How to use this page

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Making a request

Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.

In particular, eligible editors can use

the Wikipedia Library
, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.

  • Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
  • Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
  • Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests, in full or in part. When fulfilling a part of a request, tell others which one so that they don't have to do the same work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{u|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
Copyright tips
  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Limit sharing content online that the copyright holders have restricted access to to the minimum level: only to the individuals who need it, only to the minimal degree necessary to fulfil the request and only to improve Wikipedia. We share content under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose to improve our articles or create new ones.
  • Whenever possible, share copies privately. You should not upload copyrighted copies from print publications or online databases for unrestricted distribution via open websites.
  • Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks. Check the laws of your jurisdiction to make sure you are comfortable and safe giving access to it.

Multiple fossil cat-related requests

These are a series of scientific articles I am unable to access online. I have checked the Wikipedia Library as well as Google Scholar. Most of these are unlikely to be in English. Two of them (the ones by Bakr) I suspect are rare outside of Pakistan.

@SilverTiger12, Are you sure about the publication information you cite for number 6? I'm looking at what I think is volume one issue 4 and just can't find that article. Also the link you provide is to a november issue, issue 4 is from April. Eddie891 Talk Work 19:53, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, no, I'm not certain about the publication information; I tracked it down as a potential source second or third-hand a while ago. Doing a search again, I can't track down where the issue 4 part came from, just that it is in volume 1. My apologies. SilverTiger12 (talk) 21:15, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SilverTiger12: Please clarify what portions of this request are complete and what portions are still outstanding. The tradition method is to strike the list items that you no longer need. Next week I'll be at a library that has 3, 4, and 6, but am reluctant to spend my limited time there scanning hundreds of pages if you may not still need them. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:34, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Worldbruce: I have done so. Only 3, 5, and 6 are still needed. Unfortunately I don't think I can narrow down the needed page ranges in 3 and 6. Although for 3 the most needed part is the section on felids (cats), Miomachairodus in specific, if you only have limited time. And for 6, close to the same: section on felids, Epimachairodus zwierzykii in specific. Happy editing, SilverTiger12 (talk) 19:43, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Let me know you think if it would be useful for me to request an interlibrary loan (which can be physical or digital) for chapter 105 of "Proceedings of Fourth Pakistan Congress of Zoology" through my university. The second WorldCat link says that University of Minnesota, Twin Cities has a copy, and both it and my university are in the Big Ten Academic Alliance, so it should be more likely to be accepted and should be processed faster, compared to it being at some unaffiliated institution.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 02:15, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A lead! Thank you! I've had a hard enough time finding this source to say yes, please request the interlibrary loan. I think that might actually be what I'm looking for. Happy editing, SilverTiger12 (talk) 18:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

105. On a Collection of Siwalik Carnivora
Abu Bakr
Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab, Lahore

In the Department of Zoology, Punjab University, the total number of the speciments of fossil Carnivora is eighteen. More collection was made last year. The total number of species that discovered is sixteen. Of these four i.e. Vishnucyon nagriensis, Sivaonyx minor, Lycaena felina and Panthera dhokpathanensis are new. The other speciments also given additional information about the known species. The work has been carried out under Pakistan Foundation, Project No. P-PU/Bio (102).

— p. 51
This is page 51, and https://search.worldcat.org/title/62447645 says the book is 51 pages in total, so this is presumably the last page, so that's it.

Hm, so I'm still looking for the monograph itself. Thank you though. SilverTiger12 (talk) 21:57, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right, hmm... Should I try requesting an inter-library loan and see if my university's librarians can figure something out, perhaps borrowing it or getting a scan from the National Library of Pakistan? Solomon Ucko (talk) 01:08, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a long shot, but I'd appreciate it. SilverTiger12 (talk) 01:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. I've submitted a request for it. I'll let you know when I get any updates. I'm required to give a deadline, so I gave them about 6 months, since this could be slow. Solomon Ucko (talk) 07:01, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To editor SilverTiger12: Issues of De Ingenieur in Nederlandsch Indie are readable here. I didn't find that article, though I didn't look very hard. Maybe that collection is incomplete or maybe the volume or issue is wrong. Alas there is no search engine. Zerotalk 02:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1906 article in Arts and Crafts

For Herbert Maryon

According to the below article, The March number of "Arts and Crafts" is, as usual, full of articles which are intended to provide students and art workers with useful information on a variety of subjects in which they are interested. The most important of these articles are "Various Methods of Finishing Oak," by Mr. W. Daniell; "Metal Work," by Mr. H. J. Maryon; "Practical Talks about Wood-Carving," by Mr. H. Turner; "Inlaying," by Mr. A[rthur] C[awdron] Horth; and "Bookbinding," by Mr. F. Sangorski and Mr. G. Sutcliffe. Among the more notable illustrations are reproductions of drawings by Henner, E. Detaille, and Feyen Perrin.

The starting point is to figure out what journal this is—a task not helped by its generic name. There's a good chance that this is a small journal that didn't last long. The article would be Maryon's second published work that I'm aware of, five months after "Early Irish Metal Work", in another small journal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Usernameunique (talk) 01:42, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the location, maybe [1]? Eddie891 Talk Work 02:18, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for that, Eddie891. I think you're right. I sent an email to a library that looks like it has a copy of the issue in question, but didn't receive a response. I've now submitted an ILL request, so hopefully that will both prove you right, and get the article. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:53, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How's this going? If you're having trouble with the ILL, I should be able to request an ILL for
OCLC 225804755 pretty easily, as my university is within the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and so is one of the libraries that has it. If you received it but it's not the right magazine, if you send me the full newspaper article that prompted your search, I can try to figure out what else it might be. Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:24, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply
]
Thanks, Sollyucko. Would you mind giving it a go? My library claims that the ILL was unsuccessful; I could try submitting it again, but perhaps you would have better luck if a copy is already within your system. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:19, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it looks like University of Minnesota, Twin Cities doesn't have that issue, but it looks like the following libraries have it:
Two of these are academic libraries in the US, so I think there's a decent chance of success. My university's ILL department is a bit busy currently, but I'll submit it in a few days and see what happens. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll send you the scan I receive, if it's successful.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:16, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've submitted an ILL request myself. It might be more complicated than I originally thought, but hopefully they can figure it out without too much difficulty... I'm just confused how issue and volume numbers correspond with months and years... Solomon Ucko (talk) 13:58, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citations from old Art and living magazines

Hello. I'm trying to determine whether there are enough sources to save Richard Whitney (artist). At present the article has no citations at all, but it does quote from Town & Country (magazine) and Fine Art Connoisseur, though without detailed citations. The subject has provided me with more useful citations, but I can't find those articles online (I can find the issue of Fine Art Connoiseur in archive.com, but not the article). I can't see a resource in

WP:LIBRARY
that looks promising. I've put all the information I have in the citations: I realise it's incomplete, and I will be asking the subject for more info (see
WP:HD#Author request deletions on my Gallery at Richard Whitney (artist)
). Anybody got access to either of these?

  • Compton, Kelly (November–December 2007). "The Human Touch". Fine Art Connoisseur. p. 56.
  • Loos, Ted (August 2001). "Looking Your Best". Town & Coountry. pp. 45–48.

For Richard Whitney (artist)

Thanks, ColinFine (talk) 19:36, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ColinFine: Email me if you want a copy of #2. All it contains about Whitney is: "Of the artists who do paint portraits frequently, there is wide agreement that the most talented include those listed below ... [in list of 12:]* Richard Whitney, Stoddard, NH". --Worldbruce (talk) 20:15, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that's really helpful. A useful source in fleshing out an article but not really
WP:Significant coverage. ColinFine (talk) 18:10, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply
]
For #1, I've put in a request for an interlibrary loan for the article in
OCLC 62778816; I'll let you know when I get any major updates on its status. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll email you it if and when I receive it. Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:37, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply
]
I have received a scan of the "The Fine Touch", but the only mention I see of Whitney is in a similar list: "As tempting as it is to highlight them, this highly selective survey bypasses the giants of the field whose work is so familiar to most readers: Among them are [...], and Richard Whitney. Having weathered the relatively lean years of the 1950s-80s, these huge talents have attained varying degrees of celebrity, inspired several generations of younger artists, and found their rightful places in museum collections. Several have been profiled in this magazine already, and others are scheduled for the months ahead." (p. 56) Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:09, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some more sources I found that might be useful beyond a trivial mention; many of them are available publicly or though the Wikipedia Library; let me know if you can't access any of them and I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure to what extent they're independent of the subject and the Wikipedia page, though... Looking for articles about "École allemande Humboldt" in newspapers in Quebec

For Alexander von Humboldt German International School Montreal

Hello! I'm trying to find any historical newspaper articles that give in-depth coverage to the school (known as "École internationale allemande Alexander von Humboldt" in French) in Montreal. This is for a relevant articles for deletion on FRwiki. I noticed Montreal Gazette had archives on

Newspapers.com
but I havent found other archives of English newspapers.

