New article to create for you

Hi @Xexerss, there is new article to create about a manga serialized in Young Champion from 2006 to 2011 which also has three other manga series, can you create it? It's Tōhai by Kōji Shinasaka. It also has an article in Japanese: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/凍牌

Thanks. Tebus19 (talk) 16:25, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I'll be able to create it right now. The series may be notable, but I couldn't find enough coverage by doing a quick search, and the Japanese article mostly cites primary sources. Xexerss (talk) 17:28, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xexerss, so you will create it in the future? Tebus19 (talk) 17:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I'm able to find more secondary sources, yes. I'm just not focused on creating articles right now, so I'll consider it later. Xexerss (talk) 18:19, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Xexerss, did you find more secondary sources about the series? Tebus19 (talk) 17:45, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New article to create for you

Hi @Xexerss, there is a new article to create titled New Lone Wolf & Cub, it is a sequel series to the Lone Wolf and Cub, which serialized in Weekly Post from 2006 to 2008 and licensed by Dark Horse Comics, can you create it?

Also, the manga has another sequel called Soshite Kozure Ōkami: Shikaku no Ko, that I don't know if it is notable or not. M.A.LasTroniN910t@lk 05:13, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@M.A.LasTroniN910: Doing a quick search, I found some coverage, so I'll consider it, but I don't think that I'll create it within the next days, maybe in another week or so. I think that the other series should be included in that same article. Xexerss (talk) 05:28, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Xexerss, need to separate the episodes for Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy as its own article. I'm afraid that the main page may be overloaded with the episodic content. KANLen09 (talk) 15:36, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Although I admit that I myself have done splits for tables with the same amount of episodes before,
WP:OTHERCONTENT is not an argument, I suppose that there are no issues with it right now. In any case, the 'Post-expand include size' of the article is currently at 407,735/2,097,152 bytes, so the table is not a problem right now (perhaps someone will do the split later on anyway, but I have to decline for now). Mob Psycho 100 drama CD

Hi there! Thanks for all your hard work on anime/manga articles (and fixing my bad citations...). I was thinking of adding the tracklist for the MP100 drama CD that I added to the article, so I'll probably make that edit later tonight. There's a pretty popular fan-sub of the CD on Youtube, but I'm not sure if I should cite it/add it to the article since it's not official. Thoughts? Dognamedguinefort (talk) 20:09, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dognamedguinefort: Hi. As far as I've seen, articles tend to include the tracklist of the series' soundtrack (e.g. in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba or Berserk (1997 TV series)), but I don't know of cases where the tracks from the drama CD are included (I don't think there is something that prohibits it though). In any case, the CD is assumed to be the primary source and doesn't usually require citations. Xexerss (talk) 20:22, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit in Delicious in Dungeon

Hi. You have reverted an edit of mine in the Delicious in Dungeon and removed a website and added another reference to a different paragraph. However, the location and the new reference do not really support the reason behind my edit (which I summarized as "a reference to the old d&d similarity"). If you go through the history of the article, you can see that the reference to the Dungeons and Dragons go way back. The text used to refer to AD&D at some point, because AD&D placed a more significant role to the tracking of supplies and equipment. Over the years the text got modified and ended up with its current form.

