Oronsay, Ipigott, Rosiestep, Lajmmoore, CT55555, Victuallers, Cielquiparle, SusunW, Chocmilk03, Penny Richards, Silver seren, PamD, Curbon7, MSGJ and all WIR helpers: Here's a rough draft of the to-do list. We need to decide on the 3rd event. I would prefer Health over Environment because Environment was our annual event last year. I have created skeleton pages for #302: Alphabet run S & T and #303: Gender studies. Anyone wanting to work on the actual content please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/265 and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/262
Please state your preferences or ideas for the 3rd meetup for april. Thanks. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 20:54, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- +1 for Health. Looks like a great line-up! --Rosiestep (talk) 22:00, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

- I've added the content and redlists to Health. Also, all the redlists have been updated in March for both Health and Gender, except for Mental health professional which is in the update queue.--Oronsay (talk) 20:06, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- Not sure who is following up on the "One biography a week" project. Do we need to remind everyone about it in the April invitation as it's the beginning of a new quarter? Oronsay (talk) 20:15, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have just added description and redlists for the Alphabet run: S & T for April as the end of the month is fast approaching. I would like to have included an image of Catherine Helen Spence but have no idea how to do this under the new system, which I have found tricky to navigate (I withdrew an offer to create an event page last month for this reason). Also, there is a problem with the Most frequently linked redlists and I've approached @Certes, who created the original lists, about it. At this stage, I've left mention of these lists for S & T commented out. Oronsay (talk) 20:26, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Oronsay, I couldn't quite remember how to do it either, so I opened Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/299 (Q & R) and used the top of the page as a templete. I knew I was looking for Rosa Parks. Thank you so much for doing this one :) WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Added text to Gender studies. Still awaiting a response on who is following up on the "One biography a week" project. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 01:07, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Technical side conversation up for April
MSGJ, Thank you for reviewing the pages. As of now would this be the best "example" of the beginning of a page? Changing the event number and the month? Also, did I make the three new pages (302, 303, and 304) correctly or did I miss something? I ask, because I used the instructions we drafted last month and I'd like to edit them If I misunderstood a step or two. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 15:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Looks good! If you check my edits to each page then you will see the tidying/fixing I did, but mostly it was fine — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:09, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- I did see the further tidy updates! User/creator/editor is placing most info (background color, template info, graphics) about the page in Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events which then cascades through the WiR ecosystem. I did remember to purge the cache! --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

Press
To coincide with the UN's declaration that World Press Freedom Day occurs on May 3, and in support of the newest EN-WP women-related WikiProject, WP:WikiProject Women Do News, I'm suggesting we do something like "Press Women" in May. Women journalists are included in our annual "Women Writers" event, but "Press Women" would go beyond journalists to include the photographers, the newspapers/magazines/journals created by women, their conferences, notable books about women of the press, etc. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:29, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Checklist for updates of virtual meetups
This section is purely administrative. It is not about the ongoing discussions of topics.
WiR generally has a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual events. WiR also sends out an “invitation” to its registered participants notifying them of those events. This is an effort to list tasks associated with the administrative tasks of updating and adding pages. We will be maintaining this list to assist with Quality Assurance. This is a working document and should be maintained to reflect current bast practices. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
As of March 2024 we are working with a new set of cascading templates. Because the template speak to each other the preview of the template might not be as expected. For example 302 might look like 304. Additionally some pages won't preview correctly unless the editor
The interrelated templates allow us to make changes and pages once, without updating new and past events throughout the WiR ecosystem. This will ultimately reduce mistakes, bad directs, and misinformation. The coders involved are watching these pages to ensure they work correctly. March 2024 is the first iteration. If direction are not clear it is the drafter's fault - not the coders, so please be gentle.