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 13:29, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec (BanQ)? They have pretty extensive archives over there. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 15:48, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply
]
Not yet. Lemme see what I can find there today. Thank you for the tip! WhisperToMe (talk) 15:51, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From my first search result I found a good primary source: an international agreement on the operations of the school. It's not the secondary sources that I had looked for, but it's compelling and would be a good further reading entry. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:57, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe, what's the progress on this request? Szmenderowiecki (talk) 15:02, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Szmenderowiecki: The good news is that the FRwiki article survived its AFD due to other sources I found in English (and one in French). It's no longer critical to find these, though it may still be nice if a French speaking Wikipedian knew of additional resources and stumbled upon this request. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:16, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well I speak some French but I'm not based in Quebec so that's about everything I can offer.
You may try to look into archives of some Montreal newspapers, look here for possible candidates. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 13:12, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here's what I find of relevance from searching Dow Jones Factiva for humboldt montreal german school; there are 413 results, so I did a lot of skimming/skipping, but I eventually got to the end of the list. Let me know if you'd like me to send you content from or provide additional information about any of this; I already have your email address in case anything is too long for me to be comfortable with posting it publicly.

Books about Le Touquet in French

For User:Szmenderowiecki/sandbox/Touquet, particularly WWII and post-war reconstruction - will be thrown directly into Le Touquet article

The first article is available through OpenEdition, but The Wikipedia Library access to it is broken, hence my request. The second and third books are very likely offline, and I don't have relevant pages, so I'd appreciate someone with ILL (buying ILL vouchers). Obviously I cannot and will not request everything, but I need some info about what was happening, how many Germans were living in that city, what they were doing there, what did they do with the women, elderly and children who remained in the resort, preparations for the Atlantic Wall as relevant to the city and the reason why Le Touquet was so densely mined even though it had little intrinsic military value. Any relevant excerpts that will reflect on this issue will be welcome. I want to make a text that's max 2 paragraphs, beginning from the internment order of enemy males under 60.

Bird name synonym

For Aldabra fody, as I am doing a major expansion of the article and I cannot figure out who the first author to use the synonym Foudia eminentissima aldabrana was; I think it was most probably Moreau, but I need confirmation (strangely, no taxonomic database I have visited has mentioned this name, but it is brought up by the IUCN and others without making it clear who used it first). If not here, Birds of the World, which I also cannot access, may have some information.

Thanks, Anonymous 06:38, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Bruce1ee, unsure why I couldn't find it there. Sadly, it does not use the name F. e. aldabrana, but it does state that the bird is most likely conspecific with a different fody. Unsure where to go from here. Anonymous 18:06, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is Ridgway as given on the article. Added a ref there for the original description. Its placement as a subspecies of eminentissima does not change the taxonomic authority. Shyamal (talk) 07:56, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Shyamal, but Ridgway described it as a full species. It was then described by later authors as a subspecies (now considered a species again), but I can't figure out who first did this. Anonymous 18:06, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@An anonymous username, not my real name, I just looked at the birds of the world entry, and it doesn't seem like it says anything about this, but I'm not sure how to interpret some of the abbreviations. I can send you a copy if you would like. Eddie891 Talk Work 15:25, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the article you linked, I don't see a mention of "eminentissima", but Figure 2 on p. 34 is captioned "Foudia beaks"; #7 is "aldabrana (Aldabra)". It cites https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/partpdf/52121 from 1894, which refers to "Foudia aldabrana".
Searching my university's EBSCOhost subscription, I found citations to Frith, C. B. (1976). "A twelve-month study of the Aldabran Fody Foudia eminentissima aldabrana". Ibis. 118: 155–178. in:
That cited article is in the Wikipedia Library: https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1474-919X.1976.tb03064.x. The oldest citation I see in there is to the article you asked for. Benson 1963 doesn't seem to mention this species, but Benson 1967 does, searched with the help of HathiTrust: it describes the species starting on p. 87; on pp. 102-103, it says that it's a subspecies; and there are some additional matches.
I know basically nothing about zoology, but I hope this helps?

IEEE paper on control data encoded in audio streams

I'm working on a project to improve Wikipedia with information about film technology, including accessibility features in film, special film technologies such as motion control and 4D film, and the preservation of the associated technical data along with the film. Some of this data is encoded inside the film's audio stream and then processed by an external decoder. This is a very specialized process for which I've had a hard time finding reliable, technical sources.

For Digital Cinema Package (and other related articles), I need additional technical sources regarding the packaging of external control data inside digital audio streams. Other examples of the work I've done so far on these topics include the D-Box & Accessibility sections of the DCP article, as well as D-Box Technologies#Movie theatres, Accessibility#Hearing impairment, Hearing loss#Management, Sign language#Technology, Brazilian Sign Language#In film, Sign-language media, Movie theater#Accessibility, and Audio description#Operation.

I have an IEEE source I've been using for these article already which is open access (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9161348), however I need an additional IEEE source which is not. I have tried several online resources, including through my local library & EBSCOhost, and I have not been able to find access for this publication. I had access to HighBeam previously, however that program was shut down. Is this paper available to Wikipedians through a library or research partner?

Thank you! —danhash (talk) 18:51, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

These standards must be available somewhere? —danhash (talk) 14:17, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Text and notes of Azeri and Persian/Iranian variants of tale type ATU 314, "Goldener"

Azeri/Azerbaijani tales

1. Abdullajeva, Szvetlana, ed. (2013). Százegy azerbajdzsáni népmese (in Hungarian). Vol. II. Translated by Sipos, Áron; Adorján, Imre; Abdullajeva, Szvetlana. Budapest: Magyar-Azerbajdzsán Baráti Társaság. pp. 169-173 (Tale A fekete ló).

For Adventures of a Boy (Azerbaijani folktale). The Hungarian language tales are translations of part of a collection made in the early-20th century by Henafi Zeynalli, and recently published as a joint work between Hungarian and Azeri scholars.

Persian/Iranian tales:

For The Wonderful Sea-Horse (Iranian folktale), which was a tale provided by Masdi Galin Hanom. I already have a translated version printed in 1950 - which I will be going over -, but the German book contains the German translation (which I suppose is a more faithful translation of her tale) and notes by Ulrich Marzolph. Tale nr. 2 is another Iranian variant of tale type 314, but a summary cannot identify which is which.

I recently noticed that my ILL request for the chapters of "Százegy azerbajdzsáni népmese" was unfortunately "Cancelled by ILL Staff" because they were "Unable to find supplier", and they didn't notify me, just silently disappeared it. (I found a way to see a list of all my cancelled requests, and there thankfully aren't any others.)
The only library listed on WorldCat for it (https://search.worldcat.org/title/1014571845) is the "Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences". I guess they don't do ILL for universities in the US?
Please let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to try for that book. If you find some way my university can get it, let me know and I'll let my library staff know.

I am not sure what you are specifically interested in, but to my mind comes the English translation of Sir Richard Burton's
1001 Nights. As a warning, it contains explicit material, so it should be handled with care. Many of the motives found in Eastern folklore, tales etc. can me found there. As a side note, was it Vladimir Propp, the Soviet folklorist, who gave numbers to various motifs encountered in European fairytales? Are you interested in any motif in particular? Three different attempts were made to identify its isbn before the request was sent, and they're on their third request to other libraries, as the first two went un-filled. Will let you know more as I hear more. Eddie891 Talk Work 23:36, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Freedom4U: I managed to find the volume and issue with full-text articles online (note: if the file downloads as .txt, you might need to rename it to .pdf to view it properly), but it seems to only show the first 10 articles, which doesn't include this one? https://ocean.kisti.re.kr/IS_mvpopo212L.do?method=list&poid=ksfc&kojic=SSMHB4&sVnc=v6n4&sFree=

Meanwhile, searching WorldCat for the article title in Korean finds doesn't find anything obviously useful...