Since the description of the plot is not sourced, from the above mentioned history, it looks like it has been written casually by multiple wikipedia contributors over the years . This was not something I liked, so I wanted to find whether there are indeed sources that explicitly related the subject matter to "old versions of D&D". (A borderline case of WP:NOR: Who states that the subject matter is similar to the old versions of a particular game?). I agree that Kotaku is a much better source with a long history (and corresponding notability), but it is also not a book, academic article or newspaper, it is still a web blog. And it does not really address the weakness in the article that I was trying to address. Erkcan (talk) 13:29, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@
WP:VG/S. Now, to be frank, I'm not sure about the reliability of The Nerd Stash. I couldn't find any precedent or discussions about the reliablity of the site, so I propose rephrasing the sentence (perhaps without necessarily mentioning the "old D&D" part) or discussing whether it's fine or not to cite The Nerd Stash. Xexerss (talk) 14:01, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply
]
The statement that the subject material is quite similar to old D&D is actually apparent to me as well, but my personal opinion does not matter. There are discussions on reddit which also mention the same opinion (ex: [1]), as well as other blogs (ex: [2]), so it seems like the statement about the similarity is not a matter of opinion of a single person or two. Would it be reasonable to cite the Kotaku article together with the one from The Nerd Stash? Alternatively, we can remove the D&D related phrase altogether. Erkcan (talk) 16:31, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Erkcan: It's fine with me if it's completely removed. It's not a comparison that affects the plot itself to begin with. Xexerss (talk) 22:01, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Cheers. Erkcan (talk) 07:20, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kurapika

Made an article for Kurapika. Still has far more potential considering the character plays a major role in the first movie (which I gotta first watch to edit that) but I couldn't find any google scholar article that heavily discusses the character even though I've seen some Hunter X Hunter essays focused on the androgynous aspect and personality of some characters. For the image I simply cut the silhoutte from a volume cover since it had the chains and red eyes but maybe the image could be better edited. Feel free to edit anything. A new section in info box for new seasons that have new name

Hello, As far as I know if a season of anime has name for it self, whether it's a letter like "S" or a word like "Alicization" (SAO) or even something like "2nd attack" which is something like 2nd season but a little different (anime studios like to play with words :D) will have its own section in info box. Also I found this article to back it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_animanga#Usage

I also asked this from other editors some time ago and the thing I found out is that sometimes we have exception but overall this is correct.

Now the problem that I have is that an editor has a different idea about this and they are backing their opinion by providing some other articles that probably should have a new section for their new seasons and don't for whatever reasons and because of this they say Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki should also follow them in this matter. I mean this doesn't even make any sense. First of all there are no rules that says every article should be a copy/paste from one another and second of all just because some editors didn't care to add a new section it doesn't mean we should use those articles as a model am I correct? We also shouldn't forget about the exception part I mentioned.

Anyway you can clearly see what I'm saying by checking this: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bottom-tier_Character_Tomozaki&action=history Can you please tell me your opinion in here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bottom-tier_Character_Tomozaki

I genuinely want to know your opinion on this matter.Parham.es(talk) 18:15, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Parham.es: Honestly, it is not very clear to me what the criteria is for knowing when to separate the components or leave it as one. In my opinion, if there are no substantial differences in the production and staff of each series (or season, whatever one may want to call it), and there is not a considerable distance of time between each one (i.e. more than four years), I generally would advocate leaving it as one component, regardless of the title. I'm not sure if there is a universal approach for this though. For example, an editor considered that the the two seasons of Black Lagoon (TV series) should have been combined as one component. In the Kaguya-sama: Love Is War (TV series) article the subtitles were placed at top. Perhaps the latter option would be reasonable for the Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki article, but that's just what I think. Xexerss (talk) 19:01, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, Kaguya-sama is actually a good way to handle this, because as I said in the talk page of Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki article I am kinda on the same page with the other editor since they made a valid point about information being repetitive, Alright then, will go with Kaguya-sama's style.
Thanks for the help, it's always appreciated. Parham.es (talk) 19:08, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to say that I might not even use Kaguya-sama's style since we just have a season 2 right now and it might confuse some people that this section of infobox is just for Season 2 and season 1 doesn't have any, so I'll wait for a season 3 for this specially since the name of the season 2 is so close to being 2nd season. Parham.es (talk) 19:21, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It sounds fine to me. Xexerss (talk) 19:23, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SimonLagann: Hi. I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in creating articles for the time being and I can't promise that I'll create it in the short term. Awards

