The 1946–47 season was Manchester City's 45th season of competitive football and 13th season in the second division of English football.[1] In addition to the Second Division, the club competed in the FA Cup. Whilst top of the league, almost 68,000 fans packed Maine Road to watch City play second placed Burnley in a Second Division title decider on the final day of the season, although some believed the attendance to be around 70,000. It is likely to be the highest ever attendance for a match outside the top flight in English history.