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have access to Svenska Dagbladet from that date. I'll try poking at the website a little to see if I can get it that way, but if that doesn't work, I can request an ILL in about a week. Solomon Ucko (talk) 00:08, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any obvious way of getting it from the website. It looks like the print version only exists in European libraries, so it might be complicated to process, so I'll hold off for a few days as my university's ILL staff requested, then submit the ILL request. Solomon Ucko (talk) 14:53, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doc Taxon:
I gave the request a deadline of about a month, and it has accordingly been cancelled. Given that it doesn't seem to be in the print version, I'm not sure if there's much they can do anyways.
Based on my limited understanding from cognates and photographs, I do see some articles in the print version that seem to be about police and/or terrorism, such as:
  • "Terrormisstänkt man jagas av Säpo" (p. 8)
  • "Krigsscener under razzia" (p. 10)
  • "17 döda i räd efter gruvexplosion" (p. 20)
  • "Så blev kärlekens stad ett terrornäste" (p. 28)
Let me know if you think any of these might possibly be useful, and I'll send you them.
Additionally, I have access to various news databases, so if you let me know what you're looking for information about, I can try to help you find another source for it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:57, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed that it's in Press Reader's collection, which I have access to through my public library, so I searched for the title, and manually looked through the issue for that date (https://www.pressreader.com/sweden/svenska-dagbladet/20151119/page/1), but found nothing.
I'll try putting in a request for an interlibrary loan for the digital version with an explanatory note, but I'm not sure if it'll work.

Studies on Governance: Awdal region (1997)

For Awdal and Habr Awal
Looking for that to confirm if this edit is accurate. Looks like it's only available in the US.

On the page of the book its written as Haber-awal. You will find it on page 9 Hawkers994 (talk) 19:33, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.google.com/books/edition/Studies_on_Governance_Awdal_region/WeuSqpJeoEoC?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=Haber-awal says: "A third clan with a presence in Awdal is the Isaaq, particularly the Haber-Awal sub-clan. Though they have relatively little historical presence in the region, the Isaaq are playing a growing role in two areas of Awdal. No need to discuss this again
Where? Typed it in but not coming up.

MustafaO (talk) 20:05, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Type it on the book search bar. Type Haber-awal and you will see it. Here is the direct quote from page 9
“ A third clan with a presence in Awdal is the Isaaq, particularly the Haber-Awal sub-clan.
Though they have relatively little historical presence in the region, the Isaaq are playing a growing role in two areas of Awdal.” Hawkers994 (talk) 20:15, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Still can't find it and I typed it aswell on the search function. Besides the information you provided doesn't match the content you wrote on the article that they live there as a community. What does growing role mean, that doesn't mean they inhabit the region? Especially considering every other source contradicts it. Can you show on the source clearly that they are a community that live in the region? Growing presence and trade doesn't mean anything.

MustafaO (talk) 20:30, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

your prejudice to deny a whole community that lives in this region cannot be overlooked. As stated before on page 9 it clearly states whats on the actual Awdal article itself word for word. Hawkers994 (talk) 20:49, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to call me prejudiced, Im asking for the content that states they inhabit the region clearly and in no uncertain terms. I don't know why but when I type it in the search function nothing comes up. Do you have any other source that can back it up that is actually accessible. Anyway I'll leave it here. There is clear no benefit in this back and forth and would like to see if anyone can corroborate the source and see if it says what you've stated. Otherwise bring another clear citation.

WikiProject Queensland? By random chance alone there isn't much chance anyone's going to be from Brisbane, but it's much higher there and maybe they could go to the state library or, if they are outside Brisbane but still in Queensland, do an ILL

Not a very active WikiProject but it could help.
Newspaper Archives do not cover that article, Newspapers by Ancestry do not cover Queensland at all. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 12:29, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion--will look it up. Shankar Raman (talk) 05:21, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, a couple of Google Books results ([2], [3]) indicate that the title of the article might simply be "Erythrina resupinata", but I'm not sure.
I could try requesting an interlibrary loan through my US library in March, when they don't have as much to do, since this might be difficult for them; let me know at some point if you'd like me to attempt that then. I'd encourage you to first try asking WikiProject Queensland, as Szmenderowiecki said, or perhaps better WikiProject Australian biota, such as by putting a message on the WikiProject's talk page.

Can anyone also point me towards release info for both the US and UK for Civilization II that doesn't contain original research? Besanosaurus Article

  • Dal Sasso, C. (1993). "Un ittiosaurio di sei metri nel giacimento di Besano". Paleocronache. Novità e Informazioni Paleontologiche. Vol. 1993. pp. 69–78.

I've been working on the Besanosaurus article for a while now, and have seen this publication listed as important for this taxon in the literature (namely in Maisch, 2010); however, I have been unable to find any trace of it or its journal online beyond citations, so I unfortunately cannot give any further pointers on where a copy could be found. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could send me a copy of this, though I do recognize that it may be rather difficult to find.

Thanks, --Slate Weasel [Talk - Contribs] 16:38, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Slate Weasel, after some research, in seems that your source is not an traditional journal article, but a chapter in a 1993 book titled Paleocronache. Novità e informazioni paleontologiche. All links i've found talking about the book are paid and I ask if some of them are scams... Amirani1746 (talk) 20:04, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be correct about that Amirani1746, thanks for tracking that down. I've adjusted the citation above accordingly. So it looks like some record of the publication beyond citations does exist, though in terms of copies I agree that nothing very official-looking is obvious on the internet. --Slate Weasel [Talk - Contribs] 17:31, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Citations in [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14] indicate:
  • This is in volume 2
  • The publisher is Jaca Book or In/Out of Milano
  • The title is "Un ittiosauro di sei metri nel giacimento di Besano" ("ittiosauro" instead of "ittiosaurio")
If you'd like, I can attempt to request an interlibrary loan through my US university in March, when they're least busy. Let me know if I should.

In this case, I suspect the tale is an Iranian variant, since Mirza and Bibi are the names of the characters in other Iranian-language variants. Anna Rozenfeld was a Tajik Iranist, and in the "Preface" she might have indicated the source for the tale.

The first source is a book that discusses the development of Canadian music in the early 2000s. This chapter in particular talks about Godspeed You! Black Emperor, including the album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. While I can somewhat access it on Google Books, it does not have page numbers, and not all the pages are available. The footnotes from the book I have added to the article in question are guesswork because I do not know the exact page numbers and would like a stable copy for verification and ease.

The rest are reviews of the album taken from either the review score sidebar already in the article or the album's entry on Metacritic. I have applied on the Wikipedia Library to access Rock's Backpages, but there's no guarantee I will find them there.

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In case it helps anyone figure out if they have access, these are all on AAPG Datapages/Archives. Solomon Ucko (talk) 07:37, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've requested scans of the following via interlibrary loan, since they're in my university's off-site library:
I'll request scans of the following via interlibrary loan later:
The following might exist in print on campus, so I'll look for them myself first:
The following require will require extensive searching to find a fuller version:
Please let me know if I missed anything!
Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:35, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Sent "High-Temperature Hydrothermal Resources in the Aleutian Arc", split between two emails.
The AAPG bulletin has just an abstract for "Tholeiitic hydrothermal systems of the Aleutian volcanic arc"; let me know if you'd like me to send you it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:39, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it's about Okmok, then no; article already says that Okmok is tholeiitic. Got the high-temperatures one. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:46, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've sent you the abstract, which doesn't mention Okmok.
Meanwhile, I found a citation in https://www.siftdesk.org/article-details/Geologic-aspects-faults-landslides-and-volcanic-dikes-of-the-Nateekin-River-shallow-earthquake-swarm-of-15-June-2020-near-Makushin-Volcano-Unalaska-Island-Alaska-USA/10786, which indicates that the full text should appear on pp. 845-852 of
OCLC 35325287
, which exists in the Big Ten Academic Alliance, so I should be able to get an interlibrary loan easily. Should I request it?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 00:50, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please! JoJo Eumerus mobile (main talk) 12:51, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense! I've submitted a request; I expect to get a scan early next week, if not sooner.
Meanwhile, I've sent you a bunch of these. I think the ones that are left are "Glacial Geology of the Yukon-Tanana Upland", "The Colter Formation: Evidence for Miocene Volcanism in Jackson Hole, Teton County, Wyoming", and "Selected References for Region 1 (Alaska): Region 1", which I'll probably request soon (feel free to remind me if I forget), and front matter for two geology symposia, for which I'll wait a couple weeks due to their limited holdings.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 22:37, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've submitted requests for "Glacial Geology of the Yukon-Tanana Upland", "The Colter Formation: Evidence for Miocene Volcanism in Jackson Hole, Teton County, Wyoming", and "Selected References for Region 1 (Alaska): Region 1". I'm still waiting for "Tholeiitic hydrothermal systems of the Aleutian volcanic arc", but it appears to be in progress.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:44, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For "Volcanic Hazards on the Alaska Peninsula and in the Aleutian Islands", the abstract is publicly visible, but the author has passed away, so I think the best bet for getting anything beyond that would be to contact his colleagues, but I'm not sure how likely that is to succeed. Should I give it a try, though?
Don't think that's worth your while if it's only abstract. Got the tholeiitic one. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:29, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For "The 1931 eruption of Aniakchak Volcano, Alaska", the abstract is likewise publicly visible. There's an email address for the first author listed in the abstract, and I found one for each author in https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0377027311002204. Should I try emailing them to ask them if they have anything they can send beyond the abstract? However, I did find Nicholson's very closely related M.S. Thesis publicly available here: https://scholarworks.alaska.edu/handle/11122/6306. Is that enough?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 01:01, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko:Yes, please. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:04, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As for the remaining sources:
  • "Frontmatter, Alaska Geological Society, 2001 Geology Symposium, April 27–28, 2001" and "Frontmatter: Alaska Geological Society 2003 Geology Symposium April 25–26, 2003, Natural Sciences Building, University of Alaska Fairbanks": should I try to request ILL for these?
  • "Geothermal Resources of Circum-Pacific Region": I sent you this on February 13th
  • "High-Temperature Hydrothermal Resources in the Aleutian Arc": I sent you this split across two emails on February 12th
  • "The 1931 eruption of Aniakchak Volcano, Alaska": Just to confirm, the abstract you linked to, the first author's related MS thesis, and a later related paper by the same authors aren't enough, and you'd like me to try to email the authors to ask if they have any other materials they can send related to their conference talk?

