Proposed deletion tags

Hello Marchjuly,

You wrote on my talk page:

>> WP:DECORATIVE non-free use in JoJo Siwa#Other ventures which fails WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. Despite the claim made in the non-free use rationale provided for this use, the single sentence about Siwa'a performance in the CBS Dick Van Dyke special doesn't require seeing this screenshot to be understood; so, the simple text description of the performance is more than sufficient per WP:FREER. Moreover, the screenshot itself isn't really the subject of any sourced critical commentary or otherwise significant to the reader's encyclopedic understanding of the relevant article content to the extent that not seeing the screenshot would be detrimental to that understand. Similar to films, screenshots for TV shows can be used when they are related to some technical, production, thematic, design, etc. aspect of the TV show that might be receiving coverage in reliable sources for one reason or another, but generally not to simply "show" someone performing in the show or some other plot aspect. A screenshot showing Siwa dancing doesn't really need to be seen by readers to understand that Siwa performed in the show, and it's hard to see how a low-resolution still image of one moment during her performance can portray the atmosphere of that performance to the reader. <<

(And you provided me with an identical paragraph pertaining to the Zachary Levi page.)

Considering your status as someone who Wikipedia administration assigns as an advisor, I'm not inclined to remove the proposed deletion tags which you placed on those image file captions.

In your paragraph above, you raise the following two issues:

1. The image file isn't "significant to the reader's encyclopedic understanding of the relevant article".

My response: The same can be said for every "free image" photo I've ever seen that has been placed on an article about a person.

2. .."it's hard to see how a low-resolution still image of one moment during her performance can portray the atmosphere of that performance"

My response: The atmosphere of the performances as captured by the still images jumps right out at me. More importantly, those images communicate the performers' aptitudes.

It's sad that the policies, as written, regarding fair-use non-free images have such a stifling effect on the content of an article. The Zachary Levi and JoJo Siwa images that are part of their respective articles are exactly what readers love to see. Those images are uplifting and make the reading of an article a greater pleasure. The main point of having an encyclopedia, as with anything, is enjoyment. The images in the articles of subject do not constitute anything false or misleading.

I hope you will remove the proposed deletion tags.

Freely licensed images and non-free images are not subject to the same policy so trying to compare the way such images can be used on Wikipedia is sort of like trying to compare an apple to an orange; they're similar in that they are both images and subject to
WT:NFCC. Either of those places is where you're going to find other Wikipedians familiar with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy, and if there's something faulty about my proposing the file's for deletion, one of them will almost certainly step in a de-prod the files.
Finally, the policy as written is what it is, and it's been that way for quite a long time. You can discuss the policy and propose changes if you feel it's too restrictive. The place to do so would be a WT:NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:57, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply

TeaHouse off topic conversation

Hi Marchjuly, I saw that discussion closed thing that you put on there. I tbh agree with u, there was some trolling going on in the conversation. I just wanted to help, and it said discussion closed before I got to it, I was trying to warn them about how the conversation was getting off topic and it was already closed by the time I got there. Hope u understand, Thanks! -Starixxgamerrix

The bold close of the discussion had nothing to do with what your or anyone else responding to the OP posted; it was entirely based on the posts of the OP since they were going nowhere and it didn't seem like the OP was going to stop anytime soon. If you want to continue the discussion and feel there's something to be gained by doing so, feel refer to revert the close. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To answer both you and @
Starixxgamerrix I’m not trolling and I hate therapy. I hate whenever my posts about genuine discussion are shut down and everything I say discarded as trolling. It’s happened to me many many times and I’m honestly sick of it. I’m not mad, just saying. WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 01:40, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply

Well.... I'm sorry, but the conversation was kinda getting off topic, and I was not the one who put the trolling thing. Why are we starting an argument about this, it was handled already. I don't want to get banned or Marchjuly or you, for fighting. It's one on Wikipedia's policies, I think.

If either you feel I acted out of order, you're free to continue this discussion at
WP:ANI. Other than that, please post nothing more about this here on my user talk page, unless you're notifying me of an ANI discussion as required. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:50, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply

I'm not being bothered you per se. It's just that there's nothing more I can add about this other than what I've posted above, and I want to avoid having my user talk page be filled up with posts like

Ok then tell me where else to go. I’m sick and tired of being banned from every place imaginable, I just want to participate like everyone else. And there’s nothing wrong with what you linked. My conversations are already being shut down left and right (”archiving is just locking and it’s making me mad) so I can tell I’m not welcome here, like everyone else…WhereverWeAreNow (talk) 03:13, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ShawnPatrickStarry (00:36, 10 April 2024)

How do I make a page on myself? --ShawnPatrickStarry (talk) 00:36, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