- Step 1 – Add each new event, by next available number, to Template:Women in Red. It will be a redlink. (topic needs to be expanded).
- Step 2 – Using the Step 1 redlink, create a new event pages. The easiest way to do this is by either referring to an event page from the current month, or copying from the previous year’s similar event (like "Black History Month" in February) , or a combination of the two.
- Step 3 – Add details of the event to Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/events (see instructions at Template:WikiProject Women in Red/doc#Technical info). These allow editors to tag the article talk pages with {{WikiProject Women in Red}}, whether it's a new or improved article. Note, editors are welcome to add multiple talkpage templates to an article talkpage if it meets the criteria, e.g. an African woman artist would qualify for templates #186 and #192.
- Step 4 – Update the template Template:Women in Red navigation to include the new events. Click on the "edit source", scroll down to "group4 = Events" and add events.
- Step 5 – Create the invite (e.g. Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Outreach/2021#March 2021) using the previous month's invite as a go-by.
- Step 6 – Invite and receive feedback from a sufficient number of WiR enthusiasts that all event pages, talkpage banner templates, and the invite are okay. Mark reviewed items with
{{ok}}
- Step 7 – Send out MassMessage notification.
- Step 8 – Update Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Events, e.g. the templates embedded in that page.
Leaving on this page until we have a few more months of events. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 21:45, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
General ideas for improving Women in Red
This section provides room for suggesting and discussing more general improvements to the project. There are no limitations here but topics could include membership, contests, collaboration, promotion and future expectations. Feel free to come forward with anything you think would make the project more effective.
One biography a week
Not many of us are able to write a new article every day but most of us should be in a position to create one biography a week. How about making this a subsection of #1day1woman, starting in January 2024? Each participant could have a separate slot in which their new biographies could be listed. There would be no need for biographies to meet specific criteria such as minimum length but all new articles should meet normal standards of acceptance. We could provide virtual awards for those who manage to continue for three months (with at least 13 articles), six months (26 articles), nine months (39 articles) and for the whole of 2024 (52 articles). Participants should of course be able to create and list more than one new biography a week if they wish but everyone should try to create at least one per week. If contributors are able to keep this up, I believe it could have a significant effect on how we progress. There should be no need to participate from the beginning of January. Participants could join whenever they want and simply calculate periods of three months from the date of their first addition. Is this workable as it is or does anyone have other suggestions?--Ipigott (talk) 10:43, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Ipigott: I really like this idea, especially the awards for different lengths of time (it's a lot easier to commit for three months and then keep going!). I'd be keen to commit to #1week1woman :) Chocmilk03 (talk) 20:57, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- This idea is really attractive to me. Doing 1 article a day is just not workable for my schedule, especially since my free time to edit is largely just on the weekends. But managing one women's biography a week seems way more doable. I wholeheartedly support this proposal. SilverserenC 21:05, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Ipigott: Just jumping in to say: I like this idea too. I haven't managed to carve out much time for article creation in a long while, and I'd really like to get back to that in 2024. One biography a week sounds doable (at least for a portion of the year!). Alanna the Brave (talk) 20:22, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Are we in touch with what events the world wants WiR to facilitate?
In a recent discussion on my talkpage with Ipigott regarding WiR events, I asked, ... I'm also curious if we aren't in touch with what events the world wants us to facilitate...
I suggested 3 quarterly campaigns for later this year: social influencers (Apr, May, June), sports (Jul, Aug, Sep), politics (Oct, Nov, Dec). There were also other salient points made in that section of my talkpage. Ian suggested that I shift the proposal regarding the 3 quarterly campaigns here. So, What do you think? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:46, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- I think these three-month opportunities could serve as an important additional attraction. Contributors will have time to become familiar with the background and will be able to write about women who are gaining significance in the modern world. Many of our younger contributors should find the topics more in line with their interests than those requiring an interest in history. While I don't often write BLPs, I look forward, for example, to writing about notable TikTokers and YouTubers. It will be interesting to see if there is wider support for this venture.--Ipigott (talk) 09:29, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
New editor retention As a general follow-up to a chat at my user talkpage with Ipigott about mentoring new contributors and ideas related to incentives to improve participation, I don't really have specifics to offer, but instead a few general perspectives to perhaps consider.
My perspective is based on how as an attorney, I became familiar with what is known as 'client-centered lawyering' (brief example overview: Client Centered Lawyering: An Avenue for Change, Aqdas Khudadad, October 12, 2022, University of Cincinnati Legal Clinic), and later in my M.Ed program, 'student-centered teaching' (there are a variety of monikers for this practice) (brief example overview: Student-Centered Learning: In Principle and in Practice (Christa Green and Christopher Harrington, July 20, 2020, Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute). Ipigott, not to put you on the spot too much, but you seem to take what could be considered an 'editor-centered mentoring' approach, and I think this is a solid foundation upon which further efforts could be developed.
There is substantial research literature available on these subjects that may be helpful to review and adapt for new editor support and retention purposes. I use the term "retention" intentionally because of its use in the education field as a metric, so this may be a helpful keyword.
On a more specific note, maybe it would be helpful for new editors to have access to reflections from editors with more experience, about what it was like to be a new editor, what they wish they knew/what was a surprise to learn, and strategies that helped for coping with challenges. For this Wikiproject, perhaps we could tailor reflections to also include a focus related to writing about women. Beccaynr (talk) 19:24, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
