhaps win a few others to check out articles? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:00, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now, do you believe me when I tell you I'm bad at recherche... Which for, what I understand, can also be used in German. Unless it is some kind of Globish à la German. To any French native speaker, this looks suspicious though. You live, you learn. LouisAlain (talk) 21:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

?? The seamless robe is linked, only: the piece was composed for a pilgrimage to the Trier one (which is covered in German in great detail), not the general concept (which is covered in English with little detail). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:21, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