Greetings, does someone have access to this webpage? For Tocorpuri. Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It can only be accessed at National Library computers, or at Regional libraries. Still, it cannot be downloaded there (have tried downloading other files, not this particular one). Bedivere (talk) 17:10, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, has someone access to

? I need the chapters discussing Huaynaputina For Huaynaputina

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Google Books has a preview and search results, but the search results don't have page numbers: https://www.google.com/books/edition/El_Ni%C3%B1o_histoire_et_g%C3%A9opolitique_d_une/oNLcEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&bsq=Huaynaputina, and this doesn't appear to be in HathiTrust: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/ls?q1=%22histoire+et+g%C3%A9opolitique+d%27une+bombe+climatique%22&field1=ocr&a=srchls&ft=ft&lmt=ft
Here's what I've managed to extract, filtered down to what seems most relevant; the page number I put is just the first plausible number I see if I keep advancing forwards:

— c. p. 37?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:36, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko: Does that mean that the blockquote is the only content mentioning Huaynaputina? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: According to Google Books, yes, but I'm not sure if I completely trust it. Unfortunately, the table of contents in the preview in https://www.librairie-gallimard.com/ebook/9782380944839-el-ni-o-histoire-et-geopolitique-d-une-bombe-climatique-laurent-testot-jean-michel-valantin/ shows that it probably doesn't have an index, though maybe the print edition does? I'm not sure where else to look, besides checking more random websites.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:01, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems to me like we'd have to rely on things other than Google Books and Hathi, then. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:04, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What else, though? I'm having trouble finding a table of contents for the print edition to confirm if it has an index; according to e.g. https://www.sudoc.fr/272796506, it ends in the bibliography, which makes an index unlikely. Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:37, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's available for free online: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/loi/23249250/year/1997
If you can't access it, let me know and I'll send you the articles.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:11, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These titles do not seem to exist at that URL, and searching it doesn't find them either. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 14:48, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, yeah, hmm...
It looks like (apparently both list the same holdings) exists in print at my university, so I'll look for it. It does list v. 81 (2000), but it apparently skips v. 78 (1997), which all but one of them are in...
I have access to GeoRef though my university's EBSCOhost, which indicates that these are part of the supplement, which I guess is less available... It also says that they're abstracts from the conference "American Geophysical Union 1997 fall meeting. San Francisco, CA, United States, Dec. 8-12, 1997", so I'll try requesting interlibrary loans from if I can't find them in print here.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:54, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't have a ton of time to look, but they don't seem to be included in what I have access to in print. I'll do a bit more searching, but if I can't find anything useful online, should I request ILLs for these? Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:07, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've attempted to request these from
OCLC 31671675
.
I also found that HathiTrust says that "volatiles in the most recent eruptions of Aniakchak Volcano, Alaska" appears on p. 276 of Eos v.81 no.48 2000, so I might try to look for that myself at some point.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:46, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Removed the duplicate. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Marked one as "done". Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:24, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: FYI, the abstracts of "New geologic map of Aniakchak Caldera, Alaska" and "Seismic Monitoring at Aniakchak Volcano, Alaska" should also be included in the PDF I sent you on March 6th. I'm not sure what's up with "Chemical Characteristics of the Aniakchak Caldera Ash-Flow Sheet"; I'll try to figure it out later.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 12:27, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: [16]/[17]/[18]/[19]/[20]/[21]/[22] says that "Chemical Characteristics of the Aniakchak Caldera Ash-Flow Sheet" is p. 180 in a supplement. [23] confirms that it's the fall supplement, and that it's abstract GP22A-06. Should I try requesting an ILL for a scan of it from page F180?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 14:26, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:21, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've requested it. It's Spring Break for us now, so it could take a week longer than usual.

Istoriya

Greetings, has someone access to Icelandic Volcanoes in Medieval Sagas, Chronicles, Annals and in Modern Scholarly Literature ? For Eldgjá

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

According to Google, 200 RUB is just 2.21 USD (and apparently https://ras.jes.su/history/s207987840027707-6-1-en has it for just half that), so I would be happy to even pay for it myself, but I don't feel comfortable putting my credit card information into a Russian website...
I could attempt to request an interlibrary loan, but I'm having trouble finding a good WorldCat entry to reference... Searching for journals with ISSN 2079-8784, I see , which is also digital, and held by no-one, but links to Elsevier Scopus, which only has metadata, abstract, and references. I can give it a try if you'd like, in about a month when ILL demand is at its lowest.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 03:47, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: Alright, I've attempted to request this via ILL, but I have no idea how long it might take or if it'll even work. Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:14, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like it should be available in the Bibliothèque de l’Université Laval: https://ulaval.on.worldcat.org/oclc/1131592761
It's from Université Blaise-Pascal, Clermont-Ferrand according to https://journals.openedition.org/quaternaire/3362?lang=en, https://www.academia.edu/83774815/Evaluaci%C3%B3n_del_riesgo_volc%C3%A1nico_en_el_sur_del_Per%C3%BA_situaci%C3%B3n_de_la_vigilancia_actual_y_requerimientos_de_monitoreo_en_el_futuro, and https://www.google.com/books/edition/L_%C3%A9rosion_entre_soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_climat_et_pal/80a5ZHMRcS0C?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Fluctuations+glaciaires+et+t%C3%A9phrostratigraphie+dans+les+montagnes+intertropicales%22&pg=PA182&printsec=frontcover.
I can try requesting an interlibrary loan if you'd like, but I'm in the US, so I'm not sure if it'll actually work.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:12, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please. There is not enough information on glaciation on Ampato and Coropuna otherwise. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's also rather long, so I'm hesitant to request a scan of the whole thing... Should I try contacting the author via the email address listed in https://journals.openedition.org/quaternaire/3362, or via the form at http://seblamadon-photos.com/contact/?
Alternatively, are these enough? If there are any that you can't access (check the Wikipedia Library if direct access doesn't work), let me know and I'll send you it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 09:44, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I only need this one. Granted, the problem is that most of these sources discuss the Hualca Hualca-Sabancaya-Ampato massif in general, often focusing on Hualca Hualca, and not on Ampato. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:02, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like the full-text for that one is available through the ResearchGate link I provided. Are you unable to access it, or do you not trust it to be accurate?
Meanwhile, I also found the following, mostly from searching my university's ProQuest subscription for (Sabancaya OR Ampato OR Coropuna) glaciation, but I know basically nothing about geology, so I'm not sure how useful they are:
If what you can access is insufficient, and there's any of these that you think might be relevant but you can't access in full (note: ProQuest appears to provide 24-page previews for at least some theses, at least if logged in via the Wikipedia Library), send me the links and let me know whether you can at least see the metadata. If not, I'll first send you the metadata so you can try to find it yourself. If you can't find a good way to access it, let me know and I'll send you the relevant parts.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:02, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for not getting back to this earlier, but upon re-reading, I'm afraid that I need the DEA source (at least the pages that mention Ampato). These other sources leave too much off. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here's as much bibliographic information as I can find:
  • The title is Fluctuations glaciaires et téphrostratigraphie dans les montagnes intertropicales and the subtitle is une revue et application dans les Andes du Sud du Pérou (massifs des Nevados Ampato et Coropuna) (some citations have typos, especially in the subtitle, but these seem to be the consensus)
  • The date is 1999
  • The author is S. Lamadon (probably Sébastien Lamadon)
  • It is 180 or 205 pages long
  • It's an unpublished Mémoire de DEA (basically a master's thesis) from Université Blaise-Pascal, Clermont-Ferrand
  • Monsieur J-Cl. Thouret (probably Jean‑Claude Thouret) of the Département de Géographie supervised it
Some citations: [24], [25], [26], [27]/[28], [29]
Additional sources: [30], [31]
Accordingly, here's a templated citation: Lamadon, Sébastien (1999).
HAL doesn't seem to have it. I tried to check theses.fr (e.g. https://www.theses.fr/026403102), but it doesn't seem to be working for me right now...
I thought Université Laval had it, but I didn't notice that the title is generic and what it has is from Université de Paris.
I guess I could try emailing the author if you insist, but if that doesn't work, it's up to you if you want to attempt anything else. I am happy to provide the other sources I mentioned, if you're interested.

