Looking for Hindi Wikipedians

Hello Nearly Headless Nick!

I'm Maryana, a research fellow for the Wikimedia Foundation. I wanted to direct your attention to this -- a fellowship program I'm running this summer that seeks to pair graduate students working in the humanities with veteran Wikipedians from different language projects, with the goal of producing histories of non-English Wikipedia communities. One of our potential researchers speaks Hindi (and can read Urdu and Sanskrit), so I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'll know someone from hi.wiki who can be her guide to the community's history. If you or someone you know sounds like a good candidate for the job, please let me know! Also, she'll likely be in India this summer and is interested in meeting Wikipedians in Delhi, Jaipur, or anywhere in the northwestern part of the country. Do you happen to know any Wikipedians there or know of any upcoming meetups? (Or is all the action in Bangalore and Mumbai?)

You can email me at mpinchuk [at] wikimedia.org, or just play talk page tag :-) Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon! --

UK Supreme Court case drive

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to read this message.

As you may know, the

United Kingdom Supreme Court
has been hearing cases for about 18 months now, taking over from the House of Lords as the Court of Last Resort for most appeals within the United Kingdom.

During that time, the court has handed down 87 judgements (82 of which were on substantive appeals). Wikipedia covers around 11 of these and rarely in any detail. Some very important cases (including Radmacher v Granatino [2010] UKSC 42 (prenups) and Norris v USA [2010] UKSC 9 (extradition)) are not covered at all.

I'm proposing a drive to complete decent quality articles for all, or at least a good proportion of these cases as soon as possible. If we can eliminate the backlog then a small group of editors might want to stick around to ensure articles are created relatively speedily for new cases. Since the Court process, on average, one case a week this shouldn't be too great a task.

I'd like to ask you to help with this drive, and help make Wikipedia a credible source for UKSC case notes.

How you can help

  • Complete that template and add it to existing cases.
  • Improve formatting & prose. Copyediting.
  • Improve the coverage of cases we have articles on, including adding content, sourcing and fact-checking
  • Create new articles for UKSC cases
  • Improve the categorisation and listing of UKSC cases.

Thanks for reading!, Sincerely Bob House 884 (talk) 23:22, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing WikiAfrica to Wikimedia Kenya

Hi. I am glad to see that Kenya is starting a WikiMedia Chapter. I am running the WikiAfrica project on WIkipedia, and I wonder if you could give me the names of the members who are driving the bid to become a recognised Chapter? I would like to contact them and introduce them to WikiAfrica, and what we are trying to achieve. I think it would be beneficial to all of us if we could work together. I look forward to hearing from you. Islahaddow (talk) 11:10, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly shout out

First time commenter, long time stalker. I wanted to give you a friendly hello and a huge thanks! We anons appreciate (or are the unfortunate "martyr" of, depending on the intent of our contributions, ha ha ha ;D) all that you do. Please keep on being fantastic, and thanks for all the service you've given the wiki. Merry editing!155.8.89.2 (talk) 18:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at Skier Dude's talk page.

ISA edits

I think the page introduction shouldn't include the repeal of the said Act. That belongs to "history". After all : Pages should have a good but short introductory paragraph which includes the title in bold and explains in the a few sentences what the page is about. It will often be appropriate to include a link to a more general page and to a few more specific pages to help people navigate to the correct page.[1] Please correct me if I'm mistaken. Philipkhor (talk) 02:24, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the message, Philipkhor. The guideline which you have quoted is from Open Street Map and not the English Wikipedia. Since the news is very substantive, with respect to the topic on which the article is written, it is appropriate that it be presented in the lead section. — Nearly Headless Nick {C} 10:39, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Understood. Philipkhor (talk) 09:11, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

[email protected]

Thank you for your time!

Victor

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Norwegian butter crisis, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Staple (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Khalistan

  • I believe that Sikhism and Khalistan is intertwined, it is a form of ethnic nationalism, it does not mean that all believers in Sikhism subscribe to Khalistan/Sikh nationalism. I think it would be better to form consensus on the talk page before making major changes to the article, like all the previous editors have done so before. Thank you for the message, Gsingh. I am happy to initiate a thread on the talk page of the article. — Nearly Headless Nick {C} 20:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not making a judgment call here as I have not seen the content posted yet. Also, I am unlikely to object to the content posted in your own user space. However, it is possible that some other users may have issues the pages if they believe that they contravene policy. — Nearly Headless Nick {C} 13:50, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No content has been posted. I have changed my mind (partly due to laziness, and partly to do with paranoia). Thanks for giving me the time of day, I really appreciate it.