I was curious about it. Should the awards from anime news network and animetrending also be mentioned? The first I used in an article was one Askeladd won in 2019 which helped backup his notability . Same with 2023 Thorfinn. While I'm not sure about animetrending, I have Ishiguro talking about it Last weekend when Heavenly Delusion won anime of the year. You find them worth it? Cheers. Tintor2 (talk) 16:30, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2: I think it is. I recall that the site was discussed a couple of times previously. The awards have been mentioned by Anime News Network and the site has been cited by them multiple times as well. Anitrendz have their own editorial team and have conducted several interviews with key figures in the field. I at least consider that they are a reliable source and the awards warrant notability. Xexerss (talk) 16:48, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. What about listing the awards from the anime news network editors? At least I use them plus the commentary like with Frieren's title character which is also kinda new Tintor2 (talk) 17:19, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Stone - Dr. STONE

Hi, I think that the stylized logo of Dr. Stone should be Dr. STONE, because even if it looks like "Dr.STONE", if official sites like Manga Plus and Crunchyroll write "Dr. STONE" it means that it's supposed to be written like that. Why should a simplified logo mean more than an official title? Fleyzk (talk) 14:02, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fleyzk: But stylization refers to how the logo appears on the volumes of the series, not how certain platforms write the title. That's why in articles such as One Piece or Bleach (manga) stylization is denoted by "stylized in all caps". Also, stylization is usually denoted only when the series' title is rendered in Latin script in the original language (Japanese), so, in this case, it makes more sense to follow this instead of following the stylization used on some platforms. @Parham.es: Yes. That was the consensus of Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (television)#Follow-up RfC on TV season article titles. Xexerss (talk) 18:49, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Revert

Hey, wanted to respond to some points in your revert message on the Medalist (manga) page since it seems there's some misunderstanding.

You said "PV has not premiered yet" – but this is incorrect, because it had. I added it shortly after the premiere at 11 p.m. JST that day; the video was live and publicly viewable, and not region locked to Japan or anything like that. It also had official English subtitles and title metadata set by the studio, which were also viewable at that time. As a result, I honestly don't know what you're talking about or what this message means.

You also wrote that "the video is from a Japanese account, not an English one" – yes, because this is a Japanese show produced by a Japanese studio. Is that surprising…? And what's the issue? It's not likely that any English-language license will be announced in the near future, thus most sources regarding the show are going to be in Japanese. The source language of a reference has no bearing on its ability to be used in a Wikipedia article and, in fact, one should pretty obviously expect most sources about a show from Japan to be in Japanese, especially when it's nearly a year away from airing. –Fpmfpm (talk) 11:35, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fpmfpm: 1) When you added the citation the video was not available for viewing yet. 2) In the 'language' parameter you added that it was in English, when obviously it was not. Xexerss (talk) 21:00, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1) Yes it was.
2) I guess the citation tool got that one wrong and I didn't catch it. Would have been easier for you to simply fix it rather than remove it entirely!
Re: your edit message "Are you planning to post here every time a trailer is uploaded before the series is released?" – No, and why would you assume this? I think it's worth mentioning the first-ever trailer's release, nothing more. This is also done on many, many other anime-related articles (both shows and films – which your userpage says you're well-versed in editing, so I'd expect you to know this too. Here are some examples:
Laid-Back Camp (season 1), Shirobako: The Movie, Suzume, Onyx Equinox, The First Slam Dunk, Fruits Basket: Prelude, Devil May Cry (TV series), Sarazanmai, Exception (TV series), Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. Happy to provide more if needed! As a result, I'll plan to add this back into the article shortly unless you still have objections. –Fpmfpm (talk) 12:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply