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is that one source or two?
I can try requesting an interlibrary loan for
OCLC 35844852
(within Big Ten); let me know if I should.
HathiTrust and Google Books agree that Huaynaputina does not appear in "Il paradiso del Magnifico Regno"; HathiTrust says that "Etna" appears on pp. 1, 106, 135, 137, whereas Google Books says pp. 19, 20, 83, and seven more locations.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like it's two sources so I have split the first one off, but I don't understand why Huaynaputina doesn't appear in the second. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:54, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The front matter, including the introduction, for Per riparar l’incendio is available here: https://www.academia.edu/12495977/Per_riparar_l_incendio_Le_politiche_dell_emergenza_dal_Peru_al_Mediterraneo_Huaynaputina_1600_Vesuvio_1631_Etna_1669_Catania_2013; I've reproduced some of it below:

It looks like your request is the entire contents of 5 chapters, so there's a good chance that an ILL request will get rejected. How did you come up with that page range?
OTOH, it seems to be out of print, and the publisher seems probably defunct, so the publisher can't really argue that you should've purchased the book legitimately, since it seems like it'd be a second-hand copy anyways, so should I try requesting a scan via ILL and see what they say? Here's some information I found about the publisher: it:Domenico Sanfilippo Editore, https://www.fieg.it/chisiamo.asp?sector=imp_imp&id=059, https://web.archive.org/web/20200221170740/http://www.dseditore.it/home.htm
Here's some information the publisher had about the book: https://web.archive.org/web/20150401195435/http://www.dseditore.it/sch_per-riparar-l-incendio.htm
Solomon Ucko (talk) 22:04, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the ILL is worth trying. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to give it a try, but why those pages? Are you specifically interested in the aftermath of the 1669 eruption? FWIW, I found a citation to that page range in https://www.viella.it/download/7048/18d4a449a56d/heroes-in-dark-times.pdf. If you're working on Huaynaputina, I think pp. 24-30 might be more relevant? Should I try to request a physical copy of the book so that I can more easily find and send you anything relevant?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am interested in the aftermath and management of the 1669 eruption - I guess the issue is that 121 pages is an entire book, yes? For Huaynaputina, 24-30 might work. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:44, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Dance of Death in Late Medieval and Renaissance Europe Environmental Stress, Mortality and Social Response

Greetings, has someone access to

I need the chapters discussing Samalas and 1257 For 1257 Samalas eruption

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For me, searching Google Books (Samalas, 1257) gives me snippets but not page numbers. It looks like the last snippet is of the index, which lists only page 214 for Samalas. I don't have the page numbers, so I don't think I can request a scan, but I could request the whole book. Alternatively, I found a website that has an EPUB of the full book, but its legality is questionable, so I'm not going to link to it directly, but it's not hard to find. Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:56, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
At best, page 214 might be useful. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:54, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1978 articles from the United Kingdom

I'm requesting for the following articles:

  • Storr, Anthony (August 27, 1978). "The Professor Who Likes Gardening, Planting, and Shocking People". Sunday Times. London, England: Times Newspapers Ltd.
  • Freeman, Sue (September 1, 1978). "Danger Ahead!". The Sun. London, England.

This will be used to add a relevant citation in the C. D. Darlington article. I'm aware that the community at large actively discourages the use of The Sun (physical and digital versions) as a reference per a 2019 discussion among other related dialogues within this site; however I would like to request that particular article to compare and contrast and to use the latter article to scour for similar content (aside from the former and the biography written by Oren Solomon Harman) that isn't from deprecated or blacklisted sources.

Anyways, I've attempted to request an interlibrary loan for "Danger Ahead!" though my university. I wasn't able to find a page number, so I'm hoping they can find the article nevertheless. I'll let you know when I get any major updates on its status, or feel free to ask whenever. Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:04, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Above pieces are for improving Carl Segerståhl - the second should be quite simple, the first maybe not so much, but I'd greatly appreciate any attempts :)

Many thanks,

Number 57, are there any particular constituencies or areas you're looking for? I have access to this one, but scanning 109 pages isn't really feasible, and there's no summary section or anything like that. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:18, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Extraordinary Writ: Thanks for the response. I was hoping there would be summary tables. If there isn't, no problem, I appreciate scanning the whole thing isn't doable. Cheers, Number 57 20:26, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, unfortunately not: it really is just 109 pages of constituency-by-constituency results. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 23:33, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For #1, it looks like Stanford has issues from 1994 (https://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/2758622), so I'll try to request an interlibrary loan for the article.
Searching HathiTrust for Barbieri (ending in "i" instead of "e") for #2 gives me #134–136, #194, #481. I'm not sure if those are exactly page numbers, though... Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:32, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko I appreciate you and your help so much. And thanks for catching the spelling error. Seems likely that whatever the name of the article is in the 2nd source it starts on page 134 and goes to 137. The other pages are probably the table of content and the indices entries, but I'm obviously not sure. From what I could see in the google search that In cammino appears at the top of the page, but is likely not the article title. Can we try for those pages? SusunW (talk) 20:20, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My library's ILL website is currently not working, but I think I've put in a request for #1 already, and I'll try putting in a request for #2 once it's back up. I'll add a page of context on each side to minimize the chance of receiving sentence fragments and the like, so pp. 89-91, 133-138, 193-195, 480-482. I'll add a note to clarify what the numbers mean in case they aren't page numbers or they're split across multiple issues or whatnot. Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:52, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are the best! Thank you so much. SusunW (talk) 21:39, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sollyucko not trying to rush you, but wondering if we have an update on these? SusunW (talk) 16:17, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For #1, my ILL staff just told me that they expect to wait 16 days for a reply from the lending library; I hope that's okay with you.
For #2, it was shipped on the 23rd, then cancelled on the 24th with no reason stated, so I've emailed them to ask what happened and if there's anything I can do about it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the update. I appreciate your help. SusunW (talk) 17:09, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko Have we made any progress on this request? SusunW (talk) 19:04, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the set of libraries that have the correct issue of each is limited, and judging from the processing history, those that do might be less convenient to borrow from. I think they're working on them, though; the last log entry for each was 4 days ago, and it seems they sent a request and are waiting for a response. If this goes on for too long, I might try to contact them to figure out what's going on and see if I can help somehow. Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:46, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: Status update:
My request for Mondo e missione has been cancelled for "Multiple Articles/Chapters Requested at Once". I did some more searching and found some citations to that volume, so I'm working on searching for the article titles in HathiTrust to create a mapping between issue & page numbers and scan numbers. I'm planning to finish this cross-referencing and submit a new request for each issue tomorrow.
Meanwhile, my request for Noi donne was sent to some library via a manual (and therefore slower) process on February 12th. I guess they're either waiting for a reply or are being slow to process the reply.
Sorry that these are taking so long. Most of my ILL scan requests have been satisfied in just a few days, but I guess these sources are hard to find and get.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 05:20, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko I appreciate you! Thank you for the update. SusunW (talk) 05:45, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: You're welcome! It looks like vol. 132, no. 1 (January/gennaio 2003), p. 1 is scan #9; no. 2 (February/febbraio), p. 1 is scan #105; no. 3 (March/marzo), p. 1 is scan #201; no. 4 (April/aprile), p. 1 is scan #296; no. 5 (May/maggio) I have no citation for; and no. 6 (June-July/giugno-luglio), p. 1 is scan #489 or perhaps #490. Based on this, the matches we found are:
  • #90: no. 1, p. 82
  • #134-137: no. 2, pp. 30-33
  • #194: no. 2, p. 90
  • #481: no. 5, p. ??? (but searching HathiTrust for other keywords alongside Barbieri does not include #481, so this might not be useful anyways)
I'm accordingly planning to put in two new requests when I get a chance:
  • vol. 132, no. 1 (January/gennaio 2003), "ch. w/ p. 82"
  • vol. 132, no. 2 (February/febbraio 2003), "chs. w/ pp. 30-33, 90"
BTW, here's the spreadsheet I made to keep track of the cross-referencing: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15FmVGg48RCH6GQKQFxiQ0GYTUKtcyc7cn49gOWaGm6E

