The Luminoth
Hmm, the
- Thanks for the heads-up. I have to admit I'm not familiar with the Metroid Prime games. The vanished ancestors often aren't actually gone, more often being just hidden or on the verge of returning, but if the Luminoth indeed have a significant presence then they don't qualify. The Chozo, on the other hand, certainly qualify. --Kizor 15:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I see the characters now. I was editing this morning on my laptop. There was a page I edited before that actually had an error with the text so I wasn't sure. I see in on this main comp though. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 02:38, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Something new about something old. The Chinese calligraphies on the Avatar page and their fair use. I believe, and will attempt to prove, that they do indeed obey the fair use rules. Here goes (don't worry, it's not long):
- If what Fyre said was true with this: "Well, if the same characters can be produced otherwise, then it is [a breach of fair use]. One of the requierments regarding fair use images is that they be irreplaceable. If there is another way those characters can be rendered (and don't ask me, I know next to nothing about all this business with Chinese characters) then we can't use fair-use images to depict them.--Fyre2387 (talk • contribs) 23:21, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Then the images do indeed obey fair use protocol. Why? Because they cannot be duplicated in any other way. Why? Because those characters are the handwritten work of the show's staff calligrapher, Siu-Leung Lee, PhD. It is done in the cursive style/grass script of chinese calligraphy. This is her handwriting. Duplicating this would be the same as forging a signature. Handwriting is handwriting regardless of language. The images cannot be properly duplicated with unicode. It would be the same as trying to pass typed text for someone's signature. Unheard of.
- So there you have it. Proof, insofar as I can tell, that the Chinese characters used on the Avatar main page are used with full respect to fair use. Unless, of course, there is a lot more that needs to come into play that I unaware of.
- Well, that's all for now. Hopefully this gets the article that much closer to being a featured article. Sage of Ice 09:43, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...that's strange. I didn't know I had to reset the expiration date to make the page-move take in effect. Thanks for letting me know, and I have now unprotected the page. Nishkid64 17:42, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi.
You uncovered a bit of unrectified vandalism committed by Clawman41, whose contribution history speaks for itself. The fellow shows some skill at distributing tiny, malicious edits over a number of sessions, hoping, perhaps, that only the last of the series would be noticed and corrected. That appears to have been the case here. His uncaught edit had gone unnoticed for over a month before you found it. Thank you!
A request: Please consider putting this page on your watch list. It is a featured article, and popular with vandals, getting hit at least once a day. The more eyes on it, the merrier. Take care — Gosgood 12:53, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
