Romanization for words of English origin

On the

here
).

Over the course of a month, it has become apparent that both the parties proposing to include or not include those romanizations cannot be convinced by the arguments or guidelines brought up by the other side. Therefore, a compromise is trying to be found that will satisfy both parties.

One suggestion
on a compromise has been given already, but it has not found unanimous agreement, so additional compromises are encouraged to be suggested.

One universally accepted point was to bring more users from the affected projects in to help achieve consensus, and you were one of those

selected
in the process.

What this invitation is:

  • You should give feedback on the first suggested compromise and are highly encouraged to provide other solutions.

What this invitation is not:

  • This is not a vote on including or excluding such romanizations.
  • This is not a vote on compromises either.

It would be highly appreciated if you came over to the

MOS:JP talk page and helped find a solution. Thank you in advance. Prime Blue (talk) 11:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on March 1, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/March 1, 2011. Template

The only reason things should be broken is if a page uses those reviews. That they use them is no excuse to keep the status quo. There is a way to add a depracation, but I'm not sure how to do it. The bottom line though is that coding should be gone because this timeplate is suppose to only house reliable sources because its used on article [ages as a reliable review summary.

Request, or favor, or however you want to put it

Good evening good sir. I have a favor to ask. I am in the midst of re-vamping the article hitting for the cycle, in part splitting out the list of MLB players to its own list in order to make an actual article on the cycle proper. I want this cycle article to include something of a world view instead of just MLB. I know that you are the resident NPB expert, and I have been trying to find information on NPB players to hit for the cycle. I just don't know where to find source info, and I figured you might know better than I. The most recent cycle I found was Julio Zuleta's on September 23, 2007. Are there any more recent, and are there sources? Would you mind just helping me out in finding some of that info (if you can)? Let me know on my talk page. If you want to view the current draft, it is here. Thank you in advance! — KV5Talk • 01:33, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at Killervogel5's talk page.KV5Talk • 00:24, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see your cycle list. Coming along well. I've completed my work and moved my pages into the mainspace. When you complete your list of NPB cycles, please add it to the "see also" section and the hatnote of Hitting for the cycle. It would also really be great if you would add some info about the players to do unique things with cycles, especially those who have hit multiples. Cheers! — KV5Talk • 13:48, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, yes, yes! Wonderful work. That adds so much to the article. I'm really tickled at how well this is coming along. — KV5Talk • 11:06, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have you thought about taking the NPB cycle list to

WP:FLC? It would only need a few tweaks to get there. You definitely have some good pictures to choose from. I'd be willing to help with the prep work if you like. — KV5Talk • 23:35, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply
]

I've been thinking of taking the article Hitting for the cycle to GA. You certainly deserve credit for all the NPB work you put in. If the NPB list goes through FLC, we'd have a nice, compact featured topic candidate. If you don't want to do the FLC work, let me know because I would be happy to take it through the paces, with your leave of course. — KV5Talk • 13:13, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would love to make the NPB a FL, but unfortunately I'm a bit worried about the quality of the sources. Since the cycle is a fairly new idea for the NPB, they don't really have any official lists on their site. I'm confident all of my info in that article is accurate, but the source to back it up may not be up to snuff. Feel free to take a look though and tell me what you think. I could try to find a few more reliable sources in the meantime. --TorsodogTalk 20:14, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see what you mean. That source doesn't really have any backup for its data. Not saying that it's incorrect, but I see that you maybe wouldn't want to take that to FLC. Is there an equivalent of Retrosheet for Japanese baseball, that you could look up the box scores? — KV5Talk • 20:19, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, first of all I just wanted to thank you for all the great work you have done of the Japanese baseball pages. I`m just starting on Wikipedia and have been doing a little work on the Yokohama DeNA BayStars page. I noticed that the uniform graphic for the is out of date. "legume-like"

Your reversion of my editing out the words "legume-like" in the description of the Cloud Gate sculpture is counterproductive. In this instance "legume" is not descriptive of a bean shape as you so earnestly desire. Legumes comprise one of the largest families of flowering plants, numbering some 400 genera and 10,000 species. Alfalfa, clover, peas, beans, lentils, soybeans, peanuts, wisteria vines and locust trees are among the family. To quote Wikipedia itself, "A legume (/ˈlɛɡjuːm/ or /ˌləˈɡjuːm/) is a plant in the family Fabaceae (or Leguminosae), or the fruit or seed of such a plant."