@
WP:OTHERCONTENT. I at least don't see the encyclopedic value of simply mentioning the date when the trailer was posted (I think that the information provided by the trailer is more relevant than the trailer itself). It doesn't seem such a significant event compared to the other content mentioned in anime section (for the Medalist article at least). Xexerss (talk) 12:28, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply
]
I'm aware there doesn't need to be consistency between articles, but there is a reason dozens and dozens of other editors have all come to the same conclusion that the information about a first-look teaser is often worth mentioning due to what it signals in a show's development timeline. I do understand where you're coming from, and think that it'd be helpful if you could try to understand why so many people view it as natural to include in articles like this as well. I agree – sure, I think we can say that the cast list, staff information, and exact on-air date were also revealed on that day, because along with the trailer's premiere revealing loads of new information, the official website was updated at the same time, and now today a second key visual has been released as well.
It's worth preserving that this is all happening now, in early 2024. Shouldn't the article aim to give people some sense of this production timeline, not just… serialization started in 2020, and then… boom, out of nowhere, the show premieres in 2025? It's natural to wonder: what happened in between, and when? (I just realized that the article doesn't even mention when the anime adaptation was announced, which should also be fixed, IMO.) The flurry of activity recently – fronted by the first-ever trailer releasing, letting people finally see the manga in a near-final animated form, full-color, with music and all – is a critical, key time in the show's development/production. If we're aiming to keep the article and that section comprehensive, it should be (briefly) mentioned, not overlooked completely or intentionally avoided. –Fpmfpm (talk) 12:52, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fpmfpm: What do you mean with "the article doesn't even mention when the anime adaptation was announced"? The article literally has the sentence "An anime television series adaptation was announced on May 18, 2023"; isn't that enough? Most (if not all) TV series release trailers, key visuals and such to make themselves known to the audience, but I ask what is the point here of just mentioning the date a trailer was posted? What would our readers miss by not knowing this event? Xexerss (talk) 13:04, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see, my point is that I can see the relevance of mentioning when the announcement of an adaptation is made (for the mere fact that receiving an adaptation is something noteworthy), the staff (mainly to support the information that appears in the infobox), and the premiere/airing dates (likewise, for the infobox and for the eventual creation of episode list sections/articles). I don't see, however, the relevance of just mentioning the dates, without further context, when a trailer (or a key visual or similar) of a series is released. It's not that I'm strongly opposed to mentioning the event, it's just that I don't understand its relevance for the article and what is the encyclopedic contribution that it provides. It's also worth mentioning
WP:NOTNEWS, and therefore, it's not like we have to mention every event related to the anime release to "give people some sense of this production timeline". Xexerss (talk) 14:11, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply

OK. You clearly care about this a ton more than I do for this one single article, for some reason, so we can do it your way; I'm too lazy to keep arguing. I'm sure it'll get added in by someone else at some later point who hasn't had to deal with all of this, and you can keep being a cop to watch out for that. Take care. –Fpmfpm (talk) 00:37, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fpmfpm: Sorry, but you were the only one who came all the way to my talk page for this whole thing instead of moving on, and I'm just explaining my reasons for removing what you added. You can think whatever you want about me for that. Xexerss (talk) 00:49, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Non-English anime licensee

This wiki doesn't have the template about Non-English anime licensee since not every anime can be license to the English anime licensee such as Crunchyroll, especially to the Asian markets where English wasn't their main language. (Crunchyroll did have English dubbing for some of their anime that was carried by another licensee in the Asian markets, such as Muse Communication and Medialink) VernardoLau (talk) 06:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@VernardoLau: Hi. Sorry, but I don't quite understand your point. From what I understand, Medialink and Muse Asia have licensed a number of titles for English-speaking territories in Asia (there are English-speaking territories in South Asia and Southeast Asia, as you can see in their articles). I assume that when Medialink or Muse Asia post in English on their social networks that certain titles have been acquired it is because they are intended to be distributed for English-speaking audiences in the English-speaking territories where these companies operate. However, seeing that the Instagram publications regarding Muse Asia's distribution of Undead Unluck was only posted in Chinese, it seems unlikely that the acquisition is intended for English-speaking audiences. From what I understand, English is not officially spoken in Taiwan, and although Hong Kong does have a significant portion of the population that speaks English, just judging by the publication alone, it doesn't seem that the series' acquisition is intended for English-speaking audiences in those countries. Templates and their rules

