IMO this category is too general to have variants of unix such as AIX, Linux, XENIX, Xinu, etx. If I knew what to name the subcategory as, I would do it myself. --Snargle 02:27, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regardless of whether the category is too general, there's amissing variant here. Cromemco offered a *nixen called Chromix around 1980. It ran on Cromemco's CP/M capable machines. I almost went to work manageing such a system. 67.86.175.54 18:18, 8 July 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I too was involved with selling the Cromemco S-100 machines with Cromix installed in the 1981-1983 timeframe. We also sold the South West Technical Products (SWTPC) SS50 bus machine which was equipped with a Motorola 6809 chip running at 1 or 2 MHZ. We also had a Unix look-alike called Uniflex running on the SWTPC and our company developed a management information system called System T which ran 6 terminals under Uniflex on that machine. We had good performance on that system and it ran everything from invoicing through to purchasing including, inventory control, accounts payable, receivables, payroll and General ledger.

We are just now getting around to make the application software available under Linux over 25 years later (in 2007).

Some might feel that MS and Intel actually delayed innovation (futursoftinc.com).