Truly, truly appreciate your help, Sollyucko. It does take a village to write WP articles. It is often especially difficult to find articles and then once found, to figure out how to access them. Your help and that of others here in the RX is unmeasurable. SusunW (talk) 17:21, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the siloing of information makes this quite difficult at times, but it's worth it as long as it usually gets put to good use. I'm thinking about an idea for a meta search engine that tells you which databases have what you're looking for, but getting it working well and getting database providers on board might be difficult, especially since it needs to balance usefulness and usability against the interests of the providers... (e.g. they might not want to share a full copy of their full database, but they might be willing to share some kind of index or provide API access.)
Meanwhile, I submitted these requests about an hour and a half ago; hopefully they won't drift around for another month before getting canceled again...

Thanks for sending the article. SusunW (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: I sent you the Mondo e missione articles, but are you no longer interested in the Noi donne article? My request for it is currently pending; the last status update I see is that my university library sent out a request on paper on February 12th. They're now either waiting for a response or being slow to process it. I can cancel my request, but I'm not sure if the lending library will be aware. Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:02, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sollyucko, thanks for asking. it came up in a discussion at Talk:Sam_Williams_(record_producer), I'm told "the Everett True book, 'Supergrass - The Illustrated Story' has a significant two-page section on Williams, including photographs of him and also of his band The Mystics." @Jpcase: How did you find these citations?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko: I found all of these through ProQuest.
Not sure why the Grand Rapids Press article isn't showing up in their archives - if it's helpful, the author is Terry Deboer, and the article was published on page 7.
As for the Chicago Sun-Times articles, "Former pop 'Idol' turns to Christian music" is by Colleen Long and was published on page 8, while "Runners-up are anything but idle ; Though they didn't win, just being on the show put some singers' fame on fast-forward" is by Karu F Daniels and was published on page 39.
You're right - "SOME ALSO-RAN SUCCESS STORIES" and "How can you keep them down on the farm ...?" are identical articles to each other, which I somehow failed to notice, and do seem to be an exact match with the second article at the bottom of the Ocala webpage - thanks for pointing that out!
"Found!" is actually part of the title for the USA Today article, so I'm still looking for that one. If you're able to track it down by any chance, let me know! Thanks for your help already! --Jpcase (talk) 20:15, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thanks, that helps.
They're not in my university's ProQuest subscription, but they are in Wikipedia's and some are in my public library's, but I can't see the full text, only an abstract and metadata. I wish I could be logged into all of those subscriptions at the same time rather than having to constantly switch between them...
FYI for any future requests you might make (and also for when you're citing sources), the more information you can specify about where to find the source, the easier it'll be for us to find and get it for you. Publisher, location, and ISSN help disambiguate publications with the same name, and ISSN in particular makes searching for it way easier, and can allow my ILL (inter-library loan) requests to get semi-automatically processed within 24 hours. Page numbers allow locating the article without checking every single page, and are often a requirement for ILL. Author names can sometimes make searching for it easier. Specifying the database you used allows others to check that database to see if they have additional access and to check for any metadata that they might find useful if you didn't already mention it. Things like subjects and summaries are usually omitted, since they take up a lot of space but provide limited value.
I've put in ILL requests for #1–4.
I got #1 (the US Today article) from the Internet Archive about half an hour after submitting it. I swear I tried to search for it there myself first, but maybe I searched for USA instead of US? Anyways, here's a link; let me know if you'd like me to send you the whole PDF I received: https://archive.org/details/sim_us-weekly_2004-04-19_479.

Searching HathiTrust for those keywords (Google Books shows that just searching for "Misti" finds random word bits too, so I searched for "el Misti" and "del Misti" instead) finds pp. 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, 42, 62, 64, 68, 70, 196, 205, 210, 251, 259, 261, 288, so I've requested an ILL for pp. "-12,61-71,195-211,250-62,287-9" of
OCLC 484337. The only mention on p. 42 is in the beginning of some kind of poem, which appears to be available for free online in various places, e.g. [33], [34], [35], [36]
, so I've reproduced the part I can see below and omitted it from the pages I requested:

Levanta ¡Oh pueblo! tu inmortal cabeza
Tan alto como el Misti alza tu frente
I que tú brazo audáz y prepotente,
Armado de fusil

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:28, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I created an account and "purchased" for $0 both https://tiendadigital.sernageomin.cl/es/geologia-basica/1541-geologia-del-complejo-volcanico-lastarria-region-de-antofagasta.html and https://tiendadigital.sernageomin.cl/en/-basic-geology/3186-geologia-de-las-areas-salar-de-aguilar-y-portezuelo-de-leon-muerto-region-de-atacama.html, and sent you the files I got.
The best I've been able to find so far for "Geología de las áreas Salar de Pajonales y Cerro Moño, regiones de Antofagasta y Atacama" (no. 153-154) is this preview: http://carpintero.bri.cl/wp_png/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/producto-126-SalarPajonales-CerroMono-2013.jpg and this old product page: https://web.archive.org/web/20210119154457/http://tienda.sernageomin.cl/TiendaVirtual2/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=2409

I also found https://catalogobiblioteca.sernageomin.cl/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?biblionumber=284043, but my librarians (at a university in the United States) told me that South American libraries generally don't even answer their ILL requests, much less fulfill them.
It looks like the series (
OCLC 1069011386) exists in a German library, Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Münster, but I'm not sure which issues they have: https://katalogplus.uni-muenster.de/permalink/49HBZ_ULM/1orud0a/alma991042682269706449. I can try requesting an ILL if you remind me in a couple of weeks, but would you or User:Doc Taxon
have better access to it?

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: In addition to various citations to "Geología de las áreas Salar de Pajonales y Cerro Moño", I also found this government declaration about it, but I'm not sure what to make of it. https://difrol.gob.cl/transparencia/docs/terceros/res/566%20SERNAGEOMIN%2019%20DICIEMBRE.pdf
I'm having trouble finding this anywhere online, so should I attempt to request an interlibrary loan for it?

Yes, please. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:24, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Geografía regional de Arequipa

Greetings, has someone access to "Palomino, Jaime Daniel Rivera. Geografía regional de Arequipa. Universidad Nacional San Cristóbal de Huamanga, 1995."? For Pichu Pichu, Chachani and Misti.

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:28, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Searching HathiTrust for the names of those articles finds pp. 3, 7–8, 11, 27–28, 30–41, 49, 63–65, 67–68, 71–72, 80, 87, 91–92, 97, 102, 104, 106, 107, 109, 112, 134–135, 144, 160, 193, 224, 226–227, 233, 270, 274, 278. I have a 30-character limit, so I guess I'll add some context and merge some of these, and then put in two separate ILL requests for pp. "-12,26-42,48-50,62-113,133-45" and "159-61,192-4,223-34,269-".
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:08, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've put in these two requests back-to-back, so hopefully that'll help them process it more easily. Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:15, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Both of my requests have "been cancelled by ILL staff for the following reason: Multiple Articles/Chapters Requested at Once. You have requested more than one article or book chapter in a single request. Due to copyright restrictions, you must submit each request individually." Should I try to request the physical book, then photograph the exact set of relevant pages myself?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:10, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Up to you. It's not an urgent request. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. I've requested the physical book. Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:38, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Two Serbian books

I have a large caché of books in pdf form, if anyone helps me with these two titles, I will return the favour.