Hello, As far as I understand each template has its own rules which means another template rule is not applicable for another (kinda). The reason why I brought this up is because I've seen in some article, Spy × Family (TV series) for example that some editors keep deleting the last_aired date of the anime even though it is ended and insist that based on Template:Infobox television's rules "Set the last episode date as the "last_aired" date only if there is no announcement for 12 months". My problem is that we are not even using Template:Infobox television for animes but using Template:Infobox animanga/Video which doesn't have such a rule and as far as I know the reason we have different templates for different subjects and stuff (well one of the reasons) is because of different situation they can have, for example everyone knows that animes are always ended unless they announce something, every single season counts as the last one, unless they announce two or more seasons before hand. So because of this I assume they didn't include the 12 months rules in Template:Infobox animanga/Video because anime simply doesn't work like normal TV series does. As you can see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spy_%C3%97_Family_(TV_series)&action=history I changed this twice and both times was done by two different editors in this article, but I really wonder am I even right about this? honestly using another template's rules doesn't make sense to me, we do have another template for animes for a reason! Parham.es (talk) 19:07, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Parham.es: If the article is using Template:Infobox animanga/Video, I don't see what Template:Infobox television has to do with it. If an editor has a problem with that, then they should start a discussion and not make those changes just like that. If there is no kind of announcement implying that a series is going to continue, I don't see any reason why we should say otherwise in the article. Xexerss (talk) 19:17, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Xexerss,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Isekai

Why it doesn't require italics while yuri, yaoi, yakuza etc. do? Fleyzk (talk) 20:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:FOREIGN#Terms with common usage in English. Leaving aside the fact that the yakuza article uses italics in specific parts, the other terms don't have common usage in English. Note that the term isekai is included in the Oxford English Dictionary.[4] Xexerss (talk) 20:40, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply

Incomplete sentence on Dragon Ball manga page

Hi Xexerss, you reverted an edit I made on the Dragon Ball manga page and I wanted some clarification.

The original two sentences: "Although he suspected the fighting genre would appeal more to its shōnen audience, Toriyama tried to stick to the Journey to the West adventure aspect which he himself enjoyed. Such as having the setting change each chapter, different enemies popping up, and different locations."

It seems like in starting the sentence with "Such as" is impromper and an incomplete sentence, no? It seemed clunky/wrong when I was reading through the article and so I attempted a fix. If my fix wasn't up-to-code, that's fine, but it still doesn't seem right. I was also thinking of just changing the period to a comma and making it one longer sentence - even that litte change seems better than the original. Thoughts? Pac12dan (talk) 17:38, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

assume good faith in your edit nonetheless, so feel free to reword the sentence again, but please try to be thorough with the way you rewrite it. Xexerss (talk) 17:58, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply

I agree, upon reading it back I don't think my edit was an improvement. If I come up with something I'll have another go. Appreciate the feedback! Pac12dan (talk) 18:16, 7 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted?

Hello @Xexerss, you have reverted changes i made adding some wikis to external links without any explanation as to why, so i would like to humbly ask why this was reverted, keeping in mind i'm not used to all the rules yet. It was my understanding that such links were welcome, see for example the wookiepedia link on star wars or the memory alpha one on star trek. Thank you very much. Alright i had not clicked on WP:ELNO, i gave it a good read, thank you.
If i understand correctly the links i have put to open wikis would be fine in the future once they have a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors, which isn't currently the case? TheBookfinder (talk) 20:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New article to create for you (my last request)

Hi @Xexerss, there is a new article to create about a manga series by Shiro (same author as Encouragement of Climb) serialized in Young King OURs since 2019 with a live-action TV drama adaptation, can you create it? It's Camera, Hajimete mo Ii Desu ka?.

Thanks. Tebus19 (talk) 21:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
