Starting this staging, the World Championship will be expanded to include 32 teams, increasing from 24 teams.[1] The tournament will thus also be held biannually instead of quadrennially.[2]

Around 31 countries expressed interest to host the tournament.[3] This figure was reduced to a three final candidates; Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.[4]

On 20 March 2024,

FIVB announced that the Philippines will host the tournament.[6][7]

The qualification stage of the competition consists of four categories. The host(s) will secure the first place(s). The current world champions Italy also automatically qualifies. The top three teams from each of the latest Continental Championships also qualifies. The final slots will be allocated to the top teams who had not yet qualified as per FIVB World Ranking at the end of the national team season in the year prior to the World Championship.[8]

Notes
a France, although having placed 4th in the 2023 European Championship, has qualified, as Italy, who placed 2nd in the Championship, is the defending champion of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, so they automatically qualify. This left an extra spot for a European team, which went to the next eligible team.
