Which version

Can we figure out which specific version of the iPod artcle that is in the picture from the donation bar? Pretty cool that they didn't remove that from the screenshot too. PaulC/T+ 06:17, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Orphaned fairuse" tag

Sorry for my error in not getting rationale in for removing the "Orphaned fairuse" tag in my last edit. I removed the tag because the image is being used in the iPhone article, and because the fair use rationale was already given in the summary. Either of those reasons is sufficient for removing the tag, IMHO. Lorem Ipsum, 22:01 11 January 2007

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.

The result was to delete the image.

Failed fair use

Delete - Product has been released for viewing to the public and has been photographed many times by both the general public and online/print media publications. This is very evident if you look at the amount of images of the product on flickr. Roguegeek (talk) 15:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

People, how hard is this to understand. If a free use image exists, it must be used in place of a fair use image. Roguegeek (talk) 23:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Do you know of an equivalent free use image that shows the iPhone's web browser? If one exists, it should be used, but as far as I know, there are none (yet) on Wikipedia. Lorem Ipsum (talk) 23:33, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, this image should stay until a comparable free image can be found. Sfacets 02:13, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that you editors are putting in a minimal amount of work to replace this image should show how much you want only this image to be used. Look on flickr. There are tons of images on there that show the browser and most of them are completely free use. I've already uploaded several images from there today to replace both iPhone and Apple TV images. How about you guys try the same. Even if you don't this image is still going to be failed by an admin and get deleted so you'll only be helping by finding a free use image. Roguegeek (talk) 02:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A minimal amount of effort? Hey if you can find a free image that matches this one, then feel free to add it.I haven't been able to , despite searching for one. Sfacets 02:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you under the impression that the images on flickr are necessarily free in the sense of being under a copyleft license? I get the impression after a brief tour of their policy that the individual photographers still hold the copyright and must be contacted for usage of their photos. See http://www.flickr.com/help/general/#147. If it can be proven otherwise I have a photo to replace this and will do so otherwise its just another fair use photo. phatom87 (talk contribs count) 02:59, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's dependent on what license tags are applied to the image. Some are free use. Some are not and need permission beyond a simple attribution. Most flickr users are good enough to simply place images up for free use. Roguegeek (talk) 03:06, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The first one I found was under copyright. I found second that has been released under the conditions that it be used unaltered for non-commercial purposes. Attribution is required and is part of the photo in form the photographers name on the lower left hand corner. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/hermosawave/352263076/. I cann't find any under free license though. Phatom87 (talk · contribs · count) 03:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The iPhone is a product that has only just been announced, and it is nowhere near release. The only photos of it are (I would guess) pre-release publicity photos from Apple used specifically to publicise the phone. No-one outside of Apple has ever held the iPhone and so is unable to photograph it. Also the screenshot on the Phone is of this website and includes a PD photo of the iPods, so there shouldn't be any license problems with the "photo in the photo". Umm, have you seen the amount of photos that exists of the thing and how many people are still taking photos of it? You're telling me not a single free use image of the subject exists? I find that extremely hard to believe. Roguegeek (talk) 15:58, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A free use image now exists of this subject. Roguegeek (talk) 16:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed thanks for finding this seems fit the critia needed. Obviously if a free use version exist that must be used in preference to a fair use image. I will get the article updated looks like its even same page. Hopeful we don't have any strong objections. I won't get into an edit war over this but it needs to be done.Phatom87 02:53, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well no surprise that's taken care already. Thanks for the help. —The preceding