While a limited world view might associate legumes only with beans, this is patently not the case. Does "the bean" resemble anything other than a bean? It's called "the bean" because of its bean-like shape, if anything. But why "bean-like" shape? It's called the bean because of its shape. Imho, adding superfluous (and especially erroneous) explanation to a simple statement needlessly complicates the matter. Nickrz (talk) 17:40, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The

If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! DYK for 2004 Nippon Professional Baseball realignment

On 5 March 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2004 Nippon Professional Baseball realignment, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the only player strike in Japanese professional baseball history occurred during the 2004 Nippon Professional Baseball realignment and lasted for two days? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2004 Nippon Professional Baseball realignment. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 2004 Nippon Professional Baseball realignment), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Kevin's Picture

I think we should change the head picture to the famous pic of Kevin spilling the pot of chili. It is what he is best known for and I think it will draw more attention to the page. Not everyone recognizes Kevin just by face recognition, but anyone would if it was the chili picture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kathynav1234 (talkcontribs) 14:09, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Interleague play (NPB)

On 19 October 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Interleague play (NPB), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that out of the thirteen Nippon Professional Baseball seasons that have included interleague play, the Pacific League has beaten the Central League in all but one? Hitting for the cycle

Hi - a quick note in follow-up to the revert of edits to Hitting for the cycle, as I would like to re-edit in a manner that will be more acceptable. You had noted "removing non from lead, changing the definition of a hit single, removing inline refs" and I wanted to get brief clarification on those:

  • Did you perhaps mean NPB in lead? I'm concerned that the NPB info on the page is quite stale, so wanted to group it in one place and flag it as needing an update.
  • I had removed the quote of Rule 6.09(a), which is about the batter becoming a runner... should that be left in? I ask because I felt it was off-target; otherwise, I don't think my edit changed the definition of a single (or if it did, it wasn't intentional).
  • I'll be more careful about updating rather than remove inlines.

Any input appreciated, as I would like to continue to improve the page. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk)

Surely you wouldn't actually editwar over this stuff? Please see

You're not giving the impression that you're working in good faith with this sort of response. The fact that you'd help needed: Momoiro Clover Z already been participating in the WP:JAPAN discussion shows you were fully aware of how controversial your edits were, which makes your editwarring that much more incriminating. Curly "JFC" Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 23:16, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Incriminating of what? I'm interested in adding facts to articles. Perhaps you should be as well? --TorsodogTalk 23:21, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you should stop feigning innocence. You're perfectly well aware of the multiple discussions going on about this material. Curly "JFC" Turkey 🍁 ¡gobble! 23:54, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realize that the discussion was literally about not being able to add anymore information about it. I agree it shouldn't be in the lead or even maybe in it's own section, but to literally not be able to explain the situation at all? No, that wasn't discussed nor was I "perfectly aware". Stop assuming bad faith. --TorsodogTalk 00:10, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!

NPB Colouring

Hi there, I think you've played around with the NPB colouring. It has upset the templates because now text is white against white. Could you please fix this? I don't have the confidence to do it myself. This is mainly for the Template:Chunichi Dragons roster navbox and other Dragons related boxes I've created. I'd also like to add that the new colour scheme looks very iffy on player pages too.Cynikles (talk) 23:28, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't really upset the template, I just inverted the colors. If you don't like it though, I can change it. --TorsodogTalk 01:38, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Portland Mavericks

This is vandalism of the legitimate page of the Portland Mavericks for an unknown individual's use as a promo to trade on the legitimate professional ball club's history to promote a fake adult amateur baseball league. It makes no difference whatsoever if an opportunistic party "copyrighted" the name Portland Mavericks. They may not tie their copyright to the players and staff of the actual Portland Mavericks who existed only from 1973-1977. This is misrepresentation of the facts, used for crass commercial purposes. For the record, the Portland Mavericks were a team owned By Bing & Kurt Russell. That team ceased to exist after the 1977 season. No individual can warrant or represent that a fictitious team (who exist on social media only) said to be based in Keizer, Oregon, has any connection to the actual Portland, Mavericks whose history of ownership and dissolution is well documented both in legitimate press sources as well as a documentary made by the Russell family seen at the Sundance Film Festival and on Netflix.

Previous comment by BINGRUSSELL, I'm hoping that a bot will stop by and insert proper signature.
You'll probably see the ping, Torsodog, but for the record, I’ve started a section at Talk:Portland Mavericks. I stumbled across the edit in Recent Changes. Pelagicmessages ) – (23:35 Sun 25, AEDT) 12:35, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please be aware that your signature uses deprecated <font> tags, which are causing

WP:SIGFONT
:

<font>...</font> tags were deprecated in
HTML4 and are entirely obsolete in HTML5. This means that the popular browsers may drop support for them at some point. Wikipedia is already preparing for this by delinting code project-wide through Linter
. When support finally is dropped, the tags will be ignored in all signatures; any properties such as color and font family will revert to their default values. For this reason, it is recommended that you use <span>...</span> tags and CSS properties instead.

I have prepared a replacement signature string for you. You are encouraged to change

Note that this would also work:

Hi, I see you reverted my changes to this template citing that it broke the infobox. Could you direct me to the page where you encountered this bug, so that I can work to resolve it? Thanks! –Aidan721 (talk) 14:00, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Almost every Climax Series page was broken because of the change. I didn't look hard into what you did because you changed a lot but whatever you did, it broke most of infoboxes. --TorsodogTalk 17:12, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
