Career

After

Regius Professor of English Literature from 1968 to 1984, also holding various other administrative positions. He became Warden of Goldsmiths, University of London from 1984 to 1992 and Professor (Emeritus) from 1988 to 1992. He was Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1994 to 1997.[1]

Personal life

In 1953 he married Nancy Milroy Browning; they had two sons and a daughter.