@Sollyucko: @TheJoebro64: @Temerarius:

ShockedSkater (talk) 14:27, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first one appears to be available in full for free on Google Books and/or Google Play Books.
The second one I can request via inter-library loan if you let me know which article(s) you're going to use it for, and I'll try to figure out which page range to request a scan of.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 01:24, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first book I cannot access from here, I live in Tirana, Albania. Although some books can be accessed in the United States, not sure though. I'd be grateful if you'd help me, if you need any PDF's, drop me a line. ShockedSkater (talk) 16:14, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I am in the US; I have full access to the first but can only see search snippets for the second. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser and let me know what parts of the first one you'd be interested in, I can send you screenshots of those pages.
I do this for free with the aim of improving Wikipedia. I will not accept money (except possibly to pay for resources if necessary) nor barter. However, if anyone here asks for a resource that you have a PDF of, I'd encourage you to offer it to them.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:29, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've requested a scan of part of the second one for the purpose of improving Wikipedia.

request to access Who's Who

For Lena Townsend, the article is completely unsourced and she needs demonstration of notability (ongoing AFD)

Thanks, Jaguarnik (talk) 19:13, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaguarnik:
I can try to request an interlibrary loan for this if you'd like, but note that
WP:ABOUTSELF
into account if you do decide to use it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:25, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is interesting. The AfD closed with a decision to keep the page as it was decided that Who's Who was a reliable enough proof of notability, and I didn't know enough about Who's Who at the time to contest it, but I don't really want to re-open the AfD. I'll withdraw my request. Thank you very much though. Jaguarnik (talk) 18:04, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@

via interlibrary loan. I'm in the US, and Google Books isn't even letting me search within the book, but are you able to search it from where you are?
If needed, I guess I could request the whole book and try to look through it myself, but I don't read Slovak, and I don't know if it has a useful index or table of contents, and I'd rather not look through 211 pages, so that might be too difficult.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 05:18, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko: I know he is mentioned in there because when I searched for "Holúbek Radoslav" (in quotes) on Google Books on 6 February, that book showed up as the only result, meaning there must have been a text or metadata match. It didn't say the page number, and frustratingly now when I search for that phrase GBooks says no results. Using some context we know about the person (i.e. his time period and event), we would have to find him in the whole book, I think. --Habst (talk) 13:31, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Habst:
Got it, I figured it was probably something like that, given how finicky and inconsistent Google Books is. Should I try requesting the whole book, then? Once it arrives (probably in a number of weeks), I'll send you the front and back matter, and you can let me know where you think he'd be most likely to be mentioned, and then I'll try to look through those parts to see where specifically he is mentioned.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:16, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko, okay, that will work. Thank you for doing this by the way, it is much appreciated. --Habst (talk) 15:19, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Habst: Alright, sounds good; I've requested it, then.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:26, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BeanieFan11 and Habst: I've received this, but why are there two of you? Sending copyrighted materials to multiple people seems possibly legally unfavorable, so I'll do my best to select just one of you.
If you're still interested, contact me via Special:EmailUser so I can send you files. If you're not interested, please let me know by any method so I can be aware.
I'll give User:BeanieFan11 priority due to initiating the request, but if User:Habst wants to do it, and User:BeanieFan11 doesn't reply for some unspecified amount of time or confirms they're not interested, I'll go ahead and work with User:Habst.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:35, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko: Sending to Habst would probably be better, given that he was leading the way for the article to be kept and was the one who originally found the source. (I'm also too busy to spend much effort in looking at the source currently.) BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:40, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thanks for letting me know. I've gotten an email from Habst asking for it, so I'll work with them, then.
FYI, I didn't get a ping, since I think it needs to be on a new line to work, but I get notifications for all non-minor edits to the page, so I saw it anyways. Sorry that my signature is different from my username.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 22:16, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko, I've sent you an email, thanks. --Habst (talk) 22:13, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Steamboat Arabia

  • Lexington Weekly Express. March 14, 1856. {{cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)
  • Daily Missouri Democrat. March 18, 1856. {{cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)

These have been cited on Arabia (steamboat) because they were cited by the Arabia museum staff in the museum's own exhibit history prose. This is all I know. I can't find them on WP:LIBRARY's free subscription to newspapers.com and newspaperarchive.com. If you brilliant angels can't find them, I'll go ask the museum staff for a photo!

Thanks, — Smuckola(talk) 21:23, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't seem to have online or physical access to those specific dates of those newspapers through any source I can think of... I can try to request an interlibrary loan through my university or my public libraries, but especially without a specific page number to request a scan of, this might be difficult, so asking museum staff first might be a better bet.
FWIW, I found this related Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/arabia.steamboat.museum/photos/a.10150367946311279/10158849337656279/?type=3

Marc Dolan's Bruce Springsteen and the Promise of Rock 'n' Roll

For Nebraska (album) and Born in the U.S.A.

I'm looking for any pages that discuss the above two albums in detail (years 1981 to 1985/86). The last page I have access to is page 187 so that would be the recommended starting point.

Thanks, – zmbro (talk) (cont) 20:47, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can see search results on Internet Archive and Google Books, and my university has this in print. I should be able to do this at some point this week.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:33, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Based on search results and the index, it looks like pp. 190-211, 213-214, 218, 220-221, 229-230, 235, 240-242, 246-247, 262, 268-269, 276, 286, 290, 293, 306-307, 309, 313, 317-319, 327, 332, 347, 360-361, 364, 375-376, 383, 386-387, 389-390, 394-396, 398, 407, 411, 436-437, 470, 473, 475-476, 484 mention one or both of the albums (not including the songs, singles, or tours except by accident). I'll try to see if relevant content continues onto a preceding or succeeding page. I'll also include the front and back matter (e.g. table of contents, sources and notes, index).
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:54, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zmbro: I sent you this by email on February 22nd.
Solomon Ucko (talk) Solomon Ucko (talk) 07:04, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Sollyucko my apologies for missing this your message got buried in my emails. I also haven't been on WP as much the last few weeks as well. Looking at your images now, I'm sorry to be a burden, but would you actually be able to send all of chapter 8? I noticed there's a few missing pages that talk about the BitUSA tour and accompanying singles that would be helpful. If not I have more sources that would likely do the trick :-) Thanks again and sorry for the late reply! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 18:40, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zmbro:
Got it, no problem! It looks like the missing pages are pp. 212, 215-217, 219, 222-228, 231-234, 236; Part Three starts on p. 237. Searching the index, Google Books, and Internet Archive, it looks like all of those pages mention the title of a single or one of the words "tour", "set", or "perform", so I've photographed them and added them to the same album I sent you a link to. Let me know if I missed anything at any stage.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:09, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko Could I also get pages 188 and 189 please? I'm going through all the photos now so that should be the last request :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 21:00, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zmbro: Ok, I'll take a look and see if they have anything plausibly relevant, or else decide if being context for the succeeding pages is enough to justify sending them.
I'm currently home for Spring Break, but I should be back by March 25th. Are you okay with waiting until then, or should I try to request a scan of it via interlibrary loan / document delivery and see if that's faster?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 04:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah no problem! Those pages are some background to Nebraska which I'll be doing after Born in the U.S.A. so I'm good with waiting til you're back. No rush. :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:38, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sources about Anton Çelebi

In 12 July 2023 there was a conference ([38]) in METU, Turkey, whose Session 3 was dedicated to Anton Çelebi. 4 researchers (Mehmet Kuru, Gamze Yavuzer, Özden Mercan and Christopher Whitehead) presented something. Links give out their papers ([39]), but only 1 page each:

  • Mehmet Kuru: The Trans-Mediterranean Family of Hasan Agha and Anton Çelebi
  • Gamze Yavuzer: Who is the Lawful Heir?: Anton Çelebi’s Trans-imperial Inheritance Case between Florence and Istanbul
  • Özden Mercan: A Man of Two Worlds: Anton Çelebi’s Extraordinary Life in Livorno
  • Christopher Whitehead: The Career of Customs Officer Hasan Agha as a Financier for the Ottoman State (1646–56)

Is it possible to find the full contents of these papers? And also I'm interested in this book — Palais de Hollande in Istanbul: The Embassy and Envoys of the Netherlands Since 1612.

For the conference talks, I'm not sure there's anything published beyond the one-page abstracts for the individual talks and the session. You could try contacting the authors; you can find contact info at the following pages:

Hello, colleague. Have you been given an answer? With respect, Smpad (talk) 11:30, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smpad: Here are the key parts of the emails so far:

I'm looking for information about Anton Çelebi, and found your talk titled "Who is the Lawful Heir?: Anton Çelebi’s Trans-imperial Inheritance Case between Florence and Istanbul" that you presented at METU and Turkologentag in 2023. Beyond your abstract for that talk (https://historiansnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Gamze-Yavuzer-Anton.pdf), are you able and willing to share any materials you presented, or any additional information you know about Anton Çelebi?

— me, 5 days ago

May I ask what your work is on Anton, and what exactly do you need for your research?

— Dr. Gamze Yavuzer, yesterday

In this case, I'm asking on behalf of another user on Wikipedia, who says they're planning to use it as a source to improve the Wikipedia article about Anton Çelebi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_%C3%87elebi). Therefore, if you'd be willing to help with that, I'd appreciate any information or sources about any notable details or events that aren't yet mentioned in the article. If you're not interested in supporting this, that's fine, just please let me know.

If possible, I'd like to be able to cite a published/accessible source that directly states each fact mentioned in the article, so that future readers can verify where the information came from. As long as the sources are available somewhere that can be publicly accessed (needing to pay is okay), such as being available from a public library, a public or subscription website or database, a publisher or retailer or reseller, or any other similar location, that's enough; being formally published by a publisher isn't the only option. Sources can be written documents, audio or video recordings, or any other kind of media.

Are you able and willing to provide copies of or citations to any sources written by you or anyone else that could help with this?

— me, yesterday
I'm now waiting for a reply to this, which I expect will take a few days.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smpad: I've received the following reply:

I've checked the existing Wikipedia page on Anton Chelebi and it seems that the author of the page is already aware of the project on Anton and his brother Hasan. I worked on this project last year and now the PI of this project is working on a book on these brothers. When the book is published, there will be more information to add. For now, however, I cannot add anything more than what is already available on the project's website.

R'n'B World or Afrostar, tabloid style music magazine published by Go Publishing, New York in 1968

  • "n/a". R'n'B World. New York: Go Publishing. 1968.

For Go Publishing, I'm looking for any archive or library that may have copies of R'n'B World or Afrostar, two tabloid-style music magazines published by Go Publishing, New York in 1968. They were given out free by radio stations and record stores, but I have only been able to find a couple of copies on eBay.

I'd like to confirm their publication dates, and any notable writers, as well as hopefully be able to browse them to add their content as references to other articles too.

Thanks, Jimmyjrg (talk) 06:43, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what I've been able to find (mostly on eBay, but some issues, mostly of Go, are available as digital scans through Adam Matthew Digital, and some of the eBay listings have high-quality photos):
R 'n' B World:
Afrostar:
I also found Go: (this list is incomplete)
I also found Soul:
I also found Zoo World / Zoo News:
If the title is hard to search for, sometimes searching for staff such as the publisher or the editor works better.
I also found some stuff about the publisher company:

@Arctodus-simus The thing to do is copy the DOI number and then paste it into a website called Sci-Hub. I don't want to provide direct links because that would violate wikipedia's policies, but you can find either. 🇺🇲JayCubby✡ plz edit my user pg! Talk 18:19, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know about this site, but these articles are not in the sci-hub database. Arctodus-simus (talk) 18:24, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I got #8 (Ducrocq, 1995. The contribution of Paleogene anthracotheriid artiodactyls in the paleobiogeographical history of Southern Europe. Neues Jahrbuch fur Geologie und Palaontologie Monatshefte, no. 6, p. 355–362.).
If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll reply with it.

@Arctodus-simus:
P.S. I also got #2, and my university's off-site library has vols. 51 and 60 (1974) of
OCLC 1777405, so I've requested scans of #3 and #5; note that for #5 the year appears to be 1965, unless you'd like part II (see [48]
).
As for #4, #7, #9, #10, and #11, please see the top of the page: "Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s)."
As for #1, #6, and #12, my university doesn't have these, but I can request interlibrary loans for them if you'd like.

@Arctodus-simus: Huh, strange... I've attempted to send you an email with my email address. Did that work?

Thank you very much, I received some of the articles! I would be grateful if you could help with others. Arctodus-simus (talk) 17:51, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arctodus-simus: Alright, I've requested #1, #6, and #12. For the books (and one massive multi-volume article), please use a source such as Google Books or HathiTrust to identify specific page numbers you're interested in. Alternatively, if you let me know what to look for, I can request the whole book in print and try to find the relevant parts (I'm not sending the whole thing), but please note that English is my native language, I studied French for 3 years a few years ago, and I have no specific education in German, since this impacts my ability to find relevant parts of the book.

HMS Albion (R07) - British Carrier Aviation: The Evolution of the Ships and Their Aircraft

  • Friedman, Norman (1988). British Carrier Aviation: The Evolution of the Ships and Their Aircraft. Annapolis, Maryland: Naval Institute Press. .

For HMS Albion (R07). Ideally, the whole chapter for the Hermes/Centaur class carriers (to cross reference with my sources). If that is not possible, pages 262 and 267 would be fine.

Thanks! SpanCan (talk) 04:12, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SpanCan:
My university doesn't have this, but another public university in the same state does, so I should be able to get this easily through the consortium, whether as a scan of some pages or the full book in print.
From careful searching of Google Books, it looks like those pages are contained in chapter 12 "The Last Carriers" (pp. 245-267), so I've requested a scan of that chapter. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll send you the PDF once I receive it.
FYI, according to HathiTrust, "Hermes" is mentioned on 100 pages throughout the book, and "Centaur" is mentioned on 16 pages; you should be able to see the list of pages and how many occurences are on each page if you click on the links and then click on the search buttons.
Let me know if you'd like me to request any more scans, or to request the whole book to look through it myself.
BTW, it looks like Internet Archive has various books that cite it and might be useful themselves: https://archive.org/search?query=%22The+Evolution+of+the+Ships+and+Their+Aircraft%22+Hermes+Centaur&sin=TXT

Also, I'll check out those books on Internet Archive. The more sources, the merrier!

@Archivar-Alex:
I can try to request this by interlibrary loan, but do you have any idea what page numbers might be useful? If not, I can try to request the whole thing, but I'm not sure how successful that'll be, given the limited holdings (see
OCLC 16257906
) and possible copyright issues with scanning the whole thing. If you're not sure what the page numbers are, and I can't get the whole thing, I'll try asking for a table of contents and/or index (hopefully it has something like that), and then we can use that to figure out what page numbers to ask for.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don‘t really know if there is any content in this book relating to my topic but I think it should be at the end (April 1945…). So I unfortunately don‘t know which pages are relevant. The table of content/ index could be helpful here if it exist.
I‘m appreciate your help. Maybe you have luck to get the whole book.
Don‘t know if the copyright thing is the same as it is for some photos of the US Army Signal Corps??

Daily Worker

Hi all, if anyone can access these papers, would it be possible to look at p. 8 of the Daily Worker on Wednesday, 03 November 1937, and (sorry) an unknown page of the same publication from 6 February 1937?

The search option is here.

Their set-up seems to be that you can search and get results with no account. Then you can sign up for free and see biggish images of those results. But still too small to actually read so it's then of course that it has to become a paying subscription.Leastwise, I couldn't work out how to do it any other way.

Many thanks in advance! ——Serial Number 54129 17:36, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Maned wolf in Rotterdam Zoo

  • Süddeutsche Zeitung. 2006-09-02. p. 3. {{cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)

For Maned wolf, incomplete citation in Hunting and territoriality section.

I don't know the title, but it's in Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, was published in 2006 on September 2nd (or February 9th), it's apperantly on the 3rd page of print edition. And it should be about police visit to Rotterdam Zoo, caused by maned wolf specific scent.

I tried searching myself, but search function on SZ website is a bit lacking. SZ has two archives: one is navigable by date+category (and I don't know the category), the other is less-than-open.

Thanks, Trasheater Midir (talk) 17:55, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Trasheater Midir:  Doing...
I have access to Dow Jones Factiva through my university; searching it for that publication, that date, and "Rotterdam" finds an article titled "Ganz weit draußen (VI): Warum Haig Balian jetzt im Amsterdamer Tierpark lebt; Eine Vorliebe für echte Hyänen; Als Filmproduzent hat er erlebt, was Fressen und Gefressenwerden heißt – er ließ das Kino hinter sich, um als Zoodirektor die Tiere in Szene zu setzen" on page 3. I have access to the full text through Factiva as well; I'll send you that when I get a chance.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko, thanks for searching! While it appears that found article is unrelated (about someone filming hyenas), a bit about maned wolf may be somewhere on the same page, something like small blurb. Anyway, it's not very important citation. Trasheater Midir (talk) 19:50, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trasheater Midir: Got it, makes sense. I've emailed you the relevant paragraph; here's the full citation from what I can see on Dow Jones Factiva:
